Thanks kengiczar. Elves are a lot of fun and were my first real foray into commander. growing this deck to the competitive level has been great fun. Elven tribal interaction is by far my favorite in MTG. Only being one color has just as many advantages and weaknesses as multi-color....and as always....the meta determines viability. I enjoy my alter thoroughly as well! I am glad you appreciate it!

Alright...making a change hopefully for the better. Gonna add my Boreal Druid and my Vorinclex, Voice of Hunger so for my Darksteel Plate and my Skullclamp. Hope this ends well :)

If this is meant for duel commander, then the deck seems kind of top-heavy. Your 3-drops outweigh your 1-drops. You have things like Dwynen, the Nissa walker, and Hunting Triad clogging up your spots and slowing the deck down. Additionally, Elvish Piper costs a lot of mana if you only really have a handful of good things to pipe in. A 4CMC elf that lets you save one or two mana a turn is pretty mediocre. Elves in duel commander is kind of an all-in strategy anyway, so you probably want the deck to be as fast as possible.

I'd be remiss if I didn't mention Heritage Druid and Birchlore Rangers. Heritage + two other 1CMC dudes can give you a T2 Archdruid that can tap for 5+ on T3. If you get your Staff or Umbral Mantle, you can go infinite before the opponent has enough mana for a wrath effect. Birchlore isn't quite as good, but he still lets your summoning-sick elves help cast other things.

You should try and pick up an Aluren, too. It's hilariously good in an Ezuri deck. Dump your hand for free, at instant speed, and prevent your commander from ever truly going away.

I'll definitely try and snag the Birchlore Rangers a.s.a.p. I see the direction you are pointing for....It'll be a bit till i can pick up the Heritage Druid and Aluren, but they are definite adds. Then I'll have to pick up Cloudstone Curio as well... for more infinite shenanigans... oh and a Concordant Crossroads..Then i could fit the Craterhoof Behemoth and perhaps Avenger of Zendikar back in..I'll get there someday! Then all I need is a Gaea's Cradle as the cherry on top....

Erased quite a bit from the Maybe list. Put the Darksteel Plate back in. I think i need the extra protection. Hoping more suggestions come up to help this deck....one major flaw i see is the lack of recursion....just no clue what to take out for it....i could add Eternal Witness and Creeping Renaissance possibly even Primal Command.... i would need to get a Genesis to run it....and what to take out??

how to get the card art in the commander space?

May 17, 2016 6:25 p.m.

Hexbringer0 says... #10

You have to upload the alter to the website. It'll then give you a code you can add to the end of the card like A=1997. This works with any card in any place. It's great. any fiurther help try the forums or good ol' google.

like this

Ezuri, Renegade Leader

I would change out Scroll Rack with Paradox Engine. My reasoning for this is you lack multiple fetch lands or creatures that can be played to shuffle your library. Currently I count two creatures that allow you to shuffle, if you do not want to change it I would recommend adding fetch lands to increase Scroll Rack's usefulness without impacting deck tempo with the added benefit of deck thinning. Having played a Lin Sivvi, Defiant Hero rebel deck I can tell you from first hand experience that shuffle effects make it quite powerful.

As for Selvala, Heart of the Wilds, I don't think she would actually add much to your deck, her draw effect is pretty situational since Ezuri's overrun effect wont affect new elves coming into play with the possibility to backfire on you by allowing opponents potential draw. As for her mana effect, Paradox Engine would probably have greater effect with the number of mana producers you have but with less backfire potential.

I am sure there is a reason but I cannot spot it; so why did you put in a snow-covered forest?

Gadianten , thanks so much for the reply! I like your thought on Paradox Engine and Scroll Rack. i Have 11 tutors to shuffle the rack, and if that's not enough i understand. I would run Sensei's Divining Top, but being banned in duel commander, its just another awesome card to switch in and out.

Selvala, Heart of the Wilds is another infinite mana producer, and i am really tempted to put her in because of that, though i know there is risks, which in duel commander could end up pretty bad but in normal commander is much needed politics, so i am now even more unsure, which is a good thing.

The snow covered forest is in here because the difference between 1 snow land and a regular forest is negligible and i like the art. Plus in the unlikely circumstance someone plays Extraplanar Lens with all snow covered forests i benefit too. Ha....

