Maybeboard

This focused deck is built around using Selvala, Explorer Returned to ramp early (turn 3 or 4) into 5+ drops, typically creatures with power/toughness based on cards in players' hands. Opponents hands should be nice and full due to the symmetrical card draw Selvala provides. This deck plays like a big timmy deck, windmilling splashy spells, but it hits them early and often, hardly ever running out of gas thanks to the draw engines & no hand limit effects.

A typical play is to drop something like Multani, Maro-Sorcerer or Realm Seekers followed by a mega draw spell like Rishkar's Expertise or ramp from Selvala, Heart of the Wilds to close out games with massive board swings. Concordant Crossroads and other haste effects, plus Brawn and other trample/evasion effects lets the deck close lethal in the blink of an eye.

Out:

  • Mind's Eye never really fit well in here; we can usually draw lots of cards from Selvala or other spells and our 5 slots are all way more impactful than this.
  • Seeds of Renewal comes out, because this deck plays a lot of 1v1 where this is overcosted. Why pick up two dead cards when we can draw 20 instead? What if nothing interesting is in our yard? We don't self-mill much, and when we do sometimes we're ditching cards we want to stay in the yard, like Brawn.
  • Animist's Awakening should have been a nice outlet for big mana, but it always felt awkward in hand at most game stages. Genesis Wave (in) fits the game plan more effectively.
  • Quest for Renewal might fit back in at some point, but Seedborn Muse and all our ways to fetch it has filled the role nicely.
  • One Forest out in favor of Sungrass Prairie.
