i like the idea of adding Rakdos Keyrune technically, its not a creature, but it can turn into one so that Liliana of the Dark Realms 's second ability comes in even more handy. it also adds mana so Killing Wave and card:Rakdos's Return gets that extra one mana boost. i would consider removing 1 Swamp , Pillar of Flame , and 1 Killing Wave . i considered card:Rakdos's Return or Mutilate but these 2 were just better in my opinion. Killing Wave is more liable to make you lose because its more situational. so in some cases, its better than those 2 and in some cases it not. removing Killing Wave also helps against Sigarda, Host of Herons decks.

I would really have to test out Rakdos Keyrune to see how it works. I'll playtest it a bit.

Another card to add to the list of hurtful cards to this deck: Reforge the Soul may be the worst of them all. I was all set up to win with Liliana of the Dark Realms + her emblem + card:Rakdos's Return when my opponent played reforge with 0 cards in hand. Got him up to 7, and ruined my win.

I really need a sideboard to deal with all these threats. I agree with Raxin on his sideboard suggestion. But any ideas how to stop spells more then creatures?

this is a good deck..+1 from me.. I've been a big fan of discard control ever since Hypnotic Specter was still standard...Hopefully they'll be able to reprint man-lands such as Lavaclaw Reaches as it would really be awesome in this type of deck..You have to be careful though for those blue control decks that has card:Sphinx's Revelation or Redirect for obvious reasons...Slaughter Games will make it up for this weakness..

Mill is super tough on this deck. My opponent will usually have time to mill me out. 3x Elixir of Immortality to the sideboard.

Basically this is how this deck should play out: take like 5 early game damage, then board wipe and eliminate their hand. Get lots of lands, keep their hand trimmed and maybe cast a huge card:Rakdos's Return to help Shrieking Affliction along. How can I make sure this happens often? :P.

Also seems like sometimes I end the game with 2 lands, and sometimes I just draw lands over and over again.

Gruesome Discovery and Night Terrors should help you remove the key weakness from the opponents hand. Appetite for Brains and Duress too of course.

Have you considered Blasphemous Act and/or card:Devil's Play for your sideboard?

Yeah, but with the board wipes mainboard, do you think I should sideboard some more board wipes?

Maybe consider splashing just a little blue. It definitely helps with draw spells and has cards like Redirect to deal with kill spells and counterspells for everything else. Izzet Keyrune could help with discarding the unnecessary lands. How did Rakdos Keyrune work out? Not too good if its not in the deck I'm thinking...

Don't sideboard anymore board wipes. You have enough. Might want to update your description to fit your current deck

If you don't want blue, maybe Tibalt, the Fiend-Blooded will help

You have board wipes, but they answer different situations. Seeing that you still have 5 slots open, I would.

Hi, I recently used a pure black discard and went (2-0)(2-0)(2-0) in FNM I thought I'd pass some bits on it as I have since made RB and trying the multi color spin...

Ravenous Rats You say you want to keep it creatureless, but this one I think should be an exception.A discard needs sure fire discard to happen, this is cheap, 2 mana, 1 to 1 card discard. It has the potential to plink opponent a few times or be a road bump. Either way, that one card, just did 2 things which makes it a deck add.

Scroll of Griselbrand This one is another 2 mana cost that can be broken up over turns, and makes a good first turn drop. So it's a 1:1 discard and you can activate it during their turn.

Tribute to Hunger side board to go up against decks with hexproof(Giest), it's non target creature removal... weak against swarm decks powerfull against creatures that survived mutilate/killing wave

Diabolic Revelation since your looking to have mana from planeswalker, this might be a good 2x cards to add.I also used the other discard spells mentioned by others. I'd remove duress and brains... their too situational. I didn't run them as they have a good chance of not getting a card out of opponents hand. My suggestion, replace them with rats and scrolls, you pay 1 more mana, but you know you will have return from your attempt. There is also Barter in Blood 4 mana each player sacs 2 creatures, and I used i think 3 in my FNM deck.

Deck did well against creatures and since then run into several non creature blue white control that just destroyed it, since half the spells it had were creature control and just sat in my hand, hence why I moved on to trying BR variations.

Rise from the Grave i also had 2 of these just for the chance to animate their uber creatures, and I so do love using their Geist on them.

@globeadue what is your deck list? Both mono black and B/R? I've been running a black discard with some success, and have the B/R version for late game/control decks... I'm just curious, as it sounds like you had great success in your meta.

now imagine you get Slaughter Games 'd. what would you do (besides casting card:Rakdos's Return for some damage)?

Raxin says... #21

Play all the other 57 cards besides card:Rakdos's Return?

Slaughter Games on the opponents Slaughter Games ?

Duress or Night Terrors or Appetite for Brains the Slaughter Games out of the opponents hand before it gets played?

well yeah you got me. i personally have a mono black discard deck and i would do the same thing (if i had time obviously). the problem with this deck is probably the fact that you can't gain life. but removal might do the job by killing things.deck:looks-like-you-cant-do-anything

Ok, I really need to think about the above comments. Give me some time people, I may be taking this to FNM so I will definitely consider everything. I'll come out with some updates soon.

You might consider Underworld Connections over Sign in Blood so you can really dig through your deck.

December 11, 2012 8:57 p.m.

Rise from the Grave on creature cards opponents discarded?
