I'm thinking there are too many creatures at the moment, the Precinct Captain is going out in favor of more spells probably.

Look into Mirran Crusader and replacing Gideon with Elspeth, Knight-Errant. Both are monsters on the field. Also, if you're running G/W than Wilt-Leaf Liege may also be worth some consideration.

Thanks for the advice Callmegkill. I actually took out two Mirran Crusaders because of the bad synergy with Rancor and Dromoka's Command. I'll definitely consider Elspeth.

No problem. Knights are my favorite tribe so I love to see them thrive in modern play. Another card you could look into, and I'm not too sure about it since you have a few 4 drops, is Collected Company. It may not do too well considering the number of non-creature cards you have as well, but it may be worth it in elongated games as a recovery from board wipes. So it may be worth it in the sideboard.

How about some CoCo?

erichitchmo says... #8

Thanks for the suggestion Casey. You are not the first person to suggest CoCo, and it might indeed be a good addition - it fits the mana curve and the color base.

My only problem is I don't feel I have room for both CoCo Aether Vials in the mix, but maybe I should try switching them out and see how it fares!

Sorry for the repeat suggestion. I just love knights lol

erichitchmo says... #10

Yeah, me too :) Knights is not a tier 1 deck, but I honestly think we can do really well in a smaller environment. It's obviously not as strong a tribe as elves, merfolk or even slivers, but I feel a couple of cards could push us towards a competitive status!

You could consider these Citadel Castellan, Fiendslayer Paladin, and Mirror Entity.

Instead of Flooded Strand have you tried Temple of Plenty for a bit insight of your next turn? Running Flooded Strand only for Plains doesn't feel comfortable in my opinion. Ok, a tapped land isn't good for your Speed, but rather that, than drawing bullshit next turn eventually. Brushland if you have manaproblems, Emeria, The Sky Ruin for revival, Canopy Vista / Razorverge Thicket / Sunpetal Grove under some circumstances, Stirring Wildwood for more creatures or Wooded Bastion for manafix.

CaptSillva: Thanks for the suggestions. While I like the Castellan, I don't really know what I'd swap out for it. Mirror Entity could be a consideration, but it feels a little slow. One or two is a definite possibility. The Fiendslayer is already in my sideboard ;)

Xenkay: Thanks for the suggestions. Flooded Strand serves two purposes; thinning the deck for lands and buffing Knight of the Reliquary. The deck has had Sunpetal Grove earlier, but I prefer 4 Temple Gardens for fetching purposes. I might consider Horizon Canopy at some point as it provides some late-game value, but I'm not gonna pay its ridiculous price unless I'm sure I want it in. The tapped lands are just a little too slow for my tastes, if I would add some it would probably be one or two Emeria, The Sky Ruin.

Have you considered Sejiri Steppe as a 1-2 of? It can be tutored with Knight of the Reliquary in response to removal, or to push through damage. It enters tapped, but I think it could fit nicely here.

Hey WhisperingBlade, thanks for the suggestion. I already have a Sejiri Steppe in my sideboard, but I'm considering moving one into the sideboard along with a Cavern of Souls instead of the two Flooded Strands, although the lack-of-tempo-issue with tapped lands is still there :)

I'm not used to seeing these decks without Still-moon Cavalier, Miran Crusader and Sword of Fire/Ice/Light/Shadow/Feast/Famine. Are you sure you don't want them?

Hey veeonix, thanks for the suggestions. I've explained my reasonong for not including Mirran Crusader above (it was previously a 2-of in the deck, but it synergized poorly with Rancor, Dromoka's Command and Selesnya Charm).

I dont see how the Still-Moon Cavalier comes close to being strong enough for a FNM-level competitive deck compared to the rest of the knights, and I don't think I have seen it any lists to be honest, but feel free to provide some links to decks that run it. If I was to add additional high-cost creatures, I'd much rather include Citadel Castellan, Kinsbaile Cavalier or even Paladin en-Vec. The swords are definitely a strong consideration. If I was to change anything in that direction, I think I'd add 4 Puresteel Paladin and 2 Sword of Fire and Ice, and take out Brave the Elements, Dromoka's Command and 2x Silverblade Paladin

Well, to be fair, Miran Crusader is better than the cards that "don't syngergize with it."

As far as Still-Moon Cavalier, it is exceedingly strong. Any deck that hopes to play creature removal (except Bolt) gets blown out against Cavalier. Against Path, Terminate, Decay, Pulse, Kolaghan's Command, Go for the Throat, Dismember etc all get trumped. Also, it holds a Sword very well, especially Fire/Ice, giving it protection from all colors that have creature removal. It's evasion and pump effects are often relevant as well.

It is a bit unfair to say "show me lists" on such a fringe deck. Knights themselves, albeit powerful, are extremely rare. People underestimating them is one of the strengths of the deck. I haven't been able to find 'competitive' lists of any build of Knights, because they aren't a deck running around the Meta. However, they still have a lot of potential. I have both built and played against Knights. My build was B/W with Haakon. Green/White should be comparable in powerlevel.

Try playtesting Miran Crusader and Stillmoon Cavalier with Swords of Fire and Ice.

I built this deck IRL I must thank you for showing me the effectiveness of my favorite tribe (Although my version is running Sunpetal Groves instead of Canopy because I just cannot.) it's fun!

erichitchmo says... #20

That's cool, I'm glad you are having fun with it Casey4321! :) Yeah, I agree that Horizon Canopy is way too expensive, let's hope MM3 makes it a little more accessible!

September 16, 2016 5:52 p.m.

veeonix says... #21

Me too. I would love to get some Horizon Canopy... it's the only land of it's kind, isn't it?

September 16, 2016 5:56 p.m.

erichitchmo says... #22

Yeah, pretty much. It's from Future Sight, and is sort of a 'test card' for a cycle/mechanic that they might make in the future. So it's pretty much the only one of its kind, and since it was only printed in FS and as an even more rare BFZ expedition, the price is pretty steep.

I would definitely recommend Collected Company in place of the AEther Vials, because late game it isn't a dead drop, and early game you can just cast your creatures in about the same amount of time without needing the vial

With Windswept Heath, Horizon Canopy and Flagstones of Trokair in the deck, maybe a Crucible of Worlds to back it up?
