After I committed to buying Voice of Resurgence after Theros' release with the die-hard opinion that Selesnya would grow to be the dominant deck, I really couldn't come back and make a different deck. Now, we've gotten some new toys in Born of the Gods, and I believe that it can move up from a Tier 2 deck to at least Tier 1.5
Changes that I've made moving from one set to another:
I don't want to be running creatures with less than 2 toughness unless they're really, really good. Drown in Sorrow has the horrific ability to wipe my board as it existed pre-BNG, so upping the toughness and taking out creatures like Boon Satyr for the more resilient Witchstalker seemed like a strategic choice.
With the minimal amount of multicolored spells and creatures as devotion decks become more powerful, Soldier of the Pantheon seemed less powerful. Experiment One has the ability to have higher than 2 toughness very quickly, so it seems like a better choice.
I had been sticking hard to Loxodon Smiter with the sincere belief that the benefit of being a 4/4 for 3 would outweigh the fact that it rarely ever functionally has abilities. Given how busy the 3 drop spot already was, and the push for Brimaz to be included, I finally gave in and took it out.
I'm very excited to try out Acolyte's Reward. Having a high devotion to white will be easy with the changes I've made, and the versatility, between protecting a Banisher Priest from Burn, or keeping Brimaz alive after a flashed-in Boon Satyr, makes it seem like a strong card. Unfortunately, it'll be very, very dead against the UW control deck that's extremely prevalent right now, so it'll be interesting to see whether it remains in board for long.
The last inclusion I feel like justifying is Ajani. Not only does he obviously increase my devotion, but his second ability can help me win out of nowhere with an Advent of the Wurm token. Although I've only gotten his ult once, it was an intense game-winner that can help me with a game that has turned into a topdeck battle.
I'm always looking for constructive criticism, as I've only just started playing Standard, and I'm entirely new to competitive Magic. Thanks for the feedback!
