One of the first Magic cards I saw was Alesha, Who Smiles at Death. I didn’t know much about the game at the time, but my boyfriend told me that I might like her. After I read “The Truth of Names”, I felt inspired and probably spent a little too much money making this deck. Smizing at Death is all about Aristocrats, building up an army of tokens, and stripping down enemy defenses. Charge headlong into battle and smize until your eyes bleed!

Alesha is great at bringing creatures back from the graveyard at low cost. This deck is built around quickly getting creatures into your graveyard, and using it like a toolbox. Pick the right creature for the turn, bring them back, let them die, & repeat that cycle.

Because Alesha can only bring back one creature per turn, this deck is filled with impactful “enter the battlefield” & death triggers. Creatures brought back by Alesha come in swinging, so there is a decent chance that they will die during combat. If they don’t, we can always sacrifice them later to repeat the cycle of life & death. As an example, reanimating Karmic Guide with Alesha will bring another creature back, & the Guide automatically sacrifices itself at the beginning of your next turn.

Redcap Combo

With Murderous Redcap + Anafenza, Kin-Tree Spirit and/or Serra Redeemer + any free sac outlet on the battlefield...

1. Sacrifice Redcap with whatever free sac outlet you have out
2. Death triggers!
3. Redcap comes back with a -1/-1 counter from Persist
4. ETB triggers!
5. Resolve the Anafenza/Redeemer ETB trigger first, putting +1/+1 counter(s) on Redcap. The -1/-1 counter from Persist gets canceled out and removed. (Note: if you have both Anafenza and Redeemer out, resolve Anafenza first.)
6. Resolve the Redcap ETB trigger, dealing 2 damage to any target. (Note: it's 3 damage if using Redeemer, 4 damage if using both!)
7. Repeat from step 1 until you win. :)
