Marenkai: Lifelink can be useful. However, giving creatures I control Lifelink while being able to reanimate giant dragons also paints a giant target on my back (even though playing Scion of the Ur-Dragon does a fine job of that by itself haha).

Oh... you mister have a point here xD

I usually play 1v1 so this part of the strategy got out of my head xD

It still drags less attention than playing Slivers or Kaalia xP

Marenkai: Yeah, I usually play multiplayer games. I find them more fun. I almost never lose a 1v1, so multiplayer adds a bigger thrill.

It's true xP

I play Narset Control in 1v1 and Elfball Ezuri in Multiplayer so I always draw the most aggro around the table xD

illumfolly: I know, right! I can't wait for Dragons of Tarkir!

I rarely attack with more dragons that just Scion. If I had the space, he'd be in however.

March 3, 2015 3:19 p.m.

Harsh Mercy might be nice here.

canterlotguardian: Wow! I've never seen this card before. It's on my "To get" list. Thanks for the suggestion!

How does Moltensteel Dragon+ Skithiryx, the Blight Dragon combo work? You know that Scion of the Ur-Dragon can only turn into one dragon a turn. once he turns into a dragon he loses his ability to turn into other dragons.

March 8, 2015 10:20 p.m.

Emarean: Thanks for the comment! It's true that Scion loses his ability once he transforms. However, if you trigger Scion twice on the stack, Scion is forced to cycle through each transformation.

Zer0w says... #12

yes. you put Skittles on the stack 1st then Moltensteel, then let Moltensteel resolve then pump him up then let Skittles resolve then allow damage to resolve, then allow your opponent's death to resolve... and hand him a tissue.

So i guess you could do this after declared blockers before damage?

MrAwesomeSocks is your deck geared more towards 1v1?

I also have a Scion deck it is geared more towards reanimation and swarming. I would love to hear your thoughts on my deck. Any advice you or others might have would be welcome. Wait... whats my name again?

March 9, 2015 12:20 a.m.

Emarean: My deck is actually not geared for 1v1. I can handle multiple opponents at once, even if they gang up on me.

Reanimation and swarming isn't bad. That's what my Scion deck used to do. If I had to suggest any changes, it would be with your mana base. It's good to see that you have shocklands in. Try getting at least the 5 Onslaught/Khans fetches to help search out whichever color you need at the present time.

Also, I suggest trying to get the 10 pain lands to go along with the shocks. Lands that produce more than 1 color that do not come into play tapped are a must to keep up with your opponent. If you can't find room for the pain lands, I'd say drop the Temples. Scry is nice, but being able to use the land the moment it comes into play is nicer.

Newest Spoilers -- a new must include for the deck as boner inducing combo fuel:

Savage Ventmaw -- extra combat becomes infinite combat!

Also -- Sarkhan Unbroken because wow he's a pretty good walker, dragon themed, and novel

March 9, 2015 12:50 p.m.

illumfolly: I agree that both those cards should be in my deck. Now what to cut out lol. So many cards, only 100 slots.

MORE LIKE "SARKHAN BROKEN", AMIRITE???

Recommnedations on cuts:

Laboratory Maniac. Yeah, I know, "but what about when I don't have enough cards to kill everyone?" Well, Idk! I have no idea what to tell you, other than "add stuff to put things back in your library"

Keiga, the Tide Star, With no Rite of Replication, it becomes a pretty lame "gotcha" in the case that someone were to kill Scion (if I finally understand how you are building this deck) -- Otherwise, you are almost certainly going to search for Destructor Dragon

Liliana of the Veil - Lame. Just lame. Getting that sweet -2 on the amped up Rafiq of the Many player is gratifying, but otherwise its just generating card disadvantage for opponents. I say "just", but I do understand the benefit of the card. Sarkhan is much better in that slot, especially with a long and arduous mana curve. You generated card advantage for yourself -- and the ultimate ability is more related to the deck and wins you the entire game (rather than putting a single player out of the game... though I stand by my lab maniac suggestion)

Let's talk about your reanimation for a second -- have you ever tried running Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth (which should be in here regardless, unless its a big deal for you that your opponents have swamps) and Strands of Night? Sure, you sac swamps, but who cares if you also win the game.

If you can get your hands on Fist of Suns then add it! It becomes a Quicksilver Amulet with the huge costed cards

Have you considered going the direction of Conspiracy and some utility library manipulation like Ulamog, the Infinite Gyre? You could, in this case, use the same dragon card (or ulamog), as many times as you want. Annihilator is pretty sweet when you can take infinite combat turns with it. That would also solve the Lab Maniac problem (assuming a little more creativity) -- It might be a little too much, but you could pretty much kill everyone if you pull it off.

illumfolly:

I understand that Laboratory Maniac is pretty meh in this deck, so he's going out with the next set. I only really use the Curiosity + Niv-Mizzet, the Firemind combo as clean up, after knocking out the big threats anyways.

Keiga, the Tide Star is my opposite to Destructor Dragon. Destructor takes care of noncreature permanents in my way, whereas Keiga removes a creature.

Liliana of the Veil is mostly in just for fun. Similar to Jace, the Mind Sculptor is in the deck, Liliana is just a powerful card that helps out the deck. When the new Sarkhan comes out, of course I'll test him out in her slot, just to see which one (More than likely Sarkhan) I like better.

Reanimation is not that big an issue to me. There's more than one way to bring a creature back from the grave. I don't really see the point to Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth, although if I decide to try out Strands of Night.

Fist of Suns is also rather irrelevant, considering only 3 of the cards I actually "hardcast" are over 6 mana. Ugin, the Spirit Dragon, Karn Liberated, and Merciless Eviction are the only cards than it would really affect (Not counting the Dragons, of course. I try not to cast them at all).

I did try to make a Conspiracy Scion deck, once upon a time. I found the deck was trying to do too much and it became more of a combo deck than a Scion deck. It lost the feel of Dragons for me, so I shifted it back soon after. I want this deck to be the embodiment of a Dragon: Powerful and Lethal.

As always, thanks for taking the time to evaluate my deck! I'll definitely be thinking about some of the suggestions you've made.

well the good part of Fist of Suns is that you don't have to pay the commander tax for recasting scion. it is a replacement effect so it will always be .

March 9, 2015 9:03 p.m.

SomeDipshit says... #23

Actually ...

Fist of Suns is an alternative cost, whereas "commander tax" is an additional cost. So, you will end up paying The Fist of Suns cost + any additional commander cost
