Thank you for the wonderful deck and primer. I build and play Selvala myself, inspired by the deck.

A couple questions though

  1. Would the new Marwyn, the Nurturer from Dominaria fit into the deck?

  2. Why Deglamer over cards like Naturalize or Natural State?

  3. How about Elvish Archdruid or Marwyn instead of Yisan?

  4. How about cards like Hall of Gemstone for more stax?

Thanks in advance.

Imo Marwyn is a maybe. You already have priest of titania who can win with the same lines as titania. Some pilots have gone with slightly more conservative choices, sacrificing a bit of speed for some redundancy / midrangybgrind cards (the so-called Slowvala build); in that style Marwyn could see play.

At top tables you see a lot of top-of-deck tutors: imp seal, all the mirage tutors, lim duls vault, etc. Deglam messes these up, getting an effective 2 for 1 or better. Also messes up Doomsday piles and makes it harder for a deck like Tazri/Prossh to recover Food Chain, since they run Regrowth, Nox, Yawgwill.

The Yisan slot seems fine as a swap if you want to test M.

A bit of stax is fine (some have tried Thorn in the past), but dont mess up the ratios too much or the combos wont fire consistently

Thank you for the feedback and opinion. I understand better now. I have seen the Slowvala decklist and find it quite interesting too. How competitive is Slowvala compared to Speedvala though?

There is another card from Dominaria which seems quite interesting:

Gift of Growth

1G Instant

Kicker 2 (You may pay an additional 2 as you cast this spell.)

Untap target creature. It gets +2/+2 until end of turn. If this spell was kicked, that creature gets +4/+4 until end of turn instead."

It is only good with untapping and pumping Selvala, I don't know if it's worth running at the moment. The thing is, the other pump spells, Benefactor's Draught or even Vitalize seems like better cards. May need to test and see.

Slowvala feels about the same as the regular build, but it suits me better for playstyle preference. I'm willing to sacrifice a small amount of the greediest lines and redundant backup pieces in favor of better recovery.

I think Gift of growth is worth experimenting with, especially if you are on double ewit+skullwinder, as extra spell-based untap effects make the sabertooth+ewit+untap line more reliable to achieve, while letting you freely burn the untap effect in the earlier stages of your combo and retrieving the piece later for infinite.

I was wondering if you had changed anything the last revision was awhile ago and I was interested if we got anything new in dominaria or if some things weren't working out as well as you previously thought? thanks.

I was wondering how gift of growth would work out in the deck. I am unsure what you would cut for it but seems like it could find a place?

What happened to elvish pioneer? It is still listed as part of about half of the mana combos....

Akin to Bullfrog,

Can we get an updated primer? The infinite mana combos wither use Pioneer or Crossroads neither of which are present MD

Well start working in a clean version when we can. Id like a way to preserve a list of previous combos/cards that were used in earlier version but i do see your point. Will talk with asm when he has a break from school

tw0handt0uch Amazing! And thank you. I agree with you, you should keep what you have but elaborate on what you've been playing lately.

I'm running a budget version of the deck and find I can get stuck looking for combo pieces. How do you feel about Cream of the Crop to filter. I've yet to test it, but think it might work great for filtering the triggered draw of Selvala's. Thoughts?

I don't suppose you guys happen to have a link to the Primer somewhere else? Super interested to read up on Selvala, but TappedOut is refusing to open any of the drop down sections, again, it seems...

Of course, as I post that comment, it starts to work again. Thanks anyway team, really looking forward to getting stuck in!

LowStock

Cream is fine for budget filtering. Some early drafts of the deck had that card in it. When it works it feels great, but it takes some setup and you usually have to spend a turn laying it down before trying to win, so its not quite good enough for the budgetless list.

Welcome!

Im gather the cards to build this deck!!! I just love the idea to generate mana like crazy and cast extreme powerful creatures :)

Any update of this deck?

Whats the difference between this one and this http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/competitive-selvala-nought-storm/#c3320287

Could this big wurm be of any use? 5 for 10 power, which would be netting mana through Selvala's ability. Could also be used as a backup draw engine if everything goes wrong, swing with your fatties -> draw a bunch from him. Can also be bounced from Temur Sabertooth to draw without killing him, and keep drawing cards from your commander by casting it again.

Thoughts? Good enough? I think it would at the very least be worth testing, what could be removed to test it?

This may be a dumb question but can someone explain to me the interactions of symboyote and Ranger and how they go infinite if you can only activate their ability once every turn.
