Esper twix primer article

Esper twix with a twist.

Open to suggestions and ideas for any part of this.

Idea of the deck is to control the board more than the hand and the opponents plays. Plan is that the meta seems to be transforming to decks that are tron/eldrazi or aggro decks that beat them. This deck is more geared to beat those aggro decks and jund/junk. Hopefully stealing a couple wins vs eldrazi since they are weak to fliers, although they have a good matchup vs us.

Pros to deck Show

~Flexible deck and sideboard and can be tuned to a specific meta

~Token synergies to go wide and be aggressive or defensive

~Plainswalkers are underrated and if left alone can win games.

~Lots of cards that help your game plan but also gain you life

~Less painful mana base with use of tango lands (or whatever they are called) since deck is mainly white.

~Flexible in changing from either midrange control to fast tappout style.

Cons Show

~Weak to tron/eldrazi decks

~Same problems most "fair decks" have in modern

~Graveyard hate can destroy a lot of the deck.

~Night of Souls' Betrayal and other token hosers destroy us.

~Blood Moon

~Hard to interact with other Plainswalkers or enchantments

Jund Sideboard Plan Show

+2 Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver+1 Elspeth, Sun's Champion+1 Gideon Jura +2 Supreme Verdict

-3 Inquisition of Kozilek -2 Thoughtseize-1 Zealous Persecution

They play a better discard style than us so we take out all the discard and just play real good top end threats. Ashiok can win the game itself if not dealt with.

Junk Show

+2 Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver+1 Elspeth, Sun's Champion+1 Gideon Jura +1 Curse of Death's Hold

-3 Inquisition of Kozilek -2 Thoughtseize

Same reasoning as the jund matchup although this time we use Curse of Death's Hold to keep our lingering souls tokens alive and diminishing all theirs.

Burn Sideboard Plan Show

Cutting some of the painful cards to just control the board early and gain life. My version of esper should be able to handle burn with the so many different life gain spells main deck.

I think this will always be a bad match-up and it's not worth taking up a lot of sideboard slots to fix it. Just try and beat down as fast as you can. Good luck

This match up we take out slower cards on our end and as we won't have time to hold up mana to counter a crap spell they play and remand is just a cantrip in this matchup. We plan to tappout each turn and trade all our tokens for their low toughness creatures. If we survive to play curse then you should just win from there barring some crazy turn of events.

Zoo/Coco/Green-White hatebears/merfolk Show

+2 Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver+2 Supreme Verdict+1 Gideon Jura and +1 Elspeth, Sun's Champion or +2 Drown in Sorrow

-2 Painful Truths-1 Zealous Persecution (if deck is bunch of 2-3 toughness creatures)-1 Dragonlord Ojutai-2 Thoughtseize

Transform the deck accordingly based on the matchup but the main idea is most of these decks play really high value creatures that you can use with Ashiok. They are more aggressive than you so we switch from a slower game plan to more mid range and clog up the board. Supreme verdict lets us reset the board but still have presence because of all the plains-walkers in the deck.Slower decks run in elspeth and gideon lower toughness decks run in drown in sorrow.

Not sure how this matchup will go to be honest. We have removal if they go for the combo but most experienced chord players will most likely get spellskite first then combo out.

Plan is to take value creatures with ashiok while they play nothing but walls early and draw cards. Taking out seeker and finks as they probably just get blocked all day by walls and our life isn't as important vs this combo deck. Probably have to hold up 2 removal spells and or counters for when they try and combo out.

Infect Show

+1 Gideon Jura +1 Curse of Death's Hold+2 Dispel+2 Drown in Sorrow

-2 Remand-1 Eslpeth, knight errant-1 Gideon, Ally of Zendikar-2 Snapcaster Mage

Put in Drown in Sorrow to stall. Strip their hand through discard, and play Curse of Death's Hold or Gideon Jura to win game. Play removal end of their turn if you can.
