I think the idea is that dragon claw helps against a "mirror" match.

wouldn't Peak Eruption be better in the mirror match and be more on theme for this deck?

mana cost to expensive

quesobueno123 says... #5

No. Dragon's Claw keeps them from killing me. Peak Eruption is pointless burn doesn't care about lands.

September 28, 2014 8:12 p.m.

Actually, I disagree. Running Land-Destruction is good enough for the pros, so its good enough for me. Nowadays, they are starting to even mainboard it, which I tried and sort of liked back in the day (like 2 weeks ago). Molten Rain slows down opponents, and helps us get back on track with that extra burn. Peak Eruption is pretty much just Standard viable, not Modern.

I would go with Reverberate in stead of Skullcrack . It counters counters or acts as a win con. Also works really well with Rift Bolt .

Peak Eruption deals 3 damage and only has 2 red in its cost. If it's the mirror match you're playing it for, then it's the better choice since this deck's not mono-red, making Molten Rain 's double red cost a little more difficult.

Burn does care about lands, btw. It's own lands. Again, if it's a mirror match the burn player who's ahead on mana is probably winning.

September 28, 2014 9:13 p.m.

Double red more difficult?! Look at all those City of Brasses and Shocks. More difficult my foot! Molten Rain is more versatile, for no extra cost essentially. The chances of a mirror match are much less than the chances of an anything else match. Nothing in this deck can't produce red except for the fetches, which produce nothing.

September 28, 2014 9:41 p.m.

@ElPared Every land in the deck makes red mana. Molten Rain is better, unless you need to destroy basic Mountain s. Basically, it's better.

whatever, the point remains that land destruction is viable for burn decks. Don't have to rip me apart over it

September 28, 2014 9:46 p.m.

Not trying to rip you apart. Just pointing out a fallacy in your statement. I wouldn't play land destruction for the mirror anyway, it's more for control decks and manlands.

I will argue that the burn player who is ahead on lands isn't necessarily winning. The burn player with six lands in play is probably not winning. :)

While Land Destruction is indeed useful and viable in a burn deck, it's usefulness would come from being effective against things like manlands and Tron.

On the note of burn needing lands, most burn decks are built to operate on 2-3 lands per game. While land destruction could leave another burn deck open to going down to 1 land, they can still play the multitude of one drops in the deck. On top of that, you'd have to find time to play a 3 drop sorcery which won't even deal damage against many monored burn builds if running Molten Rain. While it's devastating in the best case scenario, at worst you're destroying the 3rd or 4th land that they simply can do without.

I like this deck, very well put together. +1! If you could find the time, please take a look at my Boros BBQ deck. It's extremely budget (I have it listed at what I would like to have, so I'm down half the deck, including all the Grim Lavamancer 's and Arid Mesa ) but any help it appreciated, should have the finished build by Christmas!

is there any advantage to staying just red black?

October 13, 2014 9:14 p.m.

Pupp3tMast3r says... #16

Not really. With all of the fixing now legal in the format, running an Oros burn deck is actually easily viable. White allows you Lightning Helix and Boros Charm while black allows you 4 more copies of Lightning Bolt in Bump in the Night

October 13, 2014 9:37 p.m.

Yeah. Especially with the new fetches, and in a deck so fast, the extra lifegain from Lightning Helix helps counteract the damage from fetches and shocks. The speed you get from exact 1CMC 3DMG spells and 2CMC 4DMG is really worth it. And of course, all the fetches help out with our favorite buddy, Grim Lavamancer .

okay, so give me some goals here. how many turns should the deck win in?

I am really thinking about purchasing a set of bobs soon. given that, what should be my essential creature list? (goblin guide, grim lavamancer, bob) what else?

October 14, 2014 12:59 a.m.

Ideally, we want turn 4-5 win. However, things rarely go our way, and we must prepare for the worst. Bob is a great way to keep the steam coming to make sure you have enough power to do that final burn. However, he is quite dangerous to use, especially in a deck full of Shocks, Fetches, and City of Brasses. Keeping this in mind, you would probably want 4x Lightning Helix to try and counteract the heavy damage you are taking. Even that, maybe only 3 Bobs is safe, as 4 might just flat out kill you. For creatures, Hellspark Elemental is okay, but unessential since we splash black and white for charm and bump. Instead, move some Skullcracks and Searing Blazes to the sideboard to make room for Bob, and keep the creatures as is (or maybe even take out 1 lavamancer). Guide, Lavamancer, Bob, and Eidolon are a good mix of creatures, as we want mosty cheap, effective, and efficient burn.

Thanks! I am going to take your advise and build a deck from it. I would be very grateful if you would look at it latter.

magicbullet Do not run bob in a burn deck.

quesobueno123 says... #22

Also creature base in a burn deck should be 4 Goblin Guide 4 Eidolon of the Great Revel and 2-3 Grim Lavamancer

October 14, 2014 6:20 a.m.

Pupp3tMast3r says... #23

With all the sorceries you want to run (the 12 in this list) Monastery Swiftspear is a good budget option for Goblin Guide . It allows more of a beatstick feel to the burn deck, but less versatility. Eidolon of the Great Revel is pushing for burn to be Tier 1 Legacy, so Eidolon is a must for this deck. No Bob, your goal is to either get 2 Eidolons on the field and laugh at your opponent or resolve 6 spells for 18 damage for the win, since everyone runs painful mana-bases in Modern.

T3 win is achievable but mythic rare. (Get the pun?!?) T4 is much more consistent and possible.

I have the goblin guides and eidolons. Yall are the first to say dont run bob. I believe you,but what type of deck is bob meant for?
