We've all seen decks built around Sphere of Safety ("SoS"). The biggest problem with SoS is that, while the deck is entertaining, it is not very competitive against popular net decks. Many SoS decks are comprised of Blue/White ("UW"), which is too slow for fast aggressive decks and can cause problems late in the game. I've taken a standard SoS deck (shown above) and reworked the deck to improve on those problem areas.

++Adjusting the Enchantments++

The model I started with was a UW that used Arrest and Martial Law. I took those out, because leaving a creature on the board can cause problems later. For example. if your opponent has Guttersnipe or soulbond creatures like Wolfir Silverheart in play, you need those creatures removed entirely.

I liked the Security Blockade because it gave an additional creature to block/attack with. Also, the land prevents one point of damage per turn. This will slow your bleeding while you build your wall. Bonus!

Curse of the Bloody Tome is vital. It cuts the game time in half, and it is the best preventive defense in the format -- a Millstone without activation costs!

Oddly enough, I added green to bluster defenses and additional card draw. Cards like Abundant Growth and Ground Seal let the player draw a card on play, which is extremely useful since Enchantress's Presence or any effect like that is not available in the current format. In late game, this is a boon.

The land seen in this recipe is balanced to support the addition of green and can be slightly expensive; however, there is no substitution for good land!

++Now with more Balance!++

UW deck users will rely on Azorius Charm, but having green as an option gives Selesnya Charm availability, giving the player an instant with more options.

Having a turn two drop is critical against fast decks. Add a turn three Ethereal Armor or Security Blockade for extra aggressiveness, and you got yourself a game.

++Drop that SoS!++

By turn five you need to unleash the SoS. Put up your Sphere of Safety wall and let your Invisible Stalker and Curse of the Bloody Tome do it's job.

That also means that every turn your opponent drops a land, you need to drop an enchantment. Hence why I added the cheaper green "enchant and draw" over the more expensive white detain effects.

STATS

Speed: 4/5

Acceleration: 4/5

Balance: Very Defensive with Unblockable threats

Threat: 3/5 (Powerful stall mixed in with a slow kill)

Endurance: 4/5

Pros: In this format, dealing with multiple enchantments at once is hard to deal with. You can quickly set up your wall and and let the deck drive itself.

Cons: Maintaining a consistent defensive presence during the first 4 turns is a must. No late game finishers. Detention Sphere against you can be a thorn in your side.

Sideboard prepped against RDW, Bant Control, G/W Angel, and mill.
