Maybeboard

Silver and Glitter is an artifact based deck that is built around Ensoul Artifact and All That Glitters to win the game in an aggro fashion. The deck is a aggro deck that utilizes small artifact creatures to win the game. Ensoul was one of the few decks I ever decided to build for standard because I enjoy the game play of it compared to normal aggro. So this is my take for the Pioneer format. Any help is appreciated.

Main Board

Generally speaking the main board seems to be fairly standard for this type of deck at the moment. Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated though.

Creatures:

  • Bomat Courier : Bomat Courier is a simple hasty 1/1 threat that comes down on t1. The upside is it can create some card advantage and refill your hand through the use of its ability.

  • Gingerbrute : Gingerbrute is in the same boat as courier. Although it can't create card advantage like courier, it does have an evasion ability to get around blockers.

  • Hope of Ghirapur : This card is similar to Brute and Courier because it is a 1/1 threat that comes down on t1. It doesn't have haste but does have flying, also it's second ability can be used against spell flinger decks to great effect.

  • Skilled Animator : Ensoul copies 5-8. Animator is a weaker slower ensoul, that is much easier to remove. However having copies 5-8 ensure our game plan goes smoothly, and we can always ensoul or buff our creatures.

  • Stonecoil Serpent : Serpent is a strong card in our deck with relevant abilities all around. It is able to be played at any point in the game. One benefit is that it comes into play with counters, so even after an ensoul it's counter would get added to the 5/5 ensoul effect.

Spells:

  • All That Glitters : One of our most important cards. All that Glitters is capable of producing massive creatures to attack with. It gets stronger with more artifacts or enchantments in play.

  • Ensoul Artifact : Our other build around card. Ensoul like glitter is able to create a large creature to attack with. It works especially well with Darksteel Citadel , creating a 5/5 indestructible.

  • Ghostfire Blade : A good way to buff our creatures and deal recurring cheap damage. It also allows us to bait removal to try and reduce our risk of getting two-for-oned on our enchantments.

  • The Royal Scions : The Scions are a good source of both card advantage and aggro power. Both of their +1 abilities are extremely relevant for the deck. Either by filtering our hand or by pumping and giving our creatures a form of evasion. The ultimate also has the potential to just win the game, especially in conjunction with Shrapnel Blast.

  • Shrapnel Blast : Another important card in our deck and our only main deck removal. With 5 damage it is able to deal with most planeswalkers and creatures we expect to go up against. It also can be used to burn out the opponent winning us the game.

  • Stubborn Denial : A amazing card to help protect out assets and deny our opponent theirs. With our Ensoul gameplan triggering ferocious isn't a particularly hard task to accomplish.

  • Wild Slash : A great burn spell in for the format, Slash can help clear creatures or deal damage to the face. Like Stubborn Denial triggering ferocious isn't hard to accomplish.

Side Board

With a new and unsolved meta being developed my side boarding is a little bad, this is the area I believe i need the most help with.

  • Aether Gust : A great card to deal with the large amount of green and red decks in the format. This also gives us a form of removal against some of greens largest creatures.

  • Authority of the Consuls : Consuls is used to combat creature aggro decks. The tapped effect slows down our opponents, and the life gain effect will help by buffing life for each creature our opponent plays. It also prevent hasty blocker allowing us more time to swing big.

  • Emry, Lurker of the Loch : A good card that provides good card advantage, with the possibility of cheating the 3cmc easily in this deck. This is a card to bring in against removal heavy decks. Letting us recur our creatures.

  • Fragmentize : A way to deal with most annoying artifacts and enchantments. Fragmentize unfortunately can't hit higher cost, and depending on the offenders it might need to get switched out for Wear/Tear.

  • Grafdigger's Cage : A way to deal with graveyard decks mostly, while contributing to the artifact count.

  • Karn, Scion of Urza : A way to create card advantage with his plus and minus ability. As well as his ultimate can create a "Glitter Thopter" a token that can grow to absurd sizes in this deck. The reason this isn't in the main board is because it is more of a midrange card and has a high CMC for our low land count. However we have it in our sideboard for a way to go long against decks we would have to.

  • Phyrexian Revoker : Another Pithing Needle but one that can turn off mana abilities, and act as an attacker or blocker. It can be more easily removed then Pithing Needle though.

  • Pithing Needle : A way to deal with planeswalkers or other activated abilities.

Maybe Board

These are cards I was considering for the deck but ultimately decided to cut. They might replace a card in either board depending on meta and how the current list performs.

  • Abrade : Creature and artifact removal, mostly to be used as extra removal for creatures.

  • Boros Charm : A strong utility spell that can protect, burn and give double strike. However our deck is currently packed as it is and we generally won't have mana open for the protection. Possible inclusion depending on if the burn will be handy, or if board wipes become more popular.

  • Built to Smash : A good pump card for our artifact based deck, pretty much all creatures will turn on the cards trample effect. With the Roayal Scions in the deck and most of our creatures having evasion already, it currently is redundant and unneeded.

  • Deafening Silence : Deafening Silence is another card that seems to be fairly good. It stops spell based decks and can deal with Phoenix and TiTi. But it also has a little backlash on our game plan.

  • Ghirapur AEther Grid : A card meant to deal incremental burn damage on EoT or as a way to remove small creatures.

  • Glass Casket : An artifact that can be used for removal, with the plus side of exiling. Does have some limits on targets and it is not instant speed.

  • Heart of Kiran : A possible card to include as a strong ensoul target. With the Royal Scions in our main and Karn in our side, Kirans secondary ability can also be used instead of Crew. However we don't play many copies of our planeswalkers, so without an Ensoul Kiran is a dead card.

  • Metallic Rebuke : A good sideboard option to stop threats from entering the battlefield or, to prevent removal/burn spells from destroying the board state. However this is more of a aggro deck so for the time being this is being left out.

  • Ornithopter : Thopter is a free artifact that is a great card to buff with it's built in evasion. It also is a good sacrificial piece for some of our other cards. However in testing it has been pretty meh.

  • Sai, Master Thopterist : Sai would be included in the deck to create some card advantage, and a go wide strategy. The thopter tokens also help make All that Glitters more effective. Sai also has value in being able to use excess artifacts to draw some cards. However he has been a bit slow in testing for the aggro strategy.

  • Spell Pierce : Same case as Rebuke but has a smaller tax effect and doesn't need artifacts to play at 1 mana.

  • Steel Overseer : Included in the deck in order to consistently buff our creature. Overseer can create a snowball effect that can make our army of small creatures into a much bigger threat. Currently Overseer is a bit too slow for the deck.

  • Temur Battle Rage : A good finisher that can double any attack and get the damage through the blockers. This card pairs well with the aggro deck. But just like Built to Smash, we don't need any more evasion right now.

  • Wear / Tear : A possible replacement for Fragmentize depending on the problem artifacts/enchantments in the format. Slightly higher costed then the aforementioned card.

Anyways that's my interpretation for Jeskai Ensoul. Any feedback is greatly appreciated. Thanks for checking it out!
