DrukenReaps that one isn't very good xD, I have just been randomly testing stuff. I will send you a better one!

SynergyBuild but that is why it is more fun, reminds me of some of the shenanigans I did with my Karn, Silver Golem deck..
I think one of the combos was Myr Retriever + Junk Diver sacrificed to Krark-Clan Ironworks with Semblance Anvil... I guess that isn't the worst but it is far from the best, lol.

Just. No.
Deck is worthless.
Definately unworthy the to be featured.

Pervrat no need to be an asshole... Lets see I think I have 10 more tokens, so that is what... 16 hours per token? Think I'll use them all on this one. Just for you :)

Pervrat you must have a sad life if this is how you choose to spend it... Any future comments from you will be removed. I'll keep these ones though, they entertain me.

A nice, little primer with a decent outline of an underappreciated commander. I've popped by a few times and I have to say you've found a bunch of awesome cards for Mairsil that I'm excited to give a go in my Mairsil deck. When I eventually get around to making it...
If I were to recommend anything, it'd be to replace some cage-fodder with some instant-speed interaction and sweet, sweet draw/cycling; like: Crosis's Charm, Terminate, Cyclonic Rift, Fact or Fiction, Steam Augury, Cathartic Reunion and Phyrexian Arena. Just to make your deck more consistent and less dependent on creatures, yaknow?
I also gotta shout-out Cavern Harpy, Avatar of Woe, Hammer of Purphoros, Whispering Madness, Basalt Monolith and Thran Dynamo as worthwhile possible additions to the list.
Other than that, I think this list is "Definately worth the to be featured" and I look forward to seeing your update to the primer!

Trotticus thanks, it is really hard to decide between cage-fodder and non-cageables...I should probably run more non-cageables...
My group sometimes lets me get away with too much, lol. I'm going to try and sit down next weekend and do an overhaul of the primer. Maybe I'll figure out a spot for some of the things I've been looking at.

Suns_Champion I've abducted your primer format and will be modifying it for my use :P
Damn thing is going to take awhile though...

Wait... you are using Elspeth, Suns_Champion's primer primer?
Wut?
When has anyone needed a primer to write a primer, and did someone write a primer for that? Wow.

Up-voted solely for the BG2 quote prefacing the commentary/updates. Good stuff.

I love BG2. Amazing game and amazing deck. Take your +1, Jon Irenicus.

DrukenReaps free for you to use, good luck! Writing a primer is a lot of work but is very satisfying when all is said and done. Like the deck and the alter, +1!
SynergyBuild not a primer of a primer no. Epochalyptik did that better than I ever could. I simply have a blank primer format that I wrote out and use on my decks. I put it all here so others can use it.

Apollo_Paladin and moldycrow83 damn, my evil plot is revealed! I really wasn't sure if anyone would get the references, lol. Jon Irenicus is one of my favorite villains.

Just wanted to give a quick shout out to you for inspiring me to start brewing Mairsil (even though it's admittedly a bit of a rabbit hole).
Surprised that nobody has mentioned Necrotic Ooze yet as a sort of Mairsil-lite that you could use for some additional combos

Rogue_Toaster we will see how deep this rabbit hole goes then :) Also I kinda want to watch The Matrix now...
As for Necrotic Ooze I dunno. I've thought about it before but I try not to let cool things sit in my graveyard for very long. I am going to try and be less reliant on Mairsil though so that might be a good step in that direction.

So I guess I don't have an excuse to avoid expensive cards anymore after the foils I just purchased.... Curse my addiction to shiniez!

Crypt Rats is another fun repeatable wrath effect with Mairsil, and doesn't even require him to tap :)

Rogue_Toaster I've looked at it a number of times and I would love to make it work here. The "spend only " makes me hesitant... Still I should actually try it out in a few games. The potential to kill everyone probably makes it worth while, lol.

Also what are your thoughts on cards with the "spellshaper" creature type, such as Stronghold Machinist and Alexi, Zephyr Mage. IE, cards that discard cards for good effects on a cage-able body, since most of the discard fodder can in itself be caged
December 23, 2018 6:15 p.m.
DrukenReaps says... #22
Rogue_Toaster I'm not sure how many of them are really worth it but I've been eyeballing a few for awhile. In theory they are pretty nice since you just cage whatever is discarded. I like Hammer Mage and Alexi, Zephyr Mage. Even Urborg Syphon-Mage and Dreamscape Artist might be decent.
There could be some other nice ones like Stronghold Machinist that you mentioned.
I am more interested in adding additional "card advantage". Something like Stitcher Geralf would likely be a better inclusion than most spellshapers since you have the potential to get into more cage targets faster.
The discard part of their cost is neither advantageous nor disadvantageous as long as you discard something that could be caged.

I appreciate your fast responses :) you've been very helpful in my own list construction.
Mercurial Chemister is admittedly a pet card of mine, but he feels right at home here as extra card draw and burn/removal. I'm also running Dralnu, Lich Lord in my list, but I have a much higher density of instants and sorceries (namely tutors).
As for cards that Mill instead of discard to gain virtual advantage, Altar of Dementia might be worth it? You can sac creatures that you steal with theft effects, or put creatures into the yard to cage with Mairsil

Rogue_Toaster Thanks, glad I can be of help. Getting to use some pet cards of my own is actually part of why I even built this, lol. I also completely forgot Jaya Ballard, Task Mage is a spellshaper... She has been very worth it.
Had a situation where someone had played Grip of Chaos and I just couldn't get my abilities to hit the right thing. I got lucky with a caged Tree of Perdition (and by lucky I mean I used the ability close to 15 times) followed by 6 damage to everyone taking out the chaos player and one other. Finished off the others shortly after with Spikeshot Elder. I learned that grip is way undervalued that day...
I could see the altar being a decent addition too.

Hey there. Working on my own Mairsil build and have been using your build as inspiration and a reference point since Mair is a completely different type of build than any other Commander. I have some questions about your build and statements about my own that I hope you can provide some insights on as I haven't piloted Mairsil yet.
How does Mairsil's ability to run on board removal like Avater of Woe and the Disk effect your need to run wipes and removal in the deck? I'm running 5 Crawlspace like effects including Silent Arbiter and Caverns of Despair and was thinking along with the disk maybe I wouldn't have to run board wipes because of it. Or is the fact that often your board state will just be Mairsil and some mana rocks offset this and create a need for the same or more wipes as most decks?
It seems to me that you would want to be untapping Mairsil as often as possible. Would you suggest running Horseshoe Crab on top of School and Morphling?
I was thinking of running Traumatize to play on myself thus giving me instant access to have my deck to cage. Thoughts?
Also considering Archeomancer to recur Buried Alive and Entomb (also, let me recommend Final Parting ) or is this unneccessary over kill?
DrukenReaps says... #1
SynergyBuild that second combo seems much more fun to me, lol. I'll dig around your Mairsil Stax-Combo and see if there is anything I want to steal.
At the very least a quick look showed me that I need to expand my primer here. I'd like this to be the go-to for anyone wanting to make a Mairsil deck. Not necessarily contain all the knowledge here but definitely would like to give everyone a jumping off point.
