Commander / EDH Budget Burn Mono-Red Spellslinger

Shamplade

Maybeboard

"What kind of madman, in the format with huge mana bases and three opponents with 40 life each, tries to build mono-red burn?"

Well, there's at least one of them right here...

But why?

Red is the least played color in my beginner playgroup, so I thought I would give it some love. Burning my opponents to death through spamming spells and floating effects sets it apart from the more creature-based builds we already have, and Torbran, Thane of Red Fell is an amazing budget option.

Going mono-color while building on a budget is also great because I hardly have to worry about an expensive mana base; basic lands here we come!

Burn Life Totals, Not Friendships

In the spirit of fun I've skipped over cards that punish basic play-that means you, Manabarbs. Cards like Immolation Shaman and Harsh Mentor are still OK as they trigger much less often and punish opponents for gaining actual advantage, and something like Sulfuric Vortex also hurts myself.

Deck Overview

Sort by custom for these categories! I won't go through each and every card in the deck but I've explained my favorite/niche choices.

Captain Lannery Storm: mana dork with haste (and 4 power while Torbran is up). Is this still mono-red?

Vance's Blasting Cannons  : "So anyways, I started blasting". This card is solid card advantage and can become precious land ramp after a turn or two.

Bag of Holding: Cathartic Reunion: 1R, draw three cards.

Pirate's Pillage: it's definitely overcosted at first, but banking mana for explosive turns or wrath effects is really fun, not to mention very effective vs. out-of-control boards. Also incidental synergy with Reckless Fireweaver.

Now we're really getting started. 11 boardwipes might be overkill, but since this deck is ultimately not very creature based it needs protection from opponents' swings.

Circle of Flame: "take one more step towards me and you'll be eating a Lightning Bolt".

Molten Disaster: remember when I said something about the spirit of fun? I lied, my dream is to kill the table with this while no one can do anything about it.

Pyroclasm: Storm's Wrath

Storm's Wrath: Stormier...Wrath?

Incite Rebellion: Selesnya, Saprolings, blown to smithereens.

Finally.

Firebrand Archer, Guttersnipe, Reckless Fireweaver, etc.: everything is Bolt face.

Dictate of the Twin Gods + Fire Servant: who needs mana multipliers when you can have damage multipliers!

Wildfire Eternal: honestly, I'm not sure how good this card would be at an actual table; it's very dependent on the other players' level of threat assessment. This deck might have too many X spells to really make it tick. But once in a while...free Volcanic Vision?

Red Elemental Blast: yes. I mean no. Wait...saying no to no means yes, right?

Magebane Armor: Torbran surviving all of those board wipes is really valuable.

Emergence Zone: there is so much stupid stuff you can do with this. Jaya's Immolating Inferno, Fanatic of Mogis, heck you could even flash a surprise blocker into play.

Thank you for reading this far! This is my second "focused" commander deck I have ever built, so feedback and suggestions are greatly appreciated.

I can't wait until COVID-19 can get under control, I've had a month-long itch to play this deck already. Until then, make sure you be like Torbran and BURN IT WITH FI-wash your hands!
