Silence? And/or Vapor Snag? Remand would also be good. Tempo type cards will shine in this deck, so I'd run stuff like that. Also, if you can, get some Path to Exile. That's one of the best kill spells in Modern. I'd get rid of the Render Silent and some copies of Negate for those. Finally, have you thought about Spectral Flight? It'd be better than Ghostly Touch. And maybe add a Silverblade Paladin.

I'm not too big on Silence but it is something I will think about. I have Vapor Snag's but I wasn't sure if I had enough creature lock down between Ghostly Touch and Gideon's Lawkeeper. I do have some Path to Exile's they are just in a different deck. I do suppose I would be using this deck more often so I'll probably add them here. So you think I should just cut the hard counters (maybe side them for combo decks)? I have been wanting Remand's forever and will probably splurge for them. I see where you are going with the Spectral Flight and Silverblade Paladin and I like it. Overall you offer some great advice and I will be making some changes when I get the chance?

Wingcrafter and Tandem Lookout are weak in this deck. To replace them I would recommend adding in Spell Pierce, Dispel, or one of the other cheap spells in the sideboard except for Silence. Silence is a proactive spell, so sometimes you will cast it and your opponent wouldn't have done anything anyways and they still can cast their spell next turn.

What do you think of Stubborn Denial? It shouldn't be too hard to get Gideon's Avenger to 4 or greater power.

Brionac says... #5

Kytheon's Irregulars is a really flavorful Gideon card that also taps creatures.

I don't think Stubborn Denial is very good here. If you don't have a Gideon's Avenger, which will happen, it's difficult to find a time when it will be relevant.

Chino90 thank you for the suggestions.

I sorta like Swift Reckoning and will keep it in mind. My only thing with it is that if I do not have a LawKeeper or Irregular out it becomes unreliable as an effective kill spell, and after adding their activated ability costs, a 2cc kill spell (that I will unreliably be able to cast at instant speed) becomes a 3 or 4cc spell.

Grasp of the Hieromancer is decent, but I had Ghostly Touch in here before and feel it would be more effective if I did use one of them again.

Celestial Flare.... I don't really want to give my opponent the choice of which to sac. I suppose it could be a decent sideboard card when I get to that.

That's an interesting choice. Its like a poor mans Cryptic Command. I'm a little iffy on it. The first option is almost irrelevant being that I only have 2 creatures/7 targets for the first option. Is the 4 life on turn 4 really worth it. I mean, won't I be dead to burn already? Do I really need the countering of a creature spell? If I were to test, what should I remove? Gideon Jura?

I would say some Ordeal of Thassa and/or Spectral Flight.

I myself play UW midrange in modern and like it quite a bit. Before I begin, would you mind telling me just how competitive you want this to be? I'm ok with helping you draft a more janky flavor build or to make this as good as it can be on a budget.

I more or less just want it to be fun. I want it to hold its on on the off chance I get to take it to my LGS on modern night, bit its mostly going to be used amongst friends.

Fair enough. What I fear for you is that putting in creatures that revolve around tapping things will make your deck very weak if your opponent makes lots of small bodies or doesn't play creatures. If you're swapping to Elspeth, I recommend you find some efficient creatures you like on a low curve.

Since you said you like Pride of the Clouds, maybe get a playset, then get 4x Judge's Familiar, 4x Squadron Hawk, 4x Esper Stormblade, and maybe 2x Serra Avenger. That gives you nice creatures to work with. Add in things like 4x Favorable Winds and then go for control type cards. Maybe a playset of paths and mana leaks. A few copies of detention sphere wouldn't hurt. Remand is also a solid option.

I'm actually not sold on either Elspeth or Gideon in this deck. If you want a more threatening card than some of your other things, you have access to Restoration Angel and Dragonlord Ojutai.

If at all possible, get some fetches. You also really ought to consider 2 or 3 copies of Tec Edge or Ghost Quarter. If you don't like those, you can maybe put in one Moorland Haunt.

I like it and will update a prototype here for the newer version. You pretty much echoed my thoughts with going the flyer route. I like Esper Stormblade. Didn't know it existed haha. What are your thoughts on keeping Sun Titan and with the buffs and all flyers I agree that Gideon and Elspeth do not fit here and will go with Resto. I have two or three of here. If I can get ahold of fetches they will definitely make it in here. But itd have to be through trade. Not spending that much on cards anymore.

I've run one Sun Titan in my deck for the longest time but have now swapped him out for Ojutai. He's hard to cast for me and I run a far more control-orientated build. I run 24 lands. You should probably have fewer. It sounds like you're unlikely to get to that much mana.

TheDevicer, the updated prototype is up and running. Opinions?

Arvail says... #20

You don't want the mana demands that lingering souls brings you. I'd rather have Ojutai's Command, Spell Snare, or Midnight Haunting.

October 4, 2015 12:57 p.m.

Rocknj06 says... #21

I forgot the command. I also want the two Lingering or Midnight haunting. I can drop a Resto for one, but what for the second command? Or just go a singleton Lingering/Midnight.

I know that Lingering causes the Splash for black and won't be as reliable. But its the same cost as haunting. Is the instant v. Sorcery that important that it makes it the better choice? Or is the off chance of recasting the souls better? That's just what's going through my head now.

Going tri-color splash without fetches and shocks is hard. If you want to do it, you need at least one watery grave.

Maybe you can find some ideas here:

Thanks Mtg_mill. I took a look and what stuck out to me was Illusory Angel and the possible addition of 1 Medomai the Ageless
