Shu Yun leads his disciples in the way of the Two Journeys. First, teach the knowledge, then give that knowledge with grace and humility to your opponents' faces.

What the deck aims to do is use its creatures to deliver both medium size and large blows to opponents' life totals. To do this the deck possesses an array of cards that do different things to help it achieve its goal.

Evasion is key, so making creatures unable to be blocked is critical, and Mistfire Adept can give flying on the Prowess trigger. Thassa, God of the Sea, Marchesa's Smuggler, and various other spells like Shadow Rift and Distortion Strike provide this evasion.

Hitting hard is also important. Cards like Malignus do give diminishing returns when the players become closer to death, but an early strike can take anyone out of the game, or bring that pesky life gain deck down to 1/4 of it's previous life total (with Double Strike). Charmbreaker Devils, while great for recurring anything, brings with it another heavy blow. With only two spells casts, it can deal 12 damage without extra buffs. Thassa, God of the Sea, Iroas, God of Victory, and Etali, Primal Storm all also can hit for high damage.

Except 5, 6, and 7 isn't so much. Well, Shu Yun, the Silent Tempest can take care of that for you. His Prowess ability allows you to pay RR, WW or RW (or WR) to give a target creature Double Strike until the end of the turn. With a little buffing, we can get 12-16 damage a swing easily from one creature alone. Boros Charm imprinted onto Isochron Scepter will also achieve giving a creature Double Strike repeatedly.

Shu Yun himself is no slouch. If you just can't outrace the life gain deck, Shu Yun will teach them to be humble when he himself swings for commander damage (usually 10 and up with Double Strike, more with cards like Seething Anger and Haze of Rage).

To trigger Prowess, we have some spells with Buyback like Seething Anger, cheap spells like Shelter and Preordain, and some spell recursion to keep the gas on. the deck also features soul fire grandmaster? for her "buyback 2 u/r u/r" ability, which can be helpful in the late game.

Some of the spells in the deck either straight draw cards, or give us a cantrip (draw a card in addition to the effect) to replace it. Some cards let it draw when opponents get hit. Drawing cards, having reusable spells, and recurring those spells are all key to keep flowing through the forms of the lesson.

Various cards in the deck provide "nifty" effects; Hypersonic Dragon allows mass removal and recursion at instant speed, plus it is a haste, evasive flyer; Etali, Primal Storm allows us to steal spells from other decks. While not guaranteed, this can fuel Prowess and give the deck more defenses; Daxos of Meletis likewise has evasion and can potentially grant us cards to cast; and Taigam, Ojutai Master helps to protect the lesson from would-be ne'er-do-wells (and, randomly, Hypersonic Dragon's and Mirrorwing Dragon's spells resolving. Brownie points).

A number of protections also help the deck maintain it's board position, like Veilstone Amulet or our many protection or indestructible giving spells.

With these lessons in grip, turn to your opponents and let them embrace Shu Yun's teachings.