Anyway thanks again for the response. I have been at a loss regarding the engine for awhile. :)

If you want Selvala, Heart of the Wilds in the deck try replacing Nissa, Vastwood Seer  Flip with her. Nissa seems unlikely to flip and there are superior sources of elf mana to be had. They also share a CMC so it would not change the mana curve and has the bonus of increasing devotion by . If Nissa is in for land fetching only you might consider Farhaven Elf instead as it does a better job and synergizes with Gilt-Leaf Archdruid by upping druid count by one.

On a slightly interesting rules note for Selvala, Heart of the Wilds, you can increase the creatures power before the ability resolves and guarantee a card if you have single target power boost abilities at instant speed. The most likely way to mitigate her downfall would be pumping your elves up higher then opponent creatures to deny them the card draw.

Hi Poprox. Thanks for checking it out!!!!

Nettle Sentinel just didn't make the cut in my build. What would you cut from my current build to add him in? What does he synergize with more than other things in my list? I have a hard time answering those myself.

I am really having fun with the current build, and changes need a lot to be justified at this point. Keep in mind i am trying to keep this legal in both Duel and EDH, with minimal card switches needed.

Poprox says... #19

I would cut Nissa, she doesn't seem very necessary.

Poprox says... #20

I would also drop Sylvan Scrying for Greater Good.

May 19, 2017 12:52 p.m.

Hexbringer0 says... #21

Greater Good would only help when I am already pumping my elves and my deck no longer needs the gas... Though it is a great card. Nettle Sentinel does nothing I need in commander. There's is only Birchlore Rangers to exploit the untap. Not quite enough to justify inclusion. Nissa has been discussed quite a bit and I have considered Eternal Witness, Birthing Pod, Scroll Rack, Elvish Champion, Gilt-Leaf Archdruid, Dwynen, Gilt-Leaf Daen and many others, but can't seem to pull the trigger do to sentiment and her being a removal target that takes a blow my combo pieces won't have to. Thanks so much for the continued input Poprox!!!

So I'm a little confused on something here. Is this supposed to be a multiplayer only build or is it a duel commander deck? I do see a Sol Ring, and of course the deck is labeled as regular EDH, but I also saw commentary about "the top" (which shall not be named) that got me waning to check.

Anyway, as a side note did you realize that Argothian Elder can make infinite mana in the right scenario with Wirewood Lodge and a land that taps for more than one mana?

For actual commentary, have you ever heard of Tangleroot and how would you feel about using it as part of any of your combo effects? I admit I don't see where space could be made unless you started removing elves or lands, but personally I'm curious as to how well it could do. The same could go for Vizier of the Menagerie but he's not an elf so :P to him right?

Hexbringer0 says... #23

Hi TheRedGoat. First off, I have tried to make the deck playable in both formats with minimal cards needing to be switched out. In this case it is just Sol Ring and Rofellos, Llanowar Emissary. At some point I intend to list the many many infinite combos this deck has, that being one of them. It simply is very time consuming and I can be quite lazy :) my favorite with the Elder is with Maze of Ith! :) Tangleroot would go great with Lifecrafter's Bestiary, but as you noticed there's not really a spot for it and I am very hesitant to add any other cards besides Selvala, Heart of the Wilds that can benefit my opponents as much as me. I really do like the Vizier of the Menagerie even if he is not an elf and if I ever snag one I will definitely want to try him out in this deck, even if I have no clue what I'd take out:) Thanks so much !!!

TheRedGoat just "clicked" on your "top" comment and realized I didn't touch on that. I am not saying it is the best Renegade leader list on tappedout, simply it has the most up votes. Consider it is a tier three commander for EDH and as such isn't all that popular for people looking for competitive builds. It is far to easy for this deck to get broken by something as common as a board wipe. It can win against one or two opponents by turn 3 or four but any more opponents beyond that and it just can't keep up. There are different ways to build this for far more resilience in 4+ games but that would ruin my lists competitive nature in duel commander, where I would consider it at least tier 2. Hope that clears some of it up for you!!!

Considering listing this under duel commander again instead... People just tend not to check out duel commander lists on here which was the reason I changed it to EDH in the first place. I like getting comments and often need them to make the changes it needs. We'll see how I feel in the coming weeks..thanks everyone for the continued support and input!!
