I set out with the goal of making a solid elf ramp deck. Upon further research I found that there were already numerous decks of this nature that had been worked to near perfection. That, along with the average price tag on these decks led me to get a bit more creative. I wanted to keep the deck primarily green, and splashing blue allowed me to do this as well as add a bit of blue oriented capability to the deck.
What the deck is made to do:
Fathom Mage, the only non-elf creature in the deck is the ultimate win-con of the deck. Using the slew of counter potential provided by Ezuri, Renegade Leader, Elvish Archdruid,
Titanic Growth
, and Simic Charm, she can ensue massive card draw. Using
Simic Guildmage
, you can shift these counters onto Fathom Mage for a measly 2 mana card draw. Along with this massive card draw, using Arbor Elf to untap any land enchanted with Utopia Sprawl, along with Elvish Archdruid and Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx, massive amounts of mana can be produced early on to cast any creatures or spells drawn, furthering your devotion and allowing for even more card draw.Genesis Wave is a HUGE bomb. Cast this badboy turn 4 or 5 for a CRAZY X value, and expect on a slew of creatures along with more mana sources to be put into play.
Ideal Game [TURN 4/5 WIN]:
Turn 1: Forest into Arbor Elf
Turn 2:
Simic Guildgate
, untap with Arbor Elf into Coiling Oracle, reveal and play Forest into Utopia Sprawl on one of the forests, choosing green.
Turn 3: Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx, then Elvish Visionary or another Coiling Oracle, untap Utopia Sprawled source with Arbor Elf and play Elvish Archdruid. If additional land was fetched by 2nd Coiling Oracle, tap Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx to play Fathom Mage and/or second Utopia Sprawl on already enchanted land or Arbor Elf OR second Elvish Archdruid or Ezuri, Renegade Leader along with second Utopia Sprawl and
Simic Guildmage
or additional Elvish Visionary or Arbor Elf or Coiling Oracle. whew...
Turn 4: Using Ezuri, Renegade Leader's ability in conjunction with
Simic Guildmage
's ability, along with your massive mana production from Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx and your Arbor Elf(s) as well as Elvish Archdruid, allows you to give insane amounts of counters to Fathom Mage, subsequently giving you massive card draw. By the end of the turn, you will have a crazy hand size, a slew of
Titanic Growth
s and Simic Charms (For further card draw, buffing, hexproof for all creatures, or to stop your super-powered Fathom Mage from being chump blocked by returning blocker(s) to your opponent's hand). If your armada of Elves and super buff Fathom Mage isn't enough to win you the game, you probably didn't get the right draws and should have mulliganed. ADDITIONALLY: On turn 4 you could instead lead with a land and tap all your mana to play Genesis Wave for an insane X value. Basically over half your permanent base will be on the board now, and as long as you have a Simic Charm, you can wait till turn 5 to like before, add a crap-ton of +1/+1's to Fathom Mage, and then swing for apocalyptic damage.
While the deck could be made better with higher costing cards like Primeval Titan or Garruk Wildspeaker, they just cost too much for the budget goal. Side and Maybeboard currently being used to test occasionally needed removal.
