Have you ever seen cartoons from the 80s and 90s? Thundercats, He-Man, Street Sharks, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Pirates of Dark Water, hell Power Rangers!? No? Then you're most likely woefully underprepared for the ridiculously daft nefarious elaborate plans from the evil villain badguy Sol'kanar the Swamp King contained in this deck.

This is a work in progress build of Sol'kanar the Swamp King focused on evasion, card draw and discard. I had the idea recently after seeing Vela the Night-Clad I love the link between art, flavour and gameplay mechanics on that card and started to build around her as a commander. Something seemed like it was missing and Dimir didn't seem to lend itself as a colour identity to really punish through combat as much as I would have liked, so I decided on Grixis to give a bit more options. Nicol Bolas or Sol'kanar the Swamp King seemed pretty similar interchangeable commanders, and I went with the even jankier option. I managed to pick up both of them in a retro game store's bargain card bin when I was on holiday in Copenhagen and I'm looking forward to trying to figure out an affordable build for each of these cards.

Main themes for the deck

  • Evasion (Swampwalk, Fear, Intimidate, Menace or straight up unblockable )

  • Punishing for hitting a player (either discarding cards, drawing cards with Coastal Piracy or finishing with Commander damage )

  • Lifegain this is only a minor theme, but playing off Sol'Kanar's ability, I have included some lifelands)

Definitely open to suggestions on some cards that would work well, as I'm really new to both Commander and Grixis as a colour combination.
