Praetor's Council is somehow a thing. O.O I don't know if you knew about it, but HOLY SHEETS it is dumb

Praetor's Counsel is a good card, but not for this particular deck. I want everything in my graveyard to be utilized. Not to mention reanimate spells like Reanimate, Animate Dead, ect are a lot less mana than 8 for counsel.

OH NO IT'S COMPETITIVE!!! BAN HIM FROM ALL THE PLAYGROUPS!!! XD Naw, Just kidding. I believe I commented this on the previous comments string, but I wasn't sure if you saw it. Praetor's Counsel was my discovery. I'm not sure if you knew about it, but it seems to fit the theme, if not the specific deck.

I have other decks that aren't this powerful :). And I'm not saying it's a bad cars, on the contrary very powerful in the right deck. I just don't believe this is the deck to utilize it properly. I WANT things in my graveyard to utilize.

Yeah, I thought tht might be the issue. My reasoning would be that, if you were to infinite out, and have this card available, you have your whole graveyard at your disposal instantaneously. Also I found a deck that used Phage the Untouchable as the commander. It's actually really good. The guy uses phage when he wants to lose the game, or win. Torpor Orb + Whispersilk Cloak op

Also, why is wooded foothills in there? You don't run red.

I've seen that combination too I've always wondered about her as a commander, just not sure I want to go mono-colored for commander. And 9 of the ten fetches are in here because they can all search for one color. Wooded Foothills can search for a forest which includes Bayou, Tropical Island, Overgrown Tomb, Breeding Pool, and of course a basic forest. Each fetch land can search for 5 different lands which should mean I will always get my colors wen I need them.

Hey Lilbrudder whenever you get a second I was wondering if you could take a look at this version. I'm actually wondering if it's possible to have too many combos? (That a thing?) let me know if there's anything you have a question, doubt, or recommendation for.

Overall the deck looks good. I definitely believe its possible to have too many combos although I am unsure of where the sweet spot is for your deck. My all in combo deck runs six overlapping combos and that is stretching it:

1) Food chain

2) Necrotic Ooze

3) Mike and Trike

4) Deadeye navigator

5) Lab Man and tainted pact/demonic consultation.

6) Hermit druid

If I ran four horseman and ghostly flicker too the deck would be way too much of a glass cannon as I would have no way to ensure I got the combos off against determined foes. Too many combos also begin to clash with one another. If the deck is not finely tuned with overlapping synergies and a good mix of early mid and late game cards, you will find hand after hand with mismatched parts and multiple cards that have no value except as a win condition.

I would encourage you extensively playtest the deck and pay attention to what cards you are not happy to see in your opening hand (aka are not usable within the first 3-4 turns). If you can limit the number of such cards you will find an ideal configuration and find cards that check multiple boxes for you. I would also set a difficult goal for your deck in testing (ex. Averaging a turn 4 victory) and ruthlessly cut cards that keep you from that goal (you can always put them back in later if the cut was counterproductive). You don't have to play that way at your LGS but to be competitive against the best decks in the format your deck should be capable of winning out of nowhere at any point beyond turn 2-3.

Combo decks that have the color black and the color green aren't usually "glass cannons", I have to disagree there. Tutors in black, green, and blue are so plentiful that I believe a person could go infinite on turn 4 without much disruption. Might be expensive, but it's certainly possible.

ComboCrazy: All I mean by glass cannon is that most of these combos fold to a well timed counterspell or creature removal spell. The all in nature of the combos is such that you straight up lose the game if they stop you. That is why I gladly am using less combo peices so I have room for cards like Force of Will. Pheardemons Memory's Journey may be a good add if you go 0% basics

Lilbrudder I remembered that from the conversation we had on your deck. I am looking to put it in, but I want to get a solid ground for the deck before I decide which combo to base around. However, thanks for the reminder.

However being that I have Dread, is it needed? Hermit Druid won't mill the deck out.

Yeah, that's true. Counterspells are pretty effective against them. As far as losing the game if they stop you, well... That's not entirely true. My mono-blue Memnarch (not updated on tappedout rn) has been doing pretty well in EDH games even when it doesn't go infinite, even going so far as to win by milling. It's not how many combos, it's which ones. Fatestitcher, for example, is a great infinite combo piece, but it's also a mana dork, a chump, and a utility booster. Two-card infinite mana combos are extremely effective in EDH, when they can be searched for and played at instant speed, like fatestitcher. One Trololol combo for Pheardemons is Teferi, Mage of Zhalfir and Knowledge Pool. They're great cards on their own, and together they prevent your opponents from casting from their hand.

You will probably be fine but you will have to test it in order know for sure. ComboCrazy: How does that combo work? I havent slept much lately and I can't figure it out. Newborn babies do not tend to cooperate with one's sleep schedule

ComboCrazy says... #16

Lilbrudder: So you have Teferi and KP otb. Opponent tries to cast a spell from their hand, so KP's trigger goes on the stack exiling their spell. However, when they try to cast another spell exiled with the pool, teferi prevents them from doing it, because the Pool's trigger is still on the stack, and that would prevent them from casting a sorcery. So their spell gets exiled and they don't get to cast another. Fun part: You can cast their spells for them, because teferi doesn't affect you.

Sewer Nemesis seems like it would be really good, Pheardemons. Just played against a sidisi deck today and I noticed that card in there, so I thought I'd mention it.

Sewer Nemesis is a great card in itself, but no way to protect itself and no immediate effects. I'm making this deck to be more of a combo deck and competitive. Thanks for the card suggestion though.

I can't remember if either of these have been suggested but Mind Over Matter and Ever After both seem like they would work really well in here.

August 7, 2016 10:52 p.m.

Pheardemons says... #20

Ever After is expensive for what it does. Compared to Victimize, Reanimate, Shallow Grave, Dread Return, Animate Dead and Necromancy I'm not sure I want it in this deck. How d you figure Mind Over Matter is good here?

August 7, 2016 10:56 p.m.

chirz2792 says... #21

When I had a sidisi deck I often ran into a problem of having cards in my hand that I wanted in my graveyard. Mind Over Matter let me put cards into my graveyard from my hand and also had synergy with Mesmeric Orb. My sidisi deck wasn't competitive though so it might not work so well here. Just thought i'd suggest it.

Pheardemons says... #22

I did think of it that way. Interesting idea. I think it is a bit expensive for is deck, but still thanks for the suggestion.

chirz2792 says... #23

Sure. Also would you mind if I used this deck as a reference? I'm trying to build my own competitive level edh deck but I really don't know how to start.

No problem at all. Also click on Lilbrudder name and look at his Sidisi EDH decks as that was the inspiration for mine.

Awesome! Thanks that will really help. I'll definitely give that deck a look as well.
