Selvala, Explorer Shenanigans

Commander / EDH*

Selvala is amazing commander capable of going absolutely bonkers in many ways. While my list may not be CEDH approved, it generally does well within my meta due to its resilience and redundancy. We can go wide or mill everyone out with the Umbral Mantle/Sword of the Paruns combo. We survive boardwipes by keeping our mana curve low and rebuilding quickly.

For those not familiar with playing against the deck, we can essentially win out of nowhere with explosive turns and lucky Parlays. Poor threat assessment from our opponents is to our advantage. We have a few big beaters that scare our opponents into wasting spot removal while the little guys get ignored and our combo is set up. Against opponents who know what were capable of, it often becomes a game of archenemy.

Were trying to draw or tutor our way into the combo or Tooth and Nail to go wide. Woodland Bellower, Protean Hulk, Stoneforge Mystic, Chord of Calling, Green Sun's Zenith, Growing Rites of Itlimoc  , and Congregation at Dawn find us our missing combo or utility pieces.

Selfless Spirit and Dauntless Escort also provide us protection from boardwipes as we set ourselves up for the win.

Combo:

The preferred method to win. All we need on board are Selvala, 2 elves + Priest of Titania, Wirewood Channeler, or Elvish Mystic and Umbral Mantle or Sword of the Paruns. From there we generate infinite mana, which then allows Selvala to parley an infinite number of times, milling out our opponents.

We can generally explode into this combo in a single turn. The only thing that can stop us is any instant speed interaction. We protect our combo pieces with Dragonlord Dromoka and Grand Abolisher to keep our opponents from casting spells on our turn.

If weve somehow already drawn more cards and will deck ourselves before our opponents, we draw out most of the deck, play everything we can, casting Craterhoof Behemoth to give our creatures trample and Mirror Entity to pump for lethal amounts of damage. Nylea also provides us with a substitute trample enabler with Mirror Entity in play.

Go wide:

A well timed Tooth and Nail is a game ender with Craterhoof Behemoth and Avenger of Zendikar. Concordant Crossroads is the haste enabler we need to put our plant tokens to immediate use, but generally the buff provided by Craterhoofs ETB is enough to get through.

Shaman of the Forgotten Ways Formidable ability also lowers the bar for our go-wide strategy and may often end up removing an opponent

Genesis Wave is also an all-star here, letting us dump all the extra mana that were capable of generating into a huge boardstate swing.

As most of our removal and utility comes from the ETB triggers or activated abilities of our creatures, we are vulnerable to Torpor Orb or other similar stax style effects.

Spot removal is troublesome, but we have ways to put our graveyard back into the library if needed. Exile effects can really set us back, which is why our deck runs so much redundancy.

Card draw is also a problem. The success of our deck hinges on the ability to dig for our answers. Selvala is our card draw engine. Sylvan Library and Alhammaretts Archive let us dig deeper. Karametra helps thin the deck and make our draws gas.
