so, after playing FnM last friday (the DTK release), I noticed a single consistent problem with this deck that can really be summed up by saying, I simply do not have enough responses in this deck. if someone decides they want to destroy a creature, I better have a Feat of Resistance in hand. if I am playing a counter deck, I just have to hope they don't have a counter in hand.
1) it is painfully susceptible to bounce and counter.
the premise of this deck being getting +1/+1 counters on a mess of creatures and letting outlast effects do the rest, I spend a lot of effort to generate those counters, and it takes little to no effort for my opponents to bounce a card back to my hand and get rid of them.
Im not entirely certain that this is something to work into my main deck, however I really want to work Dragonlord Dromoka into my sideboard for such situations. I dont think it is quite fast enough to work into play against red deck, or other burn oriented decks, I think that counter oriented decks are just slow enough to allow me to get this guy in there. Im not certain if I want to throw in 2 or 3 of this guy, on the grounds that In the case of blue control decks, I really want this guy on the field as soon as possible. that being said, I dont want to be sitting with 1 on the board, and 2 in hand that I simply cant do anything with.
2) mono-black decks just have their way with me
I found that many of the mono-black decks in my area are relying heavily on destroy (ie. Hero's Downfall, Ultimate Price) and deathtouch, and big early game creatures (ie. Master of the Feast) that I just cant seem to keep up with.
for this, I really want to throw Valorous Stance into the mix. I am however having a really hard time keeping the deck at 60 cards as I feel like I have really nailed down the creature base in the deck, and dont want to go fewer on any of my enchantments. it really doesnt make too much sense to get rid of any Feat of Resistance as they fit the flavor of the deck a little better... but I acknowledge that something has to come out, and I really do need to work these in.
in order to make this happen, I have taken out a single Avatar of the Resolute and a single forest (Im really hoping this doesnt completely fuck up my mana base).
aside from those few problems, I found that the deck does surprisingly well against rabble red (thank you ainok kin bond and Brave the Sands (<-- a highly underrated card in my opinion)), as well as most other creature based decks (ie. big green monsters, and abzan mid-range). I have found myself getting frustrated at Villainous Wealth, but my opponents typically dont manage to draw both outlast creatures and +1/+1 counter generators, so they haven't proved to be completely insurmountable, but more so a pain in my ass.
as always, I would really appreciate any input you may have on this deck.
