Good ‘ole Selesnya Closet from around 2012ish. Nothing new here. Blinking and tokens.
Everything is built around blink, or “when this enters the battlefield”, effects. Cards are moved in and out of the battlefield via Cloudshift, Restoration Angel, and Conjuror’s Closet.
Each card is then used for ramp, tutor, populate, or removal.
Some ramp, like Avacyn’s Pilgrim and Farseek, is built in. Late game is either Tristani’s token shenanigans, Thragtusk, Angel of Serenity’s board-wipe, or overrun with Armada Wurm.
Another interesting early game win against control or badly-curves decks is land destruction via many early blinks of Acidic Slime, but this is rare so I would list it as a win-con.
Side board is:
- Gideon for when you run up against other populate decks,
- An extra Closet in case your opponent’s deck is slow, or plays a lot of removal so you need to save your Resto Angels and Cloudshifts to protect your creatures.
- O-Ring and Smite for extra removal,
- Pithing Needle to shut down, well, anything,
- Rootborn for board-wipes, and
- Rest In Peace mainly for when the Aristocrats make an appearance.
When playing, remember to keep track of your life total as Trostani mixed with Resto Angel and Thragtusk can get confusing quick. Also don’t forget to populate the 3/3 Beast token before it dies. Also flash and blink Fiend Hunter and other removal during opponent’s combat step.
A very fun deck to play! Good luck!
