zeteta: Thanks for the comment and the +1!

Either one of those options will do the job. With Karn Liberated and Ugin, the Spirit Dragon, the main objective is to have colorless removal that doesn't involve the keyword "Destroy." Both All Is Dust and Scour from Existence both fit that criteria just fine. I chose the Planeswalkers over your choices simply because with Karn or Ugin, I have the option of doing it again.

MrAwesomeSocks: Yeah I know that the option of doing it again is really good but, unfortunetely, both karn and ugin are out of my budget. As another option maybe Legacy Weapon because it let's me do it again kinda like the planeswalkers, it's just expensive to play and to activate.

zeteta: Legacy Weapon works fine, as long as you don't mind paying the cost to activate it. One upside Legacy Weapon has though is the ability to activate it at instant speed. Just be sure to leave mana open for Scion of the Ur-Dragon activations.

Got my but kicked at league again got pounded with commander damage and couldn't get a removal spell, shouldn't of kept my opening hand I guess, I had scion out to but he had a 20/20 trample

So kinda just a personal fave, but also one of the best cheap removals black has, Dismember. 1 black w/ 2 phyrexian mana (so basically 1b w/ 4 life) for a -5/-5 on target. If you're running black, it is one of the ultimate removals for its cost. It might be a creature only killer, but for 1 mana instant its a pretty good trade off

Totally love this deck! I have one myself which is quite similar to yours and find it absolutely awesome every time I play. But let me ask you one thing: Is there a reason why you chose signets over talismans (like Talisman of Progress )? I playtested a lot and found that the talismans are more reliable because of no additional activation cost. I'm looking forward to your answer! Was curious about that since some time.

ScrOuch: Thanks for liking the deck!

The signets I find much more reliable giving different color combinations, especially if I'm flooded on one particular color. The activation cost never bothers me either. Say I'm flooded in blue/ white mana sources, I can dump my extra blue/ white mana into the signets and get the correct colors.

Unfortunately, the talismans can only provide one color at a time, and there are no enemy color talismans, further complicating mana fixing.

I'm not trying to say which one is better. If the talismans are working for you, keep rocking them! Whatever makes your Scion deck work. Good luck in all your Scion endeavors!

Hey MrAwesomeSocks, I'm super curious if you saw Spire of Industry yet? When I saw it, the first thing I thought about is how much synergy it has with this deck. It's basically another Mana Confluence, in my opinion, with all of the artifacts running around.

JerichoDarkstar: Thanks for the comment! I definitely saw this and it's going in the "Maybeboard" soon. It's definitely a great card and I was actually thinking about running it OVER Mana Confluence since Spire of Industry can still tap for mana without hurting myself. Time will tell though.

January 25, 2017 7:58 p.m.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. Spire is just such a good card all around. It would just suck to open with Spire and absolutely no artifacts. But, that could happen even if Confluence was also in.

I love your deck, by the way. I'm trying to model mine in a similar fashion. I really like the toolbox theme that Scion supports.

Well, yeah, you have a point there. I'm running one half signets and the other talismans though, to keep competetive there ;) . And thanks for your support! I'm always trying to improve.

There's still one thing I wanted to ask you. What do you think of Forbidden Orchard? Well, I know it cuts both ways, but I imagined this: You're at the table against four other players. You have Worldgorger Dragon in your graveyard and Animate Dead in your hand and are ready to destroy them all with Niv-Mizzet. The only problem is: I counted only 8 lands that provide blue OR red without hurting you when they're put onto the battlefield or when you tap them (which are of course all the dual lands + Command tower). All other lands (like the shock lands) wouldn't work cause everytime they blink they either hurt you when entering or when they become tapped (like Mana Conlfuence). Although I did realize that the ten fetches you have are indeed good tutors for the dual lands, that still just makes it 18 lands (so, only one half of your mana base) with which you are able to pull off your strongest combo. So I thought every other land that provides all 5 colours without hurting you (directly) might help. (Of course it doesn't work against decks with Purphoros or Goblin bombardment but I'd still consider it a good finisher and most of the time 1/1 dorks normally doesn't bother you at that point). Really looking forward to hear your opinion!

