Combo fish! Many of the merfolk in lorwyn cared about being tapped or untapped to activate abilities. Many of the new merfolk from Ixilan care about exploring and getting +1/+1 counters. Luckily kumena can work with both.

While I would call this deck fairly optimized I think the go wide strategy that merfolk implores does not tend to do well at well tuned competitive EDH tables. If I had to give this a power level, 1 being below pre-constructed decks and a 10 being a maximized tainted pact competitive deck list. I would feel comfortable to give this close to a seven.

When it gets going and the value engines come online it starts to snowball out of control. Oh, yes it can be answered however if you do not answer the right thing at the right time... good luck! Most of the free counterspells in this deck could be a little pricey, you could feel free to replace them with negate, swan song, Arcane denial, and traditional counterspell. Doing so with little to no detriment to how well this machine runs.

Sadly with Paradox Engine being banned and prophet of kruphix also being banned, we are running dramatic reversal and Isochron Scepter in here for full value of untapping, and with enough mana from artifacts.. We can go infinite with it. OH HOW EXCITING! I will be updating this list as play testing goes on and will give my reasons as to why these cards are in here!

With Wanderwine Prophets, you can theoretically acheive infinite turns in this deck by adding in Nim Deathmantle. Basically on a developed enough board, find a way to give your Prophets unblockable (Fairly easy, believe me) and as long as you have 4 mana of any type, and a single nontoken creature to sacrifice (say, Silvergill Adept or Merrow Harbinger) you sacrifice them upon combat damage, pay 4.. return the card to play (Drawing if its silvergill or tutoring if its harbinger) put your extra turn on the stack and proceed to win the game.

Now it is up to you if you want to run something like this and it certainly isnt a free win, however if the games are taking long this is a darn cool way to win with merfolk..
