IMMG54 sorry I didn't see your comment earlier, for some reason I wasn't notified...

So first part of the combo is to cage Tree of Perdition , Spikeshot Elder , and a way to reset Mairsil like AEtherling .

At this point Spikeshot will read as : 4 damage to any target

Perdition will read as : set target player to 4 life

Start by Mairsil to set an opponent to 4 life then pay to do 4 damage to that player then pay to exile Mairsil until end of turn. When he returns he will be back to 4 toughness and you can do the same to the next opponent.

Oh you're right. Thank you for that. Great deck! +1!

I think Pendant of Prosperity might be a "must have" for Mairsil decks. The value when it is caged is crazy...

Pay draw 2 and play up to 2 lands when caged.

Why run Visera over avatar of woe?

DrukenReaps says... #6

Tadashiro there are a lot of flying creatures in my meta and Visara the Dreadful can often take out 2 of them when they attack me. That is if I even play her. I'd say half the time I just put her in the cage so mana cost means very little, the other half the time I need a big scary flier.

Glad to see a fellow Mairsil player in the wild! I gotta say though: Mairsil is one of my favorite commanders. I wrote a whole primer on him. And only after reading yours did I realize that Mirage Mirror actually resets his abilities. I've only ever used it defensively. That's such an enabler now that I might actually retool the deck and take out some of the redundant pieces. Good eye!

In the combo you talked about above, what gets you passed the "once per turn"?

September 19, 2019 7:54 a.m.

DrukenReaps says... #10

DarkHero short answer is nothing.

If you add in a haste effect you can do it as the turns get to each person. Well kinda. Do one person on your turn. At your end step Mairsil pops back in and you can pop another person then or wait until their turn. If you do it again you will have to wait for another end step to actually occur but once it does you can pop another person.

If you replace AEtherling with Pack Rat , Mirage Mirror , or Deadeye Navigator you can do it all at once.

Throne of Eldraine is still being spoiled. Nothing has really caught my eye for this deck yet but still a few things I might test or at least consider adding here.

Lochmere Serpent - card draw and unblockable on one card allows me more flexibility. Not sure if I can use the third ability when it is in play so I asked that question here

Folio of Fancies - I don't like this as much as Oona but it is potentially another way to mill everyone out of the game.

Faerie Formation - Often times I have 1 to 3 creatures and I don't have access to very many good ways of making creature tokens. This makes a token and draws a card so... Maybe?

Piper of the Swarm - It is a thing... I'm just pointing out that it exists though... Seems like wayyy too much mana to make it work.

Syr Konrad, the Grim - efficiently digs for more cage targets and mill 1 from each opponent. Seems alright?

The Cauldron of Eternity - Interesting in the cage, I think? Only reanimates from my graveyard though... Still I essentially cheat it into play by caging it and don't get the downside of it.

Forgive me if I'm missing something obvious, but we're saying the goal is to flicker and essentially clone mairsil for more activation right? I assume that is how your comboing past the "once per turn".

DarkHero correct.

It works differently depending on what "reset" button you use. A reset button is required though because tree's ability will make Mairsil's toughness higher than 4. I'll also note at this point that it can be a convenient combo to go for since Buried Alive grabs all of it but it isn't the best one to go for.

If you use AEtherling as part of it then the combo is actually more complex than it needs to be. If you use Pack Rat as part of it then it becomes more mana but simpler and easier to do. I'll show that version below step by step.

Have Tree of Perdition + Spikeshot Elder + Pack Rat caged. Have Fervor in play.

Step 1: tap Mairsil to set target player to 4 life and Mairsil's toughness to that player's life total

Step 2: pay to do 4 damage to that player

Step 3: "reset" Mairsil by paying and discarding a card

This makes a copy of mairsil. Let the original Mairsil die. Repeat steps 1 through 3 until all opponents are dead.

Add Mirror-Mad Phantasm to the deck to turn it into a Grixis Hermit Druid deck, lol. Just kidding, but it's worth considering in all seriousness.

hellhole3927 funny thing is I literally just pulled it from the deck yesterday. It is a fine card but I'd rather cast Traumatize on myself since I'm not comboing Mirror-mad with Laboratory Maniac .

What about Sensei's Divining Top ? Seems like build in scry and protection from removal is pretty good.

heymonroe good card is good ;) Honestly I don't know why it isn't in here other than I probably ran out of space for it. Should be easy enough to open up a spot for it now though.

Hahah, for sure!

Can you elaborate on how to use Quicksilver Elemental - I'm a little fuzzy on it, I think.

This is great, thanks!

heymonroe says... #19

Nevermind, I just read an article that explains it. I didn't realize that the ability gives you a new instance of abilities.

I'm probably just grasping at good stuff cards, but Skithiryx, the Blight Dragon does everything we want to do here.

heymonroe Quicksilver is an interesting one and rather strange. It can work if it is 'caged' or on the battlefield.

On the battlefield you pay and then target the creature whos abilities you want quicksilver to have. Pretty straight forward there.

When caged Mairsil has the ability to copy the abilities of target creature. He can target himself with this and then he gains quicksilver's ability and all his other abilities again. Then you activate the quicksilver ability again and he gains all his abilities again.

Note you can still only use his abilities once per turn but since you keep getting copies of the abilities as long as you can pay for quicksilver's you can keep using the abilities.

I hope that is clear enough... If not let me know :)

heymonroe glad you figured it out.

You get haste and regenerate off of him when caged. Not the infect or flying, still a solid inclusion. I don't use him cause I already get targeted when I use this deck and have enough cheap tricks going on, lol.

DrukenReaps says... #22

Some neat things from the new set so far

Purphoros, Bronze-Blooded - gives everything haste, still a very important effect for Mairsil. "Sneak attacks" stuff out allowing for me to use the effects and then leave it in the grave until Mairsil swoops in to cage it. And indestructible, so difficult to remove.

Shadowspear - Allows me to target hexproof and destroy indestructible for way cheaper than I should be able to. I think effects like this ought to be around cmc. Still potentially useful. May or may not actually use this. I think the lifelink will be nice.

Nyx Lotus - another Gilded Lotus . though maybe not as good in this deck?

Thassa, Deep-Dwelling - an indestructible Conjurer's Closet , should be very useful.

I really want to see someone use Shauku, Endbringer in Mairsil... that's an amazing activated ability on an otherwise bad card.

DrukenReaps says... #24

Last_Laugh you had me confused for a moment because I knew it was in my physical deck. She has been very useful. Though with a mouth like that she definitely belongs in the cage only, lol.

So I was watching The Commander's Quarters and saw Zur's Weirding there. It adds an interesting control element to the game and has almost no effect on how this deck plays. I might have to experiment with it. Using it might put too much pressure on my life total though since I already don't do much to defend myself...
