I really like how the one win condition is Ad Nauseam with Angel's Grace into Children of Korlis and Vizkopa Guildmage. Truly, this is a miserable deck.

I'm slightly surprised at the removal of Top and Expedition Map. I'm working on an azorius control/life gain deck with Grand Arbiter Augustin IV, Dragonlord Ojutai and deciding on a third possible commander.
What did you swap for those two??

Funny, I just put Top back in. Took out Map for a full Tutor that can get anything instead of just land

Missed that. And hmmm. I'll have to ponder tutors. Just trying to find a good creature digger that's not an artifact. Thought about citanul flute but 5 drop has me wary. Love your deck though. Helping me shape mine a bit more.

If you're gonna want to find something like that, I'd suggest either Ring of Three Wishes or Planar Portal? Both are excellent ways to dig with versatility. Insidious Dreams is also good.

leon_bulminot: If you're going to build a control deck (especially if it's not a combo deck) I would ignore the lifegain aspect. Unless you're specifically going to use it to win (i.e. Felidar Sovereign) then it will just slow the rest of your deck down. You're better off just adding in more card advantage.

Exactly. In this deck, the lifegain is only padding and a resource I can use to draw cards or kill stuff with. I completely ignore the traditional combos you see in many other Oloro decks, partially because they distract from MY endgame, and partially because people expect to see them, so hold back on killing my real threats in anticipation of threats I never play.

I see. Sounds like my superfriends proliferation deck. Snuck some infect in there but the end goal is actually a Vraska win. I'll have to continue checking out other control decks with Oloro at the head. Wondering if Augustin is a bad choice, on my part that is.

GAAIV is a really good way of painting a target on yourself from the get-go. Traditionally he plays as a really heavy tax/prison build and as such pulls a lot of hate. If you're happy to be the hated player at the table, then go for it. Otherwise I would go for somebody else.

If you want to play /, and don't want as much of a target painted on you, Gwafa Hazid, Profiteer might be worth trying. I've meant to build him, but have yet to do so.

I don't mind the hate. I'm pairing my control deck with a friends shadow deck that has a Weatherlight theme. But I'll dig up that guy. Trying to engineer mine with graveyard cycling while I use creatures that sacrifice themselves to counter spells or do other things but I'm trying to avoid black for the recursion factor.
Why aren't you running a Concerted Effort to drop flying and protections across the board?? I'm curious about that.

Well, I would rather kill creatures. I only run 3 other than Oloro

Can't believe I just didn't notice that. Kept mixing the artifacts in. Still, +1 for you and thanks for the ideas and tips. Might build yours as everyone by me keeps forgetting EDH is for fun.

right i have a boner for Ravages of War and i'm play testing In the Eye of Chaos... not sure what i could out right replace it with?

I liked In the Eye of Chaos and ran it myself, at one point, but found that it hurt me whenever I needed to counter something. I'd suggest Mana Web as your most economical card that messes with their mana, and not yours.

yess your lord and savior Mana Web has been on my mind thank you i'll play test asap

Why no Arid Mesa, Scalding Tarn, Misty Rainforest and Verdant Catacombs?

darleen: Behold the Beyond is really cool, but way past the top end of where I really want to be, especially with effects from stuff like Nether Void gumming up the works. I'll keep it in mind though
NarejED: That's the way I was leaning about Dark Petition, with really only the above Nether Void concern as a draw back. Regarding Top and Remora, I was hoping to fit in a bit more control elements, in the way of counterspells, and more tutors, so I had to make some hard cuts. It's really a matter of testing at this point, but remora was what a cut due to the cumulative upkeep and my taxing effects conflicting, as well as it's natural opposition to keeping mana up for said counterspells. Maybe I'll cut the Armageddon, Mana Web or something else in time, but this is what I felt made the most sense in this moment.
Top got the axe because although it's ridiculously good, it's also not great if the cards on the top of my library don't cooperate with the Top (pun intended). Again, it may be back, but since it doesn't do a lot on it's own, I figured I'd cut it for now to test other things.
Does that make any sense?
