Hi ya I agree with you. When Theros came out and when i saw the scry feature for most card, I knew flamespeaker adept is the card to go with. Too bad standard doesn't allow Cryptic Annelid if not it will benefit flamespeaker even more XD

This looks like fun. You should never need to worry about what you are drawing ever.

No Prognostic Sphinx ? +3 scry for you.

@littlefurball: That card would be so stupid strong with Flamespeaker Adept . xD

@Koronis: I had thought about that Sphinx, but I felt that the Prescient Chimera might work better with the many instants that are used in Izzet. I'll definitely give Prognostic Sphinx a try if the Chimera doesn't feel like it's doing the job though. Thanks for the suggestion! :)

Perhaps you should consider dropping Counterflux for something a little more defensive in this case, such as Dispel ?

Dispel costs a ton less and will cover you from the vast majority of nasty spells you'll see. Sure Counterflux itself can't be countered, but depending on the deck you're FACING that won't matter - I'd suggest you either sideboard it for another similar counter or put a similar counter (in addition to Gainsay) in the board.

Consider that in standard your main worries should be Thoughtseize, Mizzium Mortars (which is a sorcery and can wipe out a flamespeaker), bounce spells, Anger of the Gods , Ultimate Price , to name a few. So threats can come to your 'speaker directly and indirectly. Swan Song is also surprisingly useful, considering it can be used in a pinch, and the 2/2 flier shouldn't be a problem given the speed you'll gain (or not lose) in return.

That being said, Artisan of Forms should probably be dropped for something more useful - perhaps a Blistercoil Weird ?

Lastly, if you're willing to splash white via some Sacred Foundries or Hallowed Fountains (or even the R/W temple), Gods Willing can double as a pseudo-counter to creature-oriented spells, plus it gives scrying power too.

I appreciate the time you put into your comment, Krysto2012!

Dispel actually had crossed my mind, but I had forgotten to throw it in the maybeboard; however, with your input it'll probably take its place in side/mainboard. :)

Hmm.. I didn't really think about splashing a 3rd color in. I was thinking that Mizzium Skin would be a decent counter to targetting spells? I know I lose out on the scry bonus, but I don't know how effective the extra splash would be..

I finally picked up the remaining cards I was looking for, so hopefully I'll get to play test this deck out soon. Hoping to get to a FNM sometime soon. I'll keep this updated on what worked and what didn't, and I'll definitely keep your comment in consideration. Thanks again!

+1 I would consider dropping the Prescient Chimera for Spellheart Chimera and swap Dispel for Stymied Hopes . Also, Witches' Eye seems a bit slow and unnecessary with all the other scry-- maybe through in more red removal or bounce?

I have a similar build here, Scryzzet-- comments appreciated!

Yeah, I finally got to play test it a bit last night and I'm going to be making some changes. I never drew a Prescient Chimera , but if I ever were to, I'd probably be out of gas trying to kill the opponent or counter their spells. The Witches' Eye worked out okay.. It made my Omenspeaker usable on the field and it was a neat little combat trick if I had an untapped Flamespeaker Adept ; but I may take it out as well. I also really liked the Dispel ; it prevented opponents' combat tricks as I attacked them.

Also, I really enjoyed the Artisan of Forms ; there were many times where I would Titan's Strength her into their own creature, but +3/+1 stronger, thus successfully blocking. Then I could enchant her with an Aqueous Form making her a Flamespeaker Adept or even keep her as a beefy creature my opponent had.

Overall, it still needs some work; it's not going as fast as I'd like it too, but I'm hoping to get it working to its fullest potential soon. :)

maybe Mizzium Skin for hexproofing your beater? i know it doesn't buff him, but if he's about to be doombladed, buffs won't help.

Yeah, I have Mizzium Skin in the sideboard. :) I believe it's the only instant hexproof giver in blue that I can think of.. Thanks for the second on that one; it's been tough deciding what to keep from my list.

this is pretty similar to mine haha, my only thing I might change would be Divination since you are scrying you dont really need to draw many cards because you should be able to plan what you draw next (if its something you dont like, you can put it at the bottom of your deck)

maybe some flying defense? at least that is why I have Spellheart Chimera in my scry deck

also excited to see the new scry land (which will make it even better) and maybe the new izzet god,or maybe scrying planeswalker if I beg to WotC hard enough

A_Magikarp says... #12

Yeah, Divination was mostly a placeholder card; I feel like card draw is desperately needed though. So.. I'll try to find something else.

Thanks for taking a look! :)

If this deck gets to a late game, it loses. But, I did try out both of those guys and they didn't seem to work out too well, at least in my opinion.

I appreciate the suggestions, though, HawkDog. :)

That guy would definitely be great if I branched out to Modern; I'd be bouncing that guy every turn for the boost. Thanks for the suggestion dragombra. :)

add the izzet god super strong Keranos, God of Storms

Hey man, here's a similar build (I've tweaked it to include the god) that I've had some pretty good success with. People just aren't expecting it, and don't know how to react.

R/U Thassa/Scry combo (2cd place in FNM)

A_Magikarp says... #19

Monoxidechild: I'm glad to see your deck do well! And to think, that is without the new Temple from Nyx. I'm hoping that Keranos, God of Storms will be able to pull his weight if I'm able to pick one up. The 5-cost is scaring me a little though...

I was a little skeptical at first, but in conjunction with the amount of scry you can manage, and the fact that 5 land is about all you need out, starting T6 he can pump out massive damage. I'm quite looking forward to him now and really see him being competitive, though I'm sure mainly in R/W/U builds down the line haha

This is really cool. +1

Could you use the new Sigiled Starfish ?

April 17, 2014 5:16 a.m.

A_Magikarp says... #22

Yes KrosanTusker. I was thinking it would replace Omenspeaker . However, I do like that Omenspeaker is an ETB effect, where as the starfish can be activated while it remains on the field. It will definitely be decided after some play testing. :D

lol, i just finished my version of a scry deck: don't scry, its only death (help please) also replace the Omenspeaker with Sigiled Starfish since that gives you the ability more than once.

Who DOESN'T love Flamespeaker Adept ? I don't know if the deck can be competitive in Standard. In block constructed however I think it has a better chance. Here is my attempt at that very concept: Don't scry over spilt milk [Block] Please let me know how this plays in Standard, I'd love to see it do well.

You must find a way to protect the flamspeaker, or else game 2 and 3 your opponent will just pick them off as they come out.