ScrOuch: Forbidden Orchard is fine when you're ready to end the game, but can be hindering in the early stages of the game. Remember, Animate Dead + Worldgorger Dragon is an infinite. It doesn't matter how many sources of or I have, I'll still have an endless supply of mana to pump into Niv-Mizzet, Dracogenius.

Hey Awesomesocks... Out of Curiosity, why Chaos Warp?

February 1, 2017 3:31 p.m.

dooomsdae: Thanks for the comment! And sorry for the late reply!

Chaos Warp is simply removal without destroying. I know it's a risk with the second effect of the card, but, more often than not, it's well worth it.

I see how that's a good reason. Also that it is permanent removal, so better than Path to Exile in that regard.

Socks, I really appreciate how attentive you are to this thread--you do a great job getting people acquainted. Scion is my favorite EDH deck and whenever a new set comes out I admittedly sneak a peak at what you're doing for some good ideas myself. Cheers, homie.

Long ago I saw this card when I searched for Dragons, and I wondered how well it could possibly be. Over the years and as I got better at Magic, I realized how fun a deck centered around Scion of the Ur-Dragon could be.

You, my friend, have ended my search for a well-balanced and ridiculously fun EDH deck around Scion. Thank you for making this deck and I look VERY forward to building it one day. +1

So, how does the Hermit Druid combo actually work? Clearly, it's going to mill every card in your deck when it goes off. But how does that make it quicker?

Do you have to have another card on the battlefield or in your hand to take advantage of so many cards being in the graveyard? Or is there some synergy with a specific card going to the graveyard?

JerichoDarkstar: I depends which Hermit Druid combo you want to run but the best is:

Hermit Druid mills entire deck, hitting Narcomoeba, Dread Return and Fatestitcher as well as Morselhoarder, Devoted Druid, Necrotic Ooze and Spikeshot Elder.

Unearth Fatestitcher and sac it, Narcomoeba and HD to Dread Return flashing back Necrotic Ooze.

Now Ooze has Devoted Druid's ability to untap itself by putting a -1/-1 counter on itself an Morselhoarder's ability to remove -1/-1 counters to get mana. It also has Spikeshot Elder's ability to do a bunch of damage given mana.

A better path is to Dread Return Angel of Glory's Rise, this card will then return Azami, Lady of Scrolls and Laboratory Maniac. Tap the labman win the game.

Kinpa6Ansatsu: Morselhoarder, Devoted Druid and Necrotic Ooze fit better into the overall shell of the deck as you can replace Spikeshot Elder with Niv-Mizzet, Dracogenius. The other thing is that Once you have Nooze in play, it's basically impossible for your opponent to respond. The -1/-1 counter happens as part of the cost, not the ability and Morselhoarder's ability is a mana ability, meaning your opponent can't respond to it. The Labman combo gives you one level of redundancy as you can tap both him and Azami. I know which one I would prefer.

Not to mention that outside of combo at least Devoted Druid provides ramp whereas the cards in the labman package provide next to no value outside of that one combo.

That makes good sense. Did not think about it that way.

@enpc and Kinpa6Ansatsu

Thanks! I had no idea about those combos at all. That really helps.

Ill sell my Kidneys to buy this

March 8, 2017 11:19 a.m.

enpc: Seriously, I should just pay you to make my replies for me haha!

JerichoDarkstar: Exactly as enpc says! I'm also including the Animate Dead + Worldgorger Dragon combo as back up in case something goes wrong (ex. someone exiles Necrotic Ooze). You start the combo by targeting Sun Titan with Dread Return. Sun Titan hits Animate Dead, and you know the drill from there. The added benefit is that Sun Titan comes in every time, potentially bringing back all your lands and any creatures (mana dorks maybe?) you find useful.

Kinpa6Ansatsu: I'm not planning to add the Angel of Glory's Rise + Azami, Lady of Scrolls + Laboratory Maniac due to the lack of synergy with the deck. Everything is just dead in my hand/ on field until I'm ready to end the game.

wyatt0781: While a kidney does earn you upwards of $80k, I don't recommend it. It's just cardboard after all. :D
