Shivers and Shakes (budget version)

This deck wins by distracting your opponent with Delvers and Nightveil Specters until you can play Maralen and tutor Ob Nixilis. Playing Maralen opens a bag of worms because your opponent will get to tutor first, and perhaps find a card they can kill you with. Having open mana and a counterspell in your hand will be useful. As such, the Maralen trick is highly conditional and you will not want to rely on it to win. Thankfully the Delvers and Specters are a fairly solid attack that will trouble some decks.

This deck was slightly more viable when Treasure Cruise was legal in Modern. Since it stops all card drawing, it does hose some decks that need card draw and can't tutor a single card to kill you. Against combo giving your opponent a free tutor pass is potentially suicide. I might rename this deck Russian Roulette.

Still, it's fun to play. I find a lot of opponents start chatting with me because they find the game amusing in some way. So it's a social deck, a conversation starter. Who doesn't like a game of Russian roulette now and again!?!

A non-budget version of this deck with Gifts Ungiven, Jace, Architect of Thought and perhaps Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver would be a fair bit stronger.
