Explain Yourself!
So, if you're playing devotion, there's one question you have to ask yourself:
Burning-Tree Emissary or no?
The deal is, if you can't use that , then she's just a bear. But if you can, then you're rewarded with additional tempo. In this deck, it's intended as a turn 3 play, followed by Kitchen Finks or
Boggart Ram-Gang
. If, however, you happened to play Aether Vial t1, then you can flash her in and activate Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx off of her etb mana.
As for the Spirit Avatars, I feel like they have a legitimate place in Devotion. They all dodge Abrupt Decay and Lightning Bolt-- Well, play Overbeing of Myth with discretion-- and they all offer value. Deus of Calamity is a straight-up boss, an evasive 6/6 body that can destroy lands, setting your opponent backpedaling while removing their ability to recover.
Deity of Scars
is pretty resilient, and offers a massive body for your opponent to deal with. Overbeing of Myth synergizes well with Life's Legacy, and drawing two cards a turn often means two threats a turn.
You might question Courser of Kruphix in an aggro deck-- or, I mean, you might not-- but I feel that she's necessary to reduce critical late-game land flooding. The fact that she improves the game 1 burn matchup helps. :)
Finally, Rancor Legacy. With eight creatures that recur (
Strangleroot Geist
and Kitchen Finks), Life's Legacy can refill your hand after unloading it with all the fast mana. Add Rancor to the mix, and you'e cooking with Crisco.
TL;DR and additional Synergies
Aether Vial
+
Burning-Tree Emissary
: Essentially free mana to spend on more beaters or a Nykthos activation.
Life's Legacy
+
Strangleroot Geist
/Kitchen Finks
+
Life's Legacy
: Refill your hand without losing any tempo.
Life's Legacy
+
Rancor
: Two extra cards, and you'll get the Rancor back, guaranteeing value out the wild zoo (no pun intended).
Kitchen Finks + Oran-Rief, the Vastwood
: You can theoretically keep the Finks alive forever by getting rid of the --1/-1 counter with a +1/+1 counter every time it dies.
Avatar of the Resolute
+
Oran-Rief, the Vastwood
: Big, tramply goodness.
Aspect of Hydra
+
Rancor
: A huge power boost always loves evasion. Aspect is practically
Tribal Flames
in this deck.

+
Deus of Calamity
: You know you want to.
