I realize that there is a buttload or defense here, but is there anyway to negate some direct damage? if only there was a Stream of Life or something that could give you the time to get the set up

I like this, needs two things to make it truly superb. I recommend a playset of Charging Badger and a playset of Griselbrand . Needs removal as well take out all blue and make it white. Blue is stupid and white is right. Megantic Sliver would also be nice. To top it off, you need a playset of Boulderfall .

@CocoPuff_22 Thanks for the suggestions! Can't believe I didn't think of Boulderfall .

so... i HATE black devotion nowadays. How will this deal with the Desecration Demon 's? that Wall of Denial seems super sexy to deal with that. I've play tested this like a jillion times, and mana color just doesn't seem like much of a factor if you get the mechanic going. seems like the sky's the limit. I'd have to invest to get the Sylvan Caryatid 's, but i'm so gonna do it...

damn, is [Wall of Denial] not standard?

+1 from me for sure!

I did have a few suggestions, feel free to use or ignore. :)

I would definitely add one more Colossus of Akros , just for consistency and added defense. I would probably also drop a Mnemonic Wall . As far as land count goes, how is that working for you? I know you have the capability of making a TON of mana, but I feel you need at least one more, maybe two. Not sure what you would cut though. I also like the ideas behind your sideboard cards, but I worry it will stretch your manabase. Yeah you can cast them if you have a Sylvan Caryatid or two in play, or an Axebane Guardian , but they need to be in play and I worry some of those cards will rot in your hand due to lack of specific colored mana. I could be completely wrong. I would cut one of the Boulderfall and the two Ready / Willing . Maybe replace them with Negate for the control matchup? Protects your spells from countermagic or removal. I would also drop a Swamp (you only need to tutor up one with the Gatecreeper Vine ) and two of the Simic Guildgate and add in 2 Azorius Guildgate and 1 (or 2 if you cut a card for a 22nd land) Island . I think this will help with casting Rootborn Defenses out of the side, and it can be tutored by the Gatecreeper Vine in case you can't get mana ramp online. Let me know what you think. I know it's a bunch of ideas and I'm kinda all over the place. Sort of stream of consciousness while I have some down time at work.

Since I can't afford Phenax, God of Deception or Sylvan Caryatid , what could be affordable replacements?

@Domonator777 Doorkeeper is a good replacement for Phenax. The caryatid is actually one of the more important cards since it's both ramp and a defender. If you don't care about standard, Wall of Denial is your best bet, but you'd have to include more white mana. Otherwise either Wall of Frost or Arbor Elf would fit, depending on what is more important to you.

I love when people make awesome decks like this with a cool card that really nobody would run. I just built a pillowfort deck around Codex Shredder with no real win con that is really useful but you should check it out Grinning Pillow Tiger says Shred.oh and btw +1.

Just got a great combo going.

Get a token of Mnemonic Wall out in play. If you are playing a deck with mostly aggro play Druid's Deliverance , populate on your Mnemonic Wall token and get back your druid's deliverance. play every turn and get free defenders.

T5: Hold on does that even work?! Fated Infatuation on Mnemonic Wall returning... Fated Infatuation ?

The comprehensive rules state that

304.2. When an instant spell resolves, the actions stated in its rules text are followed. Then it's put into its owner's graveyard.

So I guess you can only use the combo with two infatuations switching places, seeing how the one you cast isn't in the graveyard when the effects resolve, right? I could be wrong though, I never played more than very casual.

Hey Tobl. You'd be right if Fated returned a spell on resolution, but that is not what happens. When it resolves, it puts a token in play, then goes to the graveyard. Only Then does the etb trigger go off, allowing you to pick up the fated you just used.

Tobl says... #19

ah, okay. would have thought that etb triggers the very moment the token comes into play, not wait for the instant to be put into the graveyard.

What university are you at? I find I'm having the same problem, but the opposite (ie I play Modern but the USC MtG community mostly plays Standard, as far as I know)
