Could you please explain the Workhorse/Sharuum/Mirrorworks combo to the mere mortal?

Thank you!

Mirrorworks or Minion Reflector on the battlefield before Sharuum enters. Workhorse can be anywhere, if it's on the battlefield you can remove all the counter to add mana so it goes to the graveyard.

1) Cast Sharuum while Mirrorworks is on the battlefield, Workhorse in the graveyard.

2) Sharuum ETB and Mirrorworks triggers. Put both abilities on the stack so that Sharuum's ETB returning Workhorse solves first.

3) Workhorse enters and triggers Mirrorworks on top of Sharuum's mirrorworks trigger.

4) Remove all counters from Workhorse for 4 mana and use it to pay for both Mirrorworks triggers.

5) Sharuum's Mirrorworks trigger resolves, legend rule sac the original commander to the graveyard. The copy of sharuum targets and brings back the commander.

6) Sharuum comes back repeat step 1) netting a token of Workhorse --> infinite Workhorse = infinite army and mana

Ok thanks! I'm in the process of building a budgt version of this deck so I just wanted to know how it worked. Thank you!

This deck is absolutely livid and i love it. Making my own interpretation of it. I don't like to use counterspells so I'm just gonna throw in cheap removal. Can't wait to test this in my playgroup!

This deck is fun in theory but ends up dead in the water as a combo good stuff. The "Strategies" you listed in your primer are great but the problem is that often your hands are going to flop around with nothing to do but make mana. Good cEDH decks can work in a grey area of midrange. This one cannot. This deck either wins off of an infinite combo quickly or stagnates and loses to dumb shit. I know because built it and tried playing with it for about twenty-five games and it was the same story over and over again. It just couldn't keep up with Kess, Breya, or hulkweaver.

I am completely aware of that, in fact I made a Breya deck sharing half of the cards in this deck so I can compete other cEDH decks. Many people see the word "competitive" automatically thinks I am considering it as cEDH, but I am not. I only mention cEDH because I want to highlight that this deck is different from them, in which makes it not cEDH. I can make it more competitive, but the nature of commander and the style I want to build it will never be, so why not just have a fun concept I enjoy and still quite competitive. I do disagree on your comment about dead cards. I play test few times a day, the average turn I can combo off is around 5, sometimes with counterspell backups. On average it's pretty consistent, maybe your play tests were too greedy on comboing off fast so more often you are stuck with hands of only ramps.

Hi I’m not sure Sharuum and metamorph/sculpting steel with KCI/Altar nets infinite mana since the legend rule is a state based effect that cannot be responded to - could someone confirm/deny this for me as I am not certain as to the ruling.

You only put one into graveyard due to the legend rule; let commander go into graveyard and the copy bring it back. Response to the recursion trigger you can sacrifice the copy for Mana, commander then comes back grabbing the clone. Repeat for infinite mana

when you do de infinite loop with Sharuum and Sculpting Steel for example why not play Bitter Ordeal for combo?

I can. But it's not as mana efficient and cannot get back with the commander. Most tutors involve finding artifacts opposed to sorceries

Just wanted to say I love the deck, and while I do see what some people mean when they say it has dead draws,And maybe a little bit to much Redundancy I actually think you’ve done probably the best job, of showcasing just how versatile Sharuum Is than any build of her I’ve seen. This deck almost feels like a “Best of” Sharuum. And I would say is almost artistic in its construction. Thank you for sharing, and I can definitely tell this deck is a labor of love.

Have you thought about putting Teshar and Myr Retriever in the list? I've had a few times where the combo felt really easy if I got the Teshar ea

I love the deck and have constructed most of it myself, and have been practicing piloting it. Remembering how many cards interact with each other is really fun although confusing. One combo I didn't understand was the mixed combo of Sharuum the Hegemon + Mirrorworks + Ashnod's Altar + Sensei's Divining Top. Don't you need to use Krark-Clan Ironworks instead of Ashnod's so you can sacrifice the top and renaimate it infinitely to get your draws? Lots of brainpower required to explain and play out these combos, just making sure it wasn't a type and the combo works differently. Thanks!

ChaosClaws Remember that Sharuum the Hegemon + Mirrorworks + Ashnod's Altar gives you infinite mana. After that you play Sensei's Divining Top, copy it. Tap the original one to draw a card, then tap the token one to draw the top that was put on top of the library -> you net 1 card from this process. Repeat to draw the entire deck with infinite colorless mana and do whatever you want.

I was looking at your explanation of some of the Turn 1 wins and I was wondering how you do the turn 1 win with the 6 cards.

Swamp + Dark Ritual + Disciple of the Vault/Altar of the Brood + Mana Crypt /Mana Vault + Lion's Eye Diamond + Phyrexian Metamorph/Sculpting Steel (copy as Lion's Eye Diamond) then cast Sharuum the Hegemon

I get that the first couple of steps are:

  1. Swamp into Dark Ritual into either Disciple or Altar (leaves two black floating)

  2. Play Vault (assuming vault is better due to producing 3 instead of 2) while dropping Lion's Eye.

  3. Tap Vault and use the 3 floating colorless to play Steel or use the floating 3 plus 2 life for Metamorph and have the artifact you play become a copy of Lion's Eye.

  4. Crack both Lion's Eye and the copy played from step 3 to create 3 floating White and 3 floating Blue in order to play Sharuum and use her effect to call one of them back.

I'm at a loss after that.

Sharuum the Hegemon targets a clone artifact in the graveyard is an infinite loop.

Suppose you target Sculpting Steel in the graveyard, "as it enters" you choose to become a copy of Sharuum the Hegemon, on state-base-action you have to send one to the graveyard due to the legend rule; then trigger ability of Sharuum goes onto the stack, you can then return either Sculpting Steel or Sharuum the Hegemon back from the graveyard depends on which one you let it die. Repeat for infinite life lose from Disciple of the Vault

Love the deck man. I'm actually almost finished completing it. I had a question on which of the last 3 cards I should prioritize first.

Lion's Eye Diamond

Grim Monolith

Power Artifact

I feel like all three are crucial to this decks speed or efficiency. As well as, being good investments or useful in other decks. My Kess deck could use LED or Grim Monolith.

If you're still active and can offer advice, thank you!
