what about Teferi's Moat ?

I thought about it, but the 'choose a color' clause, rather than having a set color, makes it so I can't change it later on. A good alternative is Reclamation . I took it out (along with Drought ) because they're too mean to use in my play group, but I should definitely add Reclamation back in for this build. Thanks for the suggestion. :)

I really wanted to use it because it is such a maligned card, but the fact that Trait Doctoring is a sorcery is very bad. Those text-changing cards are necessary for changing words on the fly, and not only does it have to be used at sorcery speed, but the effect only lasts until end of turn. I could also not find a way to utilize the cipher ability, since the effect lasts until end of turn and can only be utilized after combat. Thank you for thinking about the deck though. :)

Its a really neat idea, but I feel it it has to be sort of janky and inconsistent. Seems like it would really need tutors to finish all these combos.

It is kind of janky, but I play in an environment with 4-5 people so I typically have some time to set up. I've also got some draw (Rhystic Study , Mystic Remora , Selvala, Explorer Returned , Drogskol Reaver , Compost ) and tutors (Supply/Demand , Enlightened Tutor , Dizzy Spell , Muddle the Mixture , Drift of Phantasms , Sterling Grove , Long-Term Plans , and Wargate ), so the deck isn't terribly hard to get online. Are there any other tutors you would recommend throwing in?

Mystical Tutor can be used to set up your deck as well as allowing for a way to spit out something like Reclamation or Light of Day after your combat.

That is a good idea, thank you. I removed Hydroblast for it; it is too situational to use effectively. I also removed Chromatic Lantern for Explosive Vegetation so I have less artifacts on the board.

Pretty funny deck concept. Not something you see every day.

+1 for the idea and a good build.

I always loved Glamerdye and I messed with similar ideas for EDH before, but this list is legitimate! I kinda want to build a list using the black for Conspiracy and Bad Moon though.

Still, I really like the majority of this list, except I think you could have like Akroma, Angel of Wrath -type creatures.

I would love to run black in this deck, but sadly it is not possible lol. I have tried a similar idea with Dromar, the Banisher and it's worked ok, though not as well as this deck. I've also tried making myriad 5-color "hack" decks but I've just not been happy with them yet. The problem arises with the color hosers all affecting the commander unless I have made it a singular color, which is not always possible. I was thinking Progenitus , Karona, False God , or Cromat for the leader. If you'd want to talk about potential ideas I'd love to.

As for Akroma, Angel of Wrath , she was in this deck at one point but wasn't doing as much work as I hoped she would (I don't really have a way to buff creatures up besides Loxodon Warhammer ). I agree about needing more beater-types, though. Chameleon Colossus is my go-to right now and its' ability recently won me a game. Are there any other creatures with protection you would recommend?

Dorotheus says... #12

Hmm.. well if giving creatures the protection is the issue. Maybe Akroma's Memorial would be better and since you're using Bant colors you can always just fetch anything artifact or enchantment related. The trade off with Memorial is that if the artifact itself is about to be destroyed or removed, its harder to protect than a creature would be.

OH! Oh man... Vigor + Arena would be pretty fantastic!

Ruffigan says... #13

I can typically give them protection with either Absolute Grace , Absolute Law , or Mother of Runes , but having protection by default is much preferred. I used to run Akroma's Memorial but I only need it for the protection and I thought 7CMC was a little high to justify it. Glory could be a good substitute but it's a big target for removal and graveyard hate.

That Arena combo is awesome, but I don't get Vigor out often enough to warrant its' inclusion (although it also works well with protection).

What do you think about Capsize ? I often have lots of mana available and/or a Seedborn Muse /Prophet of Kruphix .

Dromar39 says... #14

Capsize is crazy good. If you find yourself with a decent amount of cards in the gy theres Nantuko Blightcutter and Mystic Enforcer . Also Oversoul of Dusk and Lavinia of the Tenth (although she would be better with flicker/bounce)

Eight-and-a-Half-Tails , Worldly Tutor , Expedition Map , basically do you want this to become more competitive or stay more of a social pillow fort deck?

July 16, 2014 1:56 a.m.

Ruffigan says... #17

@Ghosthunter39: Questing Phelddagrif is great. Pumping it up makes tokens for Treva, the Renewer , Gideon, Champion of Justice , Defense of the Heart , and Auriok Champion and it can give itself protection. Gonna need to figure out something to remove.

@Dorotheus: I used to run Eight-and-a-Half-Tails but I've since narrowed down the main colors to black and red for consistency. As for Worldly Tutor and Expedition Map , both good suggestions, but I'm not sure I have a place for the Expedition Map . I could run Tolaria West instead. I can lay it down if I get it early and bounce it back to transmute. I'll need to think about what I could change for Worldly Tutor .

I'm of the mind that an EDH deck can and usually should do 3 different things.
One being the main theme, and two of the others being sub-themes.

The main theme you obviously have is Color Manipulation. Sub-theme 1 is Lifegain, and sub-theme 2 is obscured. It seems to be torn between Tokens and control. This is only something that I keep in mind for competitive. Otherwise I go for 4 Total themes with no focus, just to at least make sure the deck functions.

So I think once you figure out whether you'd have more tokens or more control, it'll flow much better.
Also is there a reason you have a sideboard, that I don't see? Sideboards in EDH are only 10 cards max either way.

July 16, 2014 4:49 a.m.

Ruffigan says... #19

No, the sideboard is currently just cards I've subbed out in my group that have since been replaced. Really they should be on the maybe board, I'll fix that. And I agree with your other statement. I'll think about what direction I want to take the deck. Thank you for thinking about my deck.

You know Painter's Servant is a banned card right?

July 16, 2014 9:01 p.m.

Ruffigan says... #22

Yeah, it's not in the deck and I mentioned it's banned in the description.

What do you think about Avacyn, Guardian Angel ?

July 17, 2014 2:40 a.m.

Dorotheus says... #24

Expensive if you don't have one haha.

July 17, 2014 3:21 a.m.

Ruffigan says... #25

She's pretty neat but she doesn't grant protection, just damage prevention, so I can't use her to swing unblocked. Her second ability is also a little expensive compared to Circle of Protection: Red et al.
