Simic, yes. Viable? Still working on that.

1ofs as you may already know equal inconsistency. I'm sorry but that is your first step. Question....Do you want power, control, defense/stall, or a mix thereof? Go with what you feel and we can work from there.

yes yes yes

First. This was a deck builder's toolkit build.

@ BFG what I think this deck shows the most promise in right now is manna ramp or control, or possibly even both.

I think with all those ramp guys you have, you can afford to drop some more expensive creatures. I'd suggest some [aqueous form] to make sure you're scrying to what you need. I don't think you need the axebane. By turn 3 you should be dropping a decent 4 drop dude, or passing to flash in your briar pack alpha. get more briar packs. Also unblockable is nice, but it usually means you're trading off for more control. And if you're playing your control spells, you're not getting down your big creatures. I'd try the deck both ways and see what works for you.

I love [howl of the night pack] but you should combo that with [raised by wolves] and use the briar pack alpha to mess with people's heads.

Don't think you need tome scour, ranger's path, opportunity. brindle boar, or archeomancer. [mnemonic wall] is more expensive, but he's a wall if you're trying to go defensive. Numbus swimmer is decent. way of the thief is to expensive for what it's doing, and is too conditional. get [feral invocation] and aqueous form. [pin to the earth] is cheap too.

I have a deck that is also kind of lacking clear direction, but you should check it out for ideas. http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/horizon-prophet/

I am actually super stoked on the wolf thingy and I may make one in the future.

Alright. What I got from that was keep my ramp factor where it is and add in more wolves to replace the mill cards. Remove most of my expensive enchantments and try to zero in on control type and token spells.

Honestly, and I am not trying to sound like a total jerk but neither. For example, let's say you are going to try the "Ramp" path. You only have 2 creatures, 3 if you count Gatecreeper Vine , that ramp which are Elvish Mystic (a tried and true ramp master) and your Axebane Guardian who by himself is not anything special. For 1 less colorless mana you can use Sylvan Caryatid which also has hexproof :/ As far as control, there are a few positives. Disperse and Frost Breath are solid and Paralyzing Grasp is a pretty sweet common but then with those and your few others, you are looking at a total of 8 bouncy/destroy/tap spells that sort of clash with each other.

then I'll just focus on Ramp. It's not like this is in any way the final version of this deck. Far from it.

Mightiyz, I'd also like to add an Archetype of Imagination or two to give all those wolves flying and take it away from everyone else.

May 7, 2014 10:13 p.m.

mightyz says... #9

archetype of imagination is a bomb for sure. I like that idea a lot. also, to make your ublockables scary, use Phytoburst or Mischief and Mayhem

May 7, 2014 10:19 p.m.

Derpnaster says... #10

I'm gonna need a list then so I can remember all these cards when I go shopping next.

May 7, 2014 10:24 p.m.

BFG says... #11

Since you are going ramp side (Good Choice) try to get your hands on another Master Biomancer or 2 if you can. Potential 4/4 flying wolves could be fun. Also, it would make your Archetype of Imagination more difficult to remove.

May 7, 2014 10:46 p.m.

Derpnaster says... #12

Along with that I'm getting an Archetype of Courage as well to make it even harder to remove.

May 7, 2014 10:53 p.m.

mightyz says... #13

do you mean Archetype of Endurance ?

May 7, 2014 10:59 p.m.

Derpnaster says... #14

Yeah, I currently have my Boros deck on the brain and I got them mixed up but yeah. Just think of it. 4/4 Flying, Hexproof wolves who can be buffed up to 7/7 or higher with Giant Growth and Master Biomancer for at least one turn. Then again it's only one turn you'll need to end the game with that many super flying wolves.

May 7, 2014 11:03 p.m.

BFG says... #15

Just be careful not to outreach your mana before you even begin. In my opinion, Archetype of Endurance is the best one out of the 5 but its cost makes it difficult to cast consistently.....

May 8, 2014 6:29 a.m.

Derpnaster says... #16

Yeah that could be an issue. But if I could find a ramp card that could for the late game then it shouldn't be too hard.

May 8, 2014 7:09 a.m.

BFG says... #17

If you are going for ramp, generally you won't really want a late game. Take a look at A Ramp to the Horizon. We are talking like a potential turn 3 Worldspine Wurm . Remember, the longer you give your opponent to setup, the less chance you have of winning.

May 8, 2014 9:50 a.m.

mightyz says... #18

bfg in your deck, how do you get a t3 worldspine?

I enjoy helping out other people playing Simic, but alas, i'm far too tired.

So, here is my deck I run at my LGS. I've won first and second place many times with it.

Best of luck with your quest!

God Hand:

Turn 1 Forest followed up with an Elvish Mystic .

Turn 2 another Forest or any untapped land followed by another mystic and Sylvan Caryatid

Turn 3 any untapped land and then BOOM Garruk, Caller of Beasts ....-3 and show em your Worldspine Wurm !

So in order to make thus easier. Could y'all post a list of cards to get, cards to keep, and cards in need to remove. I can see a few that I will but others I'm not so certain of just yet.

apdude says... #22

Your ramp is in Green so these are Elvish Mystic , Sylvan Caryatid , Kiora's Follower , Voyaging Satyr , Golden Hind , this way you don't need cards like Seek the Horizon . The blue should be for your removal/evasiveness, and allows you to access Simic cards like the Biomancer. If you are ramping you could probably overload a Cyclonic Rift which is just better than Disperse . Prophet of Kruphix is a good card in a ramp-control / makes all your creatures have flash which with evolve creatures could be really neat.

No need for Tome Scour , and no tokens means Druid's Deliverance won't be that good. Aerial Predation is a sideboard card against fliers otherwise it is dead.

May 8, 2014 3:45 p.m.

Derpnaster says... #23

Great. However I'll keep Druid's Deliverance since it works with Howl of the Night Pack which is a token gaining card and with a massive green ramp would enable me to flood the field with wolves which start at 2/2 then get buffed by Master Biomancer

May 8, 2014 4:09 p.m.

16smith says... #24

Yes you're ramping but you're running a different kind of ramp. One based on mana dorks and not massive amounts of lands on the field. Howl of the Night Pack is good in the second ramp type I mentioned. My ramp deck is of the second type of ramp. Big Stompy Gigantic Leviathan & A Few Tiny Things. For another idea, the maybe-board is my considering making a devotion ramp deck.

Derpnaster says... #25

I'm currently trying to balance out the colors in the deck but I think I can get more forests on the field if I use the mystics to help pull more forests onto the field. The big question is what cards work best for pulling forests onto the field or into my hand to set up for the Night Pack to drop in and dominate.
