Will someone please explain to me why Eidolon of the Great Revel is good in this deck. Considering 100% of the maindeck has a CMC of 3 or lower.

I would definitely use Vexing Devil instead.

August 16, 2014 1:12 a.m.

@greensheepman7 Read my comment two above your post. The last paragraph explains why Eidolon is one of the best in not the best card in the deck.

@greensheepman7 Vexing Devil is a bad card after turn 1, Eidolon of the Great Revel is a million times better in a burn deck.

Understood

@greensheepman7 glad someone finally gets it after me explaing it to them :). It doesn't seem right when you first read the card, but the effect is amazing in burn even if you are taking damage too!

I can see how good it is. I was thinking at first of later in the game when only you would be taking damage. But then again, if you're playing this deck, there will be no late game.

ConBurnMadMan: I think you misunderstood what I said.

After I went 3-1 last night, everyone concurred that Eidolon of the Great Revel is a Great Nuisance that must be dealt with. Many hadn't seen it in action and underestimated the card, which lead to their inevitable doom. It ate removal like a cop eats donuts. This made my 'late' game Grim Lavamancer , Vexing Devil , and even Goblin Guide serious threats. Even if Eidolon is removed at a Shock to the opponent, it's still beneficial.

I suppose to truly appreciate Eidolon's awesomeness, one must either play with it or against it.

Just coming back after the +1, I reallylike how you splashed black and white to surpass some of the Red's weaknesses and also for adding some efficiant burn like Bump in the Night and Helix. And if you like Skullcrack maybe you could try Everlasting Torment

Would Path to Exile (or Chained to the Rocks ) not be a good sideboard option? I realize it might hurt with the Eidolon (who btw I fully support as a 4-of mainboard), but if your opponent is smashing you with a 4/5 Goyf or something, it seems like it might be good to take two damage to exile it. +1

CrovaxTheCursed Thanks for the +1, for goyf assuming that they have other creatures i hope to Slagstorm before it gets to big, or just kill them before it kills me.

I see, that works too. :P I had been following the previous comment string with some piqued interest and I have to say that the Eidolon is Mr. Billy Badass in this deck. Sure lifegain is really tough against the Eidolon, but all burn decks have trouble with lifegain anyway. That's why there's Rain of Gore ! (too bad Havoc Festival is a damn 6 drop...) The fact is that not only are you getting ahead by burning for three, taking two, but more than likely you're also getting through with 2 attack damage, netting you a 3 life advantage per turn rather than 1. And also to me, YOU gaining life in a burn deck can be just as important as dealing damage, which is why I like that you insist on keeping Lightning Helix mainboard, very good choice. Anyway, that's just my input on the matter.

Disdained Eidolon of the Great Revel Is completely amazing as in modern anything the other person could do to kill it they take two they take two almost any time they play a spell, sure I take damage but when playing this deck you don't care about your life total, just whether or not your opponent is dead.

too bad Sulfuric Vortex just misses the Modern mark.

I think I have to try out the Eidolon in my RDW build. last time I used the thing I lost because of it, and I prefer the Haste on Ash Zealot , but there's gotta be something to it.

Grafdigger's Cage and lavamancer don't play nice together. Rakdos Charm is good grave hate, artifact hate, and can kill Splinter Twin decks the turn they combo out. I would opt for that instead...especially since you have the base to do it!

Crypticity says... #23

ConBumMadMan, they work fine together. Grafdiggers cage nullifies flashback cards, and snapcaster. Lavamancer only effects your graveyard.

August 20, 2014 12:11 p.m.

For the sideboard: Combust versus Splinter Twin and wherever it can do something, Spellskite is strong in general, Leyline of Sanctity for the mirror and discard spells, Grafdigger's Cage for Snapcaster Mage , etc.

I would consider going up to four Skullcrack since Pod is so prevalent, cutting Lightning Helix down to two copies.
