Maybeboard

Selvala Elves 75% - A mix of Mono Green Devotion and Selvala Shenanigans, the deck aims to get big mana and cast big spells. The win con is usually combat damage.

This deck combines both elements from more competitive versions of Selvala with classic elf-ball shenanigans and Big Green EDH decks. By eschewing the need for big creatures to kick off the Selvala combo (i.e. stuff like Lupine Prototype) in lieu of pump spells and efficient mana, we have a slower, but more resilient build of Selvala suited for tables ranging from casual to moderately competitive.
How do we win?

The classic win-condition for Selvala often involves attaining infinite mana. With infinite mana, the world is your oyster.

First, how do we get infinite mana?

  1. Selvala, Heart of the Wilds + Umbral Mantle
  2. Selvala, Heart of the Wilds + Staff of Domination
  3. Selvala, Heart of the Wilds + Sword of the Paruns

Selvala can be replaced with either Marwyn, the Nurturer, Elvish Archdruid, Karametra's Acolyte or Priest of Titania.

Specifically:

  1. Tapping for 5 Mana for Umbral Mantle and Staff of Domination
  2. Tapping for 6 Mana with Sword of the Paruns

This can be achieved through using pump spells for Selvala and Marwyn, playing out elves for Archdruid and Priest, and just playing to board for Acolyte. You can also be cheeky and use Rhonas Monument to try and chain pumps for Commander damage, but this is highly unlikely.

Of the three artifact possibilities, options 1 and 2 are the strongest. Assuming you cast Selvala by creature ramp, Umbral Mantle gives you infinite sized creatures. Staff is stronger by letting you draw your deck. This leads to some fun options:

  1. Without Staff, infinite mana lets you fetch all creatures in your deck using Duskwatch Recruiter
  2. Once you have your deck, you have infinite ETBs with Temur Sabretooth (Plan around this by using your ETB creatures, primarily Ulvenwald Hydra (fetching lands for BM if that's your thing), Regal Force (in case you don't manage to find Concordant Crossroads, but you do have access to Craterhoof Behemoth) etc.
  3. Essentially drop everything and go to town.

Alternatively, perhaps better but a tad more complicated:

  1. Generate infinite mana
  2. Draw Beast Within + Primal Command
  3. Kill off all relevant creatures, then return all non-creature permanents to the top of library.
  4. Then drop all your stuff when the coast is clear.

In the third scenario, you can generate arbitrarily large amounts of mana by abusing untap triggers:

  1. Deserted Temple + Garruk Wildspeaker for untapping Nykthos (This deck also has a Mono Green Devotion Subtheme, more on that later)
  2. Wirewood Lodge, Wirewood Symbiote, Vitalize etc for untapping creatures.

Last but not least, you have the classic Tooth and Nail casual combo of Avenger of Zendikar + Craterhoof Behemoth. This is unlikely to win you the game immediately, but hey, if it works it works.

Packages

This deck runs a number of packages to help you find a way to victory.

Mono Green Devotion This deck has a mono green devotion subtheme. This is primarily to enable Karametra's Acolyte lines of play as well as general Nytkhos abuse.

  1. Cheap green symbols: Utopia Sprawl + Wild Growth , your elves etc.
  2. Natural Order: Sometimes, you don't have Selvala. You can fetch Khalni Hydra (8 symbols).
  3. Naturally, this can be upgraded if you have a copy of Gaea's Cradle, but that's a different consideration altogether.

Draw Mono-Green has no tutors for your winconditions. Thus, you must draw:

    1. Benefactor's Draught
    1. Chord of Calling + Green Sun's Zenith or Natural Order for Regal Force
    1. Fecundity
    1. Hunter's Insight (or Hunter's Prowess if you require it)
    1. Shamanic Revelation
    1. Momentous Fall
    1. Greater Good
    1. Life's Legacy
    1. Lifecrafter's Bestiary
  1. 10.Zendikar Resurgent

Tutors

Actual tutors include:

  1. Woodland Bellower
  2. Ulvenwald Hydra
  3. Crop Rotation
  4. Tempt with Discovery

A notable omission is Worldly Tutor. In my testing it hasn't been super great because I'd rather draw than tutor for a single card, but things may change.
