i rarely find that having a sufficiently sized creature is a bottleneck. It's either having a card draw spell in hand or losing selvala.

Solid looking deck! But if I may ask, whats with the gigantic maybeboard? Are those test cards? Or is the actual deck the one that works the best for this setup?

November 14, 2017 11:15 a.m.

Omnom_Locus_of_Drivethrus The maybeboard is a list of playable cards that the creators have opted to cut, alot of those cards are played by others though so the maybe board is available for people looking for alternative options.

ThrunTheTroll628 is correct, though it's not an exhaustive list of everything we've tried.

Ah fair enough! I was just curious cause the list was rather extensive for a maybeboard, but really fun looking deck!

Suggestions on delaying a win until turn 6? So I can basically drop her and go off.

I made a few changes to my version to help with that..

Included Thousand-Year Elixir (removed Benefactor's Draught) to kick her off as soon as I drop her on turn 6

Steely Resolve in, Carpet of Flowers out (can always name 'Scout' so not everyone benefits) to protect her

Instill Energy in, Scroll Rack out (kick her off as soon as she gets in)

Lightning Greaves in, Deglamer out (this one hurts, but I can't think of anything else to remove) to again, protect Selvala, Heart of the Wilds and give her haste when she drops

Other options:

Lifeforce to deal with black removal (use is little too narrow..)

Asceticism is sweet, but kinda pricy CMC wise to get out quickly

Another option, assuming I have the cards in hand, is dropping her early, and doing the old destroy everyone's permanents with the Staff of Domination Beast Within, Somberwald Stag, Eternal Witness and Temur Sabertooth combo - then just wait until turn 6 (not very nice, but hey)

Any other thoughts?

So ive never played mono green or selvala at all but you mentioned, infinite beast within loop, how is this down? Im really intrigued because thats just awesome.

November 15, 2017 4:51 p.m.

Omnom_Locus_of_Drivethrus This comes up a lot...(LOL)
1. assemble infinite mana and draw your deck (lots of ways to do this, read the primer)
2. cast Beast Within, destroying a permanent of an opponent
3. cast Eternal Witness to return Beast Within to your hand
4. re-cast Beast Within, destroying another permanent
5. Cast Temur Sabertooth
6. Bounce Eternal Witness
7. Recast Eternal Witness & grab Beast Within
8. continue bouncing Eternal Witness to grab Beast Within, turning all their permanents into beasts
9. repeat the loop but replace Beast Within with Somberwald Stag to destroy your opponents' permanents
presumably you opponents resign due to having no permanents, if they don't, make sure you use Scroll Rack to not deck yourself

If you meant giving yourself infinite Beasts, do the same thing but you'll have to bounce Eternal Witness twice each loop to grab whatever permanent of yours you just destroyed
Honestly, I've never used this loop, I feel Concordant Crossroads or Scroll Rack + Memory Jar are better win conditions

dcoffin Turn 6 is WAY to late in a competitive meta, though it might work at a casual table, good luck

Turn 6 is what everyone in my meta has to wait for.. kill anyone sooner than turn 6 and you lose points - so we're all on common ground.

November 15, 2017 9:06 p.m.

I can see why you were go with your other wincon, but the infinite beast within is savage! I love it.

Omnom_Locus_of_Drivethrus Yes, that is the beast loop, though more often you can just drop a Concordant Crossroads with a bounce loop of Great Oak Guardian to kill people.

dcoffin I would never cut Carpet of Flowers if you have any significant number of blue players in your meta. The card is halfway between sol ring and black lotus every turn, closer towards the black lotus side. Steely Resolve and Lightning Greaves don't protect your commander as well as you think they do - since many of the loops involve untapping Selvala, Steely Resolve makes it very difficult for you to win, while Lightning Greaves actually needs to be unequipped from Selvala in order to combo, so this would actually leave her open to instant speed removal anyway. Regarding Asceticism, if you actually are required by your LGS to wait until turn 6, I would absolutely at least test Asceticism and possibly Swiftfoot Boots. You can afford the time to cast it, so you might as well.

