Hate to break it to you, but you can't use Vraska as a commander. Only certain types of planeswalkers can be used, and will say at the bottom that it can be used as a commander.

Might I recommend Hapatra, Vizier of Poisons or Nath of the Gilt-Leaf if you want to do a token type deck. Even Skullbriar, the Walking Grave if you want a aggro type deck.

@Themysteriousone Well I fell stupid... Completely forget that your commander had to be a legendary * facepalm * . Thanks for the heads up before I tried playing a real game with it and looking very stupid.

Skullbriar, the Walking Grave definitely works with the trample theme. I think I'll grab one of him but still keep Vraska the Unseen in the deck. Time to research some cards with counter synergy.

If you want to make a Skullbrair deck I have one you can look off of for some ideas it's a competitive deck but if you want it fro casual play just replace some cards.

@ulrich48 No problem, just take note you can't use ANY planeswalkers unless it says they can be used as a commander even if they're legendary. Basically only four planeswalkers can be used as a commander. Also if you want you could also check out my deck a Jarad Golgari deck. It's different from what you're working with, but might give some ideas since both share color types.

Thanks for all the help Themysteriousone & SkullOfPoison, I'm definitely getting some cards from your Threats of Golgari deck SkullOfPoison. I'm going to try to keep my trample theme and I'm also thinking of of adding Varolz, the Scar-Striped and Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord as well. I'll update this deck when I get all the cards and have time to put it all together.

If trample is your theme then for sure go Varolz, the Scar-Striped to help pump up your creatures. Also I would highly recommend Brawn for easy trample gain for all creatures.

Ok, here is my updated deck.

How far do you want to go budget wise? I'll have a look at it tomorrow, but I would imagine Skullbriar would work really good as a pseudo voltron deck ... maybe Bear Umbra ??

oh, and because this is a +1/+1 counter deck add Tuskguard Captain for trample or Brawn if you have some way to sac him or put him in the graveyard. Also Hardened Scales is a must to help your commander get bigger faster and for one drop it's very good.

I wanted to try and keep it fairly budget, but... so. many. good. cards. I think I'll pick up a few (all) of those when my budget allows, thanks. I can definitely say that your and SkullOfPoison's advice has really made a difference with this deck's power level (and cost, lol. But that's usually the trade off for better cards).

What do you think of Silent Arbiter with this deck? It could help protect my commander but I don't know if the downside of keeping my heavies from hitting also would be worth it? Maybe for in case I'm playing against a aggro deck?

December 27, 2017 1:20 a.m.

It's going to come off how you want to build the deck. If you go voltron then yeah it's really good, and helps protect you once your commander is tapped.

If I built this deck I think I would cut down on creatures and add equipment, enchatnments and auras. Creatures only that help benefit your commander stuff that has proliferate or boaster stuff like that.

Remove Druid of the Cowl and just add a Birds of Paradise

I don't know why it's saying that Azor's Gateway and Path of Discovery aren't Commander legal.

They just haven't added it to the system yet. It's the same with my deck as well. Eventually they will fix it.

Don't see it on your list, but Brawn would be great to give your commander the needed trample.

Okay the site is seriously bugging out, my update isn't displaying properly and no matter how many times I fix it and hit "save", it keeps the old version. So I'll try finish editing my deck info some more later when the site isn't so buggy. (It's probably just a lot of people on the site at once.)

I used to have Brawn in the deck but I took it out because it was always a dead card for me. I have no way of just discarding it/putting it straight into the grave from my hand or library; and when it's in my hand there is always a better card(s) for me to play then it.

February 9, 2018 10:53 a.m.

True that's why I took it out of my Jarad deck, and Rancor will work just as fine.

Nim Deathmantle and Ashnod's Altar should be considered as well.

Others to look at -- Mer-Ek Nightblade and have you looked into any of the cards that came out with the new Explorer mechanic? Could help as well.

February 12, 2018 3:24 a.m.

Also if you want to budget and don't want to get a Darksteel Plate think about General's Kabuto

February 12, 2018 3:27 a.m.

Mer-Ek Nightblade seems interesting, and I would go with General's Kabuto but it would give him shroud. This deck is built around using spells (enchantments, equipments, etc) on Skullbriar, the Walking Grave to boast him up fast and kill with commander damage (I usually kill on turn 4-6) before my opponent can build up enough to stop him.
