Yea I’ve been thinking about wicked wolf. I don’t think the difference between 4 and 5 mana is super huge for this deck, could definitely go either way on this. I’m more interested in thorn mammoth because its a way more powerful effect.

Kenrith’s transformation is a flex slot (group by Custom on decklist), so if you want to run song, by all means, go for it.

So Nylea, Sharp Eyes just got spoiled. Opinions on using her as a Mana dump?

Creature spells you cast cost 1 less to cast.

2G: Reveal the top card of your library. If it's a creature card, put it into your hand. Otherwise you may put it into your graveyard.

I've been running Duskwatch Recruiter for a while to fish for things like Walking Ballista or the like but this seems miles better, especially considering the "may put into your graveyard" as well as making Phyrexian Dreadnought cost 0. Even though she is 3G to cast I think it'll be well worth it.

Ronave No, I think she’s worse than Duskwatch. The initial cost is higher, she’s slightly harder to tutor for as an infinite mana outlet, and the dig is way worse (1 card for 3 vs 3 cards for 3). The discount isn’t that good in my opinion. It’s fine but not a selling point at 4cmc.

Don't you have another infinite line with quirion ranger, phyrexian dreadnaught, selvala, and wirewood symbiote?

asm could you remind me why it is beneficial to run fetch lands in a mono-colored deck?

^Shuffle effects for sylvan library is a good enough reason for fetches on it's own imo

asm says... #7

More or less just for sylvan library at this point, but originally it was for sensei’s top as well.

akiva.garfield96 No, that loop doesn’t go infinite.

Hello, may I ask why Cloudstone Curio went out? In the update note there was no explanation for that. Did something else become better, or was it just not necessary?

March 4, 2020 7:13 a.m.

asm says... #9

Ranavolio Just not necessary. New cards got printed that are more important to the deck (Draw spells and tutors like Return of the Wildspeaker and Finale of Devastation) so Curio had to go. Back when this deck was created and green could use more gas, curio was the next best option. Curio is still an excellent combo piece, but those tend to be less important than the enablers (draw/tutor).

I think the major problem with Wicked Wolf is that it doesn't hit Linvala, Keeper of Silence which you're probably likely to see in many variations of the metapods

March 7, 2020 7:37 a.m.

asm says... #11

PapaBear97 Definitely. I think it’s perfectly fine to run though if you don’t have to deal with Linvalas in your playgroup. I would go with Somberwald Stag as a general option, but there are several other fight creatures you can consider based on the typical threats you see.

So how does one who is new to Cedh understand what is flex or not? And how to make edits. I really enjoy this primer but I have no idea what I’m doing

March 7, 2020 3:59 p.m.

Toothless1999 says... #13

I took out karametras acolyte for song of the dryad, kenriths transformation for natural state and took out a Forest for blossoming defense. And rec safe for dryad arbor. Opinions?

asm says... #14

Toothless1999 Fortunately for you, I already tagged which cards I consider flex. All you have to do is change the Grouping to Custom and it will group the cards be Core and Flex.

The swaps are fine; it just depends on what cards you care about dealing with in your meta.

I'm going really in depth in this guide and trying to formulate my own deck (awesome guide btw). I'm still confused about taking cloudstone out, isn't that a big part of some combos? Your list in infinite mana has a lot of cloudstone, so by taking it out aren't you then limiting how fast you can go infinite and win the game? The earliest you can go infinite now (based on your list) would be temur + wirewood + 6 power creature on board, which I would think is slower? Also as it's been some time now, do you think the great henge is worth the addition?

how about Nessian Boar and Nyxbloom Ancient? what do you think about them or are they too expensive?

March 17, 2020 12:38 a.m.

asm says... #17

Episodic The actual combo piece is less important than the enablers. It’s like Ad Nauseam - it just helps you assemble a combo by drawing you a ton of cards. Same with Selvala. Your enablers are a fattie + card draw/tutors. Cloudstone was originally in the list because there was a dearth of powerful card draw and tutors. But as WotC had printed more of these, they take precedent over combo pieces like cloudstone. Being an artifact, you can’t tutor for it and when you’re digging deep, staff of domination and umbral mantle serve a similar role but with less setup, so I prefer to keep those over curio. I have left curio lines in the primer in case there’s ever a reason to return to them. Plus, there are plenty of flex slots in the deck, and if you like curio, you can definitely put it in.
I’m not a fan of great henge. I just don’t think it does enough. There are plenty of such creature=draw effects and I haven’t been interested in any of them. Have you been playing it?

pitan77 Boar is not really in the realm of the type of fatties we want to play. I think Hunted Troll is already on the edge, but 5 cmc+ bodies need to do something powerful in addition to their bodies for me to want to run them (see Bane of Progress). I’ve thought about Nyxbloom Ancient, but I think it’s a bit too win-more. It is a powerful card though and a pretty nuts Natural Order target and I wouldn’t say it never makes the cut. At the moment though, I don’t have a place for it.

Any chance on updating the primer anytime soon? There are a number of lines in the primer that call out Cloudstone Curio, which isn't in the deck anymore.

asm says... #19

PlayingWithPowerMTG I’ve updated the primer relatively recently but chose not to remove the curio loops. I feel that the deck has enough flex slots to work with that people can choose to run curio if they wish, and leaving the combos there may be useful for the people who do.

There will be another update soon though with Ikoria cards.

been playing this deck for a while and Benefactor's Draught feels a little lackluster, any ideas on replacing this card with something else, perhaps Bane of Progress or better card draw like Scroll Rack or Memory Jar? thanks

Has there been any major updates with the Ikoria release?

April 26, 2020 12:37 a.m.

Just wondering what ur thoughts on Gemrazer and Ram through are as well and why they aren't included?

May 9, 2020 11:23 a.m.

asm says... #23

pitan77 I’m a fan of benefactors, but you can definitely swap it out for whatever you prefer. The deck is flexible enough. I actually do like Bane of Progress and run it in my paper list, but it’s definitely a meta choice, as it can be a bit too expensive in certain metas. As for rack and mem jar, I’m not a fan of those anymore now that we have so many new gas options since the initial build. Vivien, Monsters' Advocate and Cream of the Crop are solid gas options that I prefer to the ones you mentioned.

NG8 yes, check the updates.

huntersmith878 Not a fan of gemrazer, it’s easy to counter with removal and useless to fetch with to-battlefield tutors like green sun’s zenith. I’m not sure what Ram you’re talking about.

RivenEsq says... #24

asm he's referring to Ram Through. I'm curious as to your thoughts on it as well.

May 10, 2020 1:16 p.m.

asm says... #25

It’s a reasonable choice. I’m not a super huge fan since you can counter it with removal, but if you need the extra removal its fine.
