FroggyTroller the advantage of shared over congregation is that it puts the cards into your hand especially if you don’t have Selvala in play or a way to draw into your deck at the time. Congregation is def a good card also but it doesn’t let you just “go off” like shared summons does where you get the cards and play them out immediately

shadowmage I completely agree that Shared Summons is better than Congregation at Dawn when Selvala isn't in play, however, there aren't many scenarios where I would rather tutor than recast Selvala. Also, I've found that Congregation at Dawn often is enough to "go off," as the Mirror Entity + Wirewood Symbiote combo is really easy to assemble.

FroggyTroller just wanted to rescind my original thoughts on Cloudstone Curio in the deck. I did put it back in and focused on getting it out for a few games and it was a bomb every time. Not exactly sure how/why the value didn't seem to be there before but in a few games it's been a monster.

Also, just wanted to comment again on Penance . I know it's a bit convoluted, but if you specifically have Selvala, Umbral Mantle , and Penance on the battlefield AND you have mana in the bank or a way to make sure you're at least netting 3 with each Selvala tap, you will never pass priority to your opponents and you will make them draw themselves to death. Selvala's ability is a mana ability and can not be responded to by opponents by rule. Umbral Mantle's untap is part of the cost of the ability, as is Penance's activation cost of putting a hand on top of your library.

Tap Selvala for mana and cards, hold priority. Activate Mantle to untap Selvala, hold priority. Activate Penance to put a card back on top, hold priority, repeat until everyone has drawn their library. If you are certain you have more cards than everyone else and you're not depending on not flipping a land off your own deck, you don't need Penance anymore.

Good to see other Selvala players out there still keeping up with the deck.

What do you guys think of Faeburrow Elder from the new set? Thinking about giving it a tryout.

Good to know that you have found success with Cloudstone Curio ; I don't actually own one in paper, so I've never actually played it in a real game.

I understand how the Selvala + Umbral Mantle interaction works, and how Penance can be incorporated into it- that isn't my problem with the card. The problem is that Selvala + Umbral Mantle is almost always game-winning anyway, so Penance is a dead card in pretty much all scenarios. In addition, the only tutor for it is Enlightened Tutor , which already has targets that make Selvala + Umbral Mantle more consistent ( Smothering Tithe or Leyline of Abundance ), except those other options are relevant in other contexts.

Switching gears, I don't think Faeburrow Elder is playable in this deck. It's just a worse Bloom Tender , which I am also not running for the same reason I'm not running any of the typical 2 mana ramp spells- it doesn't ramp into Selvala, and once I have Selvala, the extra mana it does provide isn't relevant.

This is a great list! I often find myself playing my EDH decks 1 vs 1... will this deck not work 1 vs 1?... Does it rely on the Multiplayer aspect of EDH? Thanks again for the wonderful primer!

Czweig as a fellow Selvala, Explorer Returned player, with a similar deck idea i must say the deck does works amazing 1v1, although the commander herself is at her weakest 1v1 being only able to tap for 0-2 mana. Luckily the deck can work without her, i see myself turning to this decklist very often for any new ideas i want to test out with my deck.

I love this list! I have been trying to turn G/W selvala into a cEDH deck fo some time now, and I'm glad I'm not the only one. My list is similar to this one, but much more into spellslinger type effects (26 instants!).

http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/heroic-selvala-selesnya-spellslinger/?cb=1582473239

With spellslinger theme I get to make good use of some very interesting cards, especially Season of Growth, Malachite Talisman (good because it triggers on opponents green spells as well!) and best of all Bosium Strip (nice flexibility on opponent's turn as well). I was worried about flash hulk too, but I realized this deck is pretty well positioned to act against it. A selvala activation with thassa's oracle on the stack loses the player the game and I also include angel's grace, both as a way to prevent decking myself when selvala is comboing off and to kill a flash hulk player/ demonic consultation shenanigans. Instant speed untap spells also allows you to really mess with the stack and work around opponents answers to your stuff. I would love to compare notes and brew a little bit if you are interested!

Illusionist's Bracers would go infinite with Seeker of Skybreak and your commander. Would it be a possible inclusion? Possibly Steelshaper's Gift and Open the Armory to help find it or Umbral Mantle?

I worry, with this strategy, that I would be drawing a lot of cards for my opponents. By the time I find Grand Abolisher wouldn't they have a counter for it?

If GSZ or Finale is countered, what then?

After you show that you have infinite mana (and infinite Selvala activations), start activating selvala once at a time. Keep going until you hit a Grand Abolisher, Silence, or tutor for a Grand Abolisher effect. Eventually, your opponents will run out of available counter magic, and one of your protection spells will resolve. Trust me, if you get to infinite Selvala activations, you will win the game.

As for Illusionist's Bracers, going infinite with one card in the deck isn’t very consistent. All of the tutors for it could instead get Umbral Mantle, which is much better.

hello there, i really love this deck and am piloting it for months now. it's insanely fun, so thank you for that. There are two questions i have about this list.

  1. Why are you still using 31 Lands, i reduced the number to 30 (and maybe even 29 would be possible) mostly because the number of dorks that make up the deck.

  2. I still dont understand why you pick Conclave Tribunal over Generous Gift.

This deck looks awesome! I'm trying to make a Selvala deck on a budget. I saw your budget decklist, and It looks solid, but I just have one question: How much functionality does it lose with the more shaky manabase and less combos? Thanks!