Also, if you don't lose points for it, you can always combo off turn 3, beast within/somberwald stag everyone's stuff and then wait till turn 6 to kill the table. I'm assuming there are prizes on the line or something. However, if these are intended to be friendly games, then I would run more powerful value spells than the primer currently runs. Stuff like Multani, Maro-Sorcerer, Bane of Progress, terastadon, etc. You don't want to get blown out by people who have their defenses up, and the primer list leans on her speed.

For Turn 6 meta: Realm Seekers hype! Huge body, fish out Wirewood lodge, keep comboing.

Thanks much! Good point regarding Steely Resolve and Lightning Greaves, not sure how I forgot about my own need to target Selvala.. Bane of Progress is a SUPER fun card, same with Realm Seekers.. I'll try them both out! I did add Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger for some fun times last night - turn 4 was Weird Harvest, get Temur Sabertooth, Wirewood Symbiote and Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger - proceed to exile everything on the board.

I absolutely love this deck and primer. I put together a somewhat of a mix between the two versions, (budget and non,) and one awkward spot I've found myself in several times is having enough mana to go off or having access to every creature in my deck but not a single way to draw into a non creature spell to finish the game.I don't know how I keep finding myself in a good position but not even a single card draw spell in graveyard to e-wit loop, (I'm pretty sure it's because I rely on the Guardian loop too often.) Can you think of a creature with a cantrip ability that would be worth running? Maybe I just need to run the deck more, I've been playing with it for a few weeks in paper, and have went off on turn 4 very consistently, but have been pushed to turn 5-6 because of this 4 or 5 times now.

Your best options are probably elvish visionary (the green griselbrand) or regal force if your meta is slow.

If you have access to every creature in your deck, then you can simply flicker phyrexian dreadnought to reset the power/toughness of each creature on board, then rebuy them with ewit flickers, then flicker dreadnought to draw your deck off selvala's etb trigger.

Sylvanrush says... #17

hiya ASM - how do you mean 'reset the power/toughness of each creature on board'?

November 20, 2017 2:44 p.m.

tw0handt0uch says... #18

I think he means that you always have a draw outlet with Selvala if you keep bouncing and recasting a big creature. The problem is that if you are using the great oak / temurcat engine to generate the mana then you wont trigger Selvala after temurcat gets too big (because he grows each time off gog and cant bounce himself). So to get rid of Cat, you recast Phyrexian Dreadnaough and sac the cat to the etb trigger. This kills cat and you can bounce ewit to return Dreadnaught and recast again and again to draw rest of deck with selvala. You may need to get rid of your other big creatures first.

So is there a point to not running Hall of the Bandit Lord. I understand the land comes in tapped but is the not having to wait a turn to combo off more relevant.

As context I'm playing in a format where we are playing 1v1 MTGO ban list and we can choose 3 cards to unban from the ban list except for power. I chose Gaea's Cradle, Natural Order, and Survival of the Fittest

November 29, 2017 10:05 p.m.

asm says... #23

Mainly the etb tapped. It might still be fine. The problem is that its a pretty obvious telegraph anyway.

November 29, 2017 10:34 p.m.

SkittleOfWar2 says... #24

asm It is very telegraphed but while I have been playing this deck its basically telegraphed your trying to combo when you cast Selvala anyways. Also this way it prevents any sorcery speed interaction. I've been trying to find ways to reliably give her haste besides Concordant Crossroads and Instill Energy (Those being the best I've found so far besides Hall of the Bandit Lord).

I have thought about Swiftfoot Boots but I feel that it is just too narrow giving only Selvala haste.

November 29, 2017 11:38 p.m.

asm says... #25

There is very little sorcery speed removal that gets played in cedh.

Also Instill Energy only gives her haste to attack, but not haste to use activated abilities.
