The moment I pulled Neheb, the Eternal from an Hour of Devastation booster pack, I knew it would not be too long before I built something around him. One thing I did not predict, however, was just how incredibly ruthless this deck can be. It is important we acknowledge this here and now, because we are going to be doing our best to avoid letting the table know just how explosive our plays are. That is, until it is too late.

When we have Neheb, the Eternal out on the battlefield, we will be making for each point of life our opponents lose. This mana will be available for our use during our postcombat main phase, making additional combat with postcombat main phases all the more alluring. Cards like Aggravated Assault especially can lead us to victory, being that if we do at least 5 damage, we can trigger infinite combat phases.

When putting together this deck, I wanted to focus on largely symmetrical damage effects with as little targeting as possible. Not only do we want to make political moves, but we also do not want to make enemies too early with the damage we dish out.

There will be times where we will not be able to shake the table attention and we will have either:

• Make an example out of someone in order to steer attention elsewhere.
• Sear the flesh of all -- using explosive strategy to burn the flesh of everyone.
• Scorch the earth -- employing land destruction en masse to gain (or maintain) control of the world state.

  • : Similar to the Hellion Appetite combo, this one makes good use of Coalhauler Swine and Fortune Thief . That said, with Fortune Thief on the battlefield, if we target Coalhauler Swine with Comet Storm, with assistance from Dictate of the Twin Gods, we can kick double damage to Coalhauler Swine , only for it to be doubled once more when Dictate of the Twin Gods is triggered for the second time, sending that damage to all players. Courtesy of the ever-faithful Fortune Thief , our life total cannot be reduced to less than 1.

Even if opponents have no creatures in play, Coalhauler Swine ensures each gets hit for 52 damage. All damage that would have been dealt to us during this combo is prevented by Fortune Thief , made Indestructible by Darksteel Plate.

  • : Using Pyromancer's Goggles to help pay for our casting of Lightning Bolt, we target an opponent. With Dictate of the Twin Gods on the battlefield, rather than dealing 3 damage, Lightning Bolt deals 6 to that target opponent for each copy created by Pyromancer's Goggles, at this point totaling to 12 damage. The direct damage we dealt to the target opponent will trigger Satyr Firedancer and Dictate of the Twin Gods, reflecting that 12 damage as 24 damage to target creature that opponent controls. The 24 damage we just dealt to the target creature will then trigger Repercussion, and Dictate of the Twin Gods once again. In this last reflection, the creature's controller (our original target) will be dealt 48 direct damage. The total damage done -- 60 damage to target opponent, 24 damage to a creature they control. If Neheb, the Eternal was on the battlefield when this combo went off, we will now have 60 floating mana in our postcombat main phase.
