I'm not convinced that Hope of Ghirapur is good for Shirei, at least not in multiplayer. Because it you don't attack with it, you don't have a valid target for it's ability, so you can't sacrifice it on your opponents' turns. In a Duel Commander/1v1 match, I'd see it being much more useful.

Hope of Ghirapur is good against the control player. Or someone you know likes to cast broken non-creature spells

I'm not sure it will work either SmokeyBear15, but I enjoy testing new effects. It is unfortunate that the sacrifice clause prevents me from using it every turn, and at the very least it's made me reconsider adding Blood Pet.

Is Tattered Mummy viable?

MtgMaster02: I feel it fits the power level of Perilous Myr. You need a sacrifice outlet to make it useful, and it cannot target creatures, but in a multiplayer game it can do a lot of work. However, I cannot think of a card I want to remove for it.

That's my problem, it would be good. Just don't know what I want to take out for it

Amazing deck and primer. I play a similar list. Have you considered Gate to the afterlife? It gives life and free looting is just awesome. Also I know you said your group doesn't like infinite combos but Nether traitor is great as extra fodder that's pretty hard to get rid of and comboes with Phyrexian altar and Genesis chamber or an on death token generator for infinite mana and death triggers. Also I really like triskelion on this deck have you ever tried it?

Thanks for your suggestions patrikl. I considered Gate to the Afterlife when it was printed but never tried it; I'll give it a second look. Triskelion and Pentavus were in the original deck list and eventually removed for less expensive creatures. I still try to avoid infinite combos, and Nether Traitor adds very little to the deck on its own.

Hey Vinman, thank you for taking the time to read and comment on my deck. Regarding Reprocess: I avoid one-off effects at sorcery speed that can be replicated with Shirei's sacrifice engine.

No problem. I really like your list. I've been wanting to do something different for a while, and this general is pretty out there. Sure the deck is fragile with him on the field, but so are almost all other decks. I think I'll brew something but use your list as a base so I know what i want the end target to be.

That's a good suggestion Vinman; I'll consider it.

IF you make changes, let me know how it works out. Sac outlets are always great, plus it protects a possible win condition.

Happy to see you're testing Yahenni. I find myself putting it in more and more decks. Its very resilient and in black with emphasis with sacrifice it shines

Played this tonight and I am still 14 cards short of the full deck. It was a lot of fun but I got targetted real quick.

Two things: Have you considered using Mithril Coat over Darksteel Plate?

Second, how does a typical early game go for you? I feel like playing on curve, which I did, makes it too easy for opponents to keep you shut down.

Thanks for taking the time to comment Dalcron.

I like playing the deck like a glass cannon; it either goes off or goes horribly wrong. Mithril Coat is probably a better option.

It's not new or shiny, but Gift of Doom might be a better source of Indestructible if you have access to Black. Morph isn't an ability as far as stuff like Split Second are concerned, so it's better than Flash arguably (imho it's usually easier to counter an Artifact vs a Morph creature in Commander, so that's a bit more upside). You can also protect non-Legends, not sure if that comes up, but the sacrifice cost can easily be an upside in this deck.

I kind of like the idea of Sorceress Queen, her ability can be used to nerf an opponent's creature, or to protect one of your bigger bodies (that doesn't have +1 counters). I couldn't decide if you have enough of your own bodies that she can protect, but I thought I'd mention it. I'm not sure if anyone plays decks that revolve around big haymakers, but if anyone uses them (or generically good Commanders) you can steal them with Ritual of the Machine or Helm of Possession, both require a creature, a cost you're very able to pay I suspect.

After thinking a bit more, would Disciple of the Vault do anything in here? It's a bit like Blood Artist in that it can punish decks trying to do unfair things (your group doesn't like infinites, but does it like treasures?), but it also lets you pinch people whenever any artifact of your own dies. and you do have a few artifact creatures/token generators. Disciple also works with Grim Hireling, but you need to be getting in consistently, I wasn't sure if your deck achieves that most games.

Great deck idea!

Thanks for commenting DreadKhan.

Sorceress Queen, Disciple of the Vault, and Helm of Possession were in the deck early on; the helm eventually ended up in a clone deck, and the other two were phased out as I tried other things. I like equipment that can be re-used when you suffer a setback and there's some recursion for artifacts if it does end up in the graveyard, but Gift of Doom is a neat card.

I'm glad something in there that was interesting/relevant, sorry a bunch of that stuff is old news! Gift has never ceased to amaze me in the one deck I use it in, it's a Voltron/Control Vorthos deck that mostly uses things like non-Aura Enchantments, Lands, and a few key Equipment to function, I don't love Auras in that deck but the difficulty in interacting with it can make it worth the effort. Exquisite Blood is another card I really like in that deck, would people in your pod just gang up on you if you resolved Blood? If not it's a very strong continuous effect, afaik the main reason not to run it is because of the combos that uses it, if your group will believe you're using it as a 5 mana weird lifelink effect would they tolerate it?

Matso says... #24

I have Exquisite Blood in a couple other decks already, and if Shirei's endless cycle of death triggers is online it isn't necessary.
