Introduction

Why saprolings? Because they are first tribal deck I fell in love with when I started to play MTG on arena 2018 closed beta. Also saprolings reminds me of flood from Halo 3 which is one of my favorite games ever. So let's get into the combos that this deck uses to make opponents to suffocate in spores.

Combo #1 Ashnod's Altar + Parallel Lives + Slimefoot, the Stowaway + 2 things to sacrifice or mana open = infinite damage. Sacrifice 2 things to generate mana or tap your lands and then make a saproling with Slimefoot, the Stowaways ability and thanks to Parallel Lives you get 2 saprolings that you can sacrifice to generate mana and continue with the loop to kill your opponents.

Combo #2 Sacrifice outlet + Zulaport Cutthroat / Slimefoot, the Stowaway + Sporemound + Life and Limb + play any land or get saproling token into play = infinite damage. Thanks to life and limb making saprolings become lands and creatures at same time we get to trigger Sporemound landfall trigger to get new saproling that trigger Sporemound again and again... Basically you get infinite tokens to sacrifice. You can actually use this loop with just Sporemound and Life and Limbto force draw a game because the triggers are never ending and if no one has removal to either of the pieces the game can't continue.

Recently took out Sporemound in favor of Doubling Season because it works as redundancy to combo 1. This is still fine and usable combo but found myself not using it too much.

Combo #3 Ashnod's Altar + Zulaport Cutthroat / Slimefoot, the Stowaway + Jade Mage + Pitiless Plunderer + or 1 thing to sacrifice = infinite damage. Similiar to combo #1 combination of Ashnod's Altar and Pitiless Plunderer lets us gain for each things we sacrifice and use that mana to make saproling with Jade Mage to create infinite loop.

Combo #4 Slimefoot, the Stowaway + Any sacrifice outlet with 0 mana cost or that can sacrifice multiple things at once + Parallel Lives + Pitiless Plunderer = dying saprolings generates 2 treasure tokens and saproling tokens comes in as doubles so 4 mana to create 2 saprolings to generate 4 treasures and loop away.

Combo #5 Earthcraft with basic land that is enchanted and can generate 2-4 mana and combine it with other mana engines such as Ashnod's Altar, Phyrexian Altar or Pitiless Plunderer and sacrifice outlets. Also Earth craft just turns any creature and token you can generate into rituals.

Card draw combo Slimefoot, the Stowaway + Keen Sense/Snake Umbra + dead saproling = you get to draw card for each opponent you have because Slimefoot, the Stowaway triggers deals damage to each opponent instead of causing life loss like Zulaport Cutthroat which triggers those auras for each individual damage. (ex. 1 saproling in 4 player game would mean you get to draw 3 cards!!!)

You can also use some combinations of Slimefoot, the Stowaway or Jade Mage abilities, Pitiless Plunderer, Utopia Mycon, Ashnod's Altar or Phyrexian Altar to generate diminishing loops to deal alots of damage. For example with just Slimefoot, the Stowaway and Ashnod's Altar you can get half of the mana back you use in sacrifing your saprolings to get almost twice the amount of damage of your starting saprolings. More in next section.

S=number of saprolings to start diminishing loops

Slimefoot, the Stowaway + Ashnod's Altar or Utopia Mycon/Phyrexian Altar + Pitiless Plunderer = 2*S-1 damage (ex. your 10 saprolings would generate 19 damage with this setup).

Slimefoot, the Stowaway + Phyrexian Altar / Utopia Mycon = 1.25*S --> always round down to nearest whole number (ex. 10 saprolings would mean 12.5 which is 12 damage).

Slimefoot, the Stowaway + Pitiless Plunderer + Ashnod's Altar = 4*S-3 damage (ex. 10 saprolings would deal 37 damage).

Slimefoot, the Stowaway / Zulaport Cutthroat + Jade Mage + Pitiless Plunderer + Phyrexian Altar / Utopia Mycon = 3*S-2 damage (ex. 10 saprolings would deal 28 damage). If you have Zulaport Cutthroat on board with Slimefoot, the Stowaway you can just double the end results.

Pitiless Plunderer is also great with cards like Evolutionary Leap or Krav, the Unredeemed to get activation costs back. On same note Fungal Plots can be used with some of these sacrifice outlet and mana pay offs to exile your graveyard from creatures to sacrifice for value.

Any basic forest to Gaea's Cradle but this is out of most peoples budget but you could proxy it if your gaming group allows it. Also because this kind of effect is huge in deck like this we use flip card Itlimoc, Cradle of the Sun as a budget version.

Add Gaea's Blessing to your deck if you meta has a lot of wheel or mill decks. This allows you to avoid situations where all your combo pieces are in graveyard. Also nice addition to save combo pieces from graveyard would be Noxious Revival but I don't own one. Karn, the Great Creator is also nice addition if you find you Ashnod's Altar in exile a lot of times.

Chord of Calling for instant speed convoke tutoring.

Imperial Seal and Vampiric Tutor for consistency.

Thanks for having interest in this deck and please leave comments if you have questions or suggestions.

Updates Add

-1 road of return

+1 Fungal Rebirth

Fungal rebirth does same things as Road of return most of the time for 1 more mana but at instant speed, while also giving the potential to make some tokens pretty easily. All around should be upgrade for most cases.
