This is a deck that I've had for some time now - it was one of my earlier decks and was designed to be played in Pauper. Additionally, the initial build of this deck was designed for every single spell to be hybrid. The results were surprising: Shorecrasher Mimic ended up being a fast, efficient, and overall ridiculously reliable beater. I started to question why he wasn't played in Modern, but I quickly realized that a playing field flooded with Tarmogoyfs, Lilianas, Grapeshots, Merfolk, and the like was not going to change any time soon.
I started to shift my focus away from Pauper format and ask myself, "How can I make this deck a competitive Modern list?" I slowly began drifting away from Pauper, and a lot of my other decks in general, and put my focus almost entirely into this deck. While I don't have all of the cards for it quite yet - I'm missing 3 Hinterland Harbors, 1 Remand, 3 Hinders, 1 Master of Waves, and the Spellskites and Mindbreak Traps in the sideboard - this is what I came up with.
Of note: I had prototyped a build not long before this one and took it to a local Modern tournament. It tended to go 50/50 against Storm, 50/50 against Red Deck Wins, and generally won the Living End matchup, but had trouble against heavy control and removal, 8-Rack in particular. The deck took 7th place out of 34 competitors.
Alterations are still needed for sure. But for now, I feel that this is a relatively solid build.
