Just wanted to say that I'm a fan of the deck! +1! And also wanted your opinion on Gravebreaker Lamia, Kothophed, Soul Hoarder and any recent updates you may have? Cheers!

Thanks betomindslav!!

I do have some changes, although I haven't gotten around to updating the list yet - I'll hopefully get to that later this evening.

I haven't yet had a chance to test Gravebreaker Lamia yet, but at first glance it looks perfect for this deck - a Goblin Electromancer in black, almost. The tutor-to-the-graveyard ability is almost just icing on the cake - there aren't a lot of specific cards we're looking for in the yard (although if we've got a reanimation spell ready, nabbing Kokusho or Gray Merchant could always be fun). In fact, I think I'd most likely end up grabbing Succumb to Temptation, Dark Bargain, or Moonlight Bargain most often, since kill spells are plentiful and card draw is a little tighter.

Kothophed, Soul Hoarder I'm a little less enthusiastic about. I don't think it's bad, per se, I would just rather have Harvester of Souls, most of the time. They cost the same mana (and are pretty close in price too). Kothophed has a bigger body, but Flying is a better offensive mechanic, and Deathtouch is better on defense, which is where I find I usually want to be. More importantly, I think it's dangerous to put ourselves in a position where an opponent with a sac outlet might kill us, given how much life black already tends to pay to draw cards. So I'd say run it as a second copy of Harvester of Souls, but definitely don't drop Harvester for Kothophed.

One other card I want to talk about quickly, that (again...) I haven't had the chance to actually try out but looks sweet is the new Liliana, Waker of the Dead. Her +1 doesn't hurt us as much as it will hurt our opponents, since most of our cards can be cast from the grave anyway, and her -3 could prove to be solid removal, given that our graveyard should always be fairly well stocked. And of course, should we protect her long enough, her ult is game winning. I'm going to give her a try and see how she does!

Oh also I totally forgot to mention that Gravebreaker Lamia also has lifelink, which is certainly not WHY I'm going to run that card, but given how low my life total frequently gets as I pay life to draw cards and take damage from smaller attacks from opponents, having lifelink is definitely a valuable extra bonus for the Lamia.

Many thanks for the quick response (and the updates to your list)! My deck is mostly based on yours (talent borrows, genius steals ... heh). I have noticed that Lamia has become something of a lightning rod in my playgroup, but if it can stick around for a few turns, the mid/late game lifelink (and YES, potential card draw) are really good. Cheers again!

Lithoform Engine, that is all

September 7, 2020 8:37 p.m.

Ehhhhhh. Lithoform Engine is not as good as people seem to think it will be. It's... fine. But I'm never tapping out to play it without holding removal up in the early game. Late game, I'll need 9 or more mana to play this, cast a spell, and then copy it... when my three mana commander lets me effectively copy any number of my kill spells already, without tapping and with no extra mana investment. Also, 3 mana copy a spell is really not that great a rate. The best case scenario for Lithoform Engine (in most decks, not just this one) is really good, but the floor is really, really low, and on average I think it'll be a 4 mana rock that doesn't do enough. Much like Helm of the Host or The Immortal Sun, I think this is a card that looks good, has good text, and just shouldn't see play really at all except maybe in very specific decks that are very tuned around copying

Then how about Karn, Silver Golem seeing how you have spine of ish sah you can turn it into a monster to block creatures, not to mention turning troublesome artifacts into creatures that toshiro can kill. I think they may be a reason why you're not using him. Some of the instants from the latest zendikar set have some useful effects or be used for lands as well as far as creatures go I don't know if there are anything else or I could be missing something

September 15, 2020 2:11 p.m.

Huh. I hadn't thought about Karn, Silver Golem. That's not a bad idea at all, and worst case when there's nothing to use his ability on, he's still going to be an above-average blocker. I'm hesitant because he does cost 5 mana, and at that rate I do want a card that's a bit more guaranteed, but given that black struggles with artifact removal, he may be worth the risk of occasionally having an expensive defender. I'll see if I can test him out soon.

I know the feeling in the past I thought I needed more stuff but I know see what you mean for example liliana of the veil useful but not for toshiro I'm pleased that more planeswalker removel is add and the occasional enchantment but the draw power is lacking. I also wanted to apologize for the constant posting in the past

How about the new Feed the Swarm? Say goodbye to those pesky enchantment combos. We'd be messing with our life totals even more tho, so maybe some additional lifelink or life gain to incorporate the card. One and a black is an amazing rate!

Definitely looking to test out Feed the Swarm, enchantment removal is gonna be nice to finally have access too, even if it's only sorcery speed.

I'm also going to test out Malakir Rebirth  Flip and Soul Shatter, since those are both effects I'd love more of in the deck.

Emergence Zone would help with speeding up kills with torment of hailfire and Szat's Will seems like a good item

Any recent updates to your list here? Have you had a chance to look through all of Commander Legends and Kaldheim? Cheers.
