About a year or so ago, my good friend said to me some words that would stick with me for years (or I guess a year) to come. Those words were: "Lets make an Asian tribal Commander deck." From that day on, I've had the thought in the back of my mind, never really thinking I should do it- until now. Many of my friends are making tribal decks that we're going to present to each other next summer (so we have a lot of time to work on them), so I decided it was the perfect opportunity to make it. I have no means to offend anyone, I hope I don't offend anyone, this is simply for fun as well as I think this deck is pretty good.
The main block uses in the deck is the Khans of Tarkir block, mainly because the Jeskai had so many powerful cards and Prowess can also be used a lot. I also used cards from the Champions of Kamigawa block, such as Ninja of the Deep Hours . The deck doesn't necessarily focus on abusing the Prowess mechanic, but there are lots of cards we have that will activate it The deck doesn't run a whole lot of creatures for the sole purpose of it being a control deck, but more creatures than a normal control deck. There are certainly some creatures that are a little odd and out of place for the deck, like Higure, the Still Wind , because we aren't running a lot of samurai, and Aven Mindcensor, because, well, it just doesn't make much sense in the deck. We have a few reasons for running these cards. Reason #1: To throw our opponent off. Usually when playing a Shu Yun deck, you don't expect to see an Aven Mindcensor, but this card is actually fantastic in the deck. Reason #2: Add some spice! The deck will be a lot more fun to play when you go to draw your card and end up with something like Heartless Hidetsugu or Ghostly Prison in your hand. Of course, you're free to change it up how you like, but this is how I like it.
The goal of the deck is quite simple, really. Control. Conquer. Win. Also, cast spells to activate Prowess and swing for a lot. But mainly... Control. Conquer. Win.
I've been working on this deck for some time now, and will continue to do so. All suggestions are welcome and encouraged. If you like the deck, please remember to +1 Upvote. Thanks!
