Enchantment (4)

Artifact (1)

After fiddling around trying to make UR Artifacts work, I've found that the mono U route seems to work much better.

This deck ended up getting 2nd place at its first FNM, going 3-1-1 in the prelims.

Round 1 - vs. Mono-Black Devotion. 2 - 1 overall.

Lost game one to a Nightvale Specter, but came back win a ~ turn 20 game 2 off the back of 2 Military Intelligence and two very well timed Curse of the Swine keeping my opponent off of devotion for his Gray Merchant of Asphodel. Game 3 was won very quickly after I mulled down to 5 into a hand with a Darksteel Citadel, and Island, and an Ensoul Artifact, and won on that alone.

Round 2 - vs. Brave Naya. 2 - 0.

This deck was just too fast for Naya, and won the damage race. Hands of Binding that was then in the sideboard to a lot of work to help win the race.

Round 3 - vs. Selesnya Aggro. 2 - 1.

Lost one of the games to a Dictate of Heliod alpha strike after the deck stalled out, but otherwise repeated Ensoul Artifact + evasion was too much for Selesnya.

Round 4 - vs. Jund Walkers. 1 - 2.

Probably the deck's worst match up. Won game one, but lost games two and three to a barrage of Anger of the Gods, Magma Spray, Abrupt Decay, and so forth.

Round 5 - vs. RG Monsters. 0-0-1.

We IDed into the Finals.

Top 8 vs. Selesnya Aggro. 2-1.

The same deck as before and pretty much the same story. My opponent lost one of the games due to keeping an overly greedy hand just because it had Selesnya Charms to deal with Ensoul Artifact and got colour screwed.

Top 4 vs. Green Devotion splashing blue. 2 - 0.

Once again out raced the creature deck, with help in game two from Hands of Binding. I had amazing hands both games, with a god hand game one that swung for a hasty 7 damage on turn 2.

Top 2 vs. 5(4?) colour Slivers. 0 - 2.

A turn one Gale Rider Sliver followed by a turn two Striking Sliver is awful for this deck. Thorncaster Sliver + Venom Sliver just wipes the board. Eugh. Didn't see a single Ensoul Artifact. Opened a Thassa and an Elspeth in the prize packs in consolation.

Conclusions:

Overall the deck did fairly well. It seems like it shines through the best against other creature decks, but suffers against a lot removal, especially Abrupt Decay and sweepers. Thus I'm changing the sideboard to deal more with removal and control, and bringing the Hands of Binding into the main deck after how well they worked against most creature based decks.

Also, one free creature, Ornithopter, is just not enough to support both Faerie Impostor, Quickling, and Illusory Angel. If there were another free creature in standard, the deck run a lot smoother.
