Thanks! Any suggestions that you can see would make the deck better?

you should put an ajani in it....because then you can call it Ajani and the Soul Sisters

Ajani Goldmane or Ajani Vengeant would be the only ones that I would use and I'm not wanting to splash red for vengeant, and I don't think the 4 cmc would fit into the deck very well. I'd rather use the mana to bring out more creatures with lifelink or extort.

Serra Ascendant , Ajani's Pridemate and Ranger of Eos are usually stapes in decks like this. A one-of Sun Titan is brutal in the late game.

M14 has spoiled a card called Archangel of Thune that would be perfect for this build.

If you can afford it, Kitchen Finks is better than Royal Assassin.

I'm not sold on Vampire Nighthawk or Tithe Drinker as being good in Modern. I think it would be easier to go for green with Centaur Healer . Modern games usually end so fast that you can't count on gaining life through combat.

Proclamation of Rebirth is good against decks with lots of removal. Grand Abolisher is good against Jund and control.

Spellskite hoses any number of Modern strategies. It's the perfect sideboard card. You won't have a problem paying 2 life to do stuff with it. You can:

-Cause Vines of Vastwood to redirect from Glistener Elf to Spellskite.

-Respond to Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker and Deceiver Exarch going infinite by redirecting the token Exarch's enter the battlefield trigger to Spellskite, stopping their combo.

-Redirect burn spells/removal spells targeted at your best creature in play to Spellskite.

-Change the target of an aura spell from Slippery Bogle to Spellskite.

It's really just so, so good. If you want to play Modern at a high level, get yourself at least two.

I have Serra Ascendant and was already thinking of removing the Thrull Parasite for Ajani's Pridemate . Don't know how I missed Ranger of Eos . What would you suggest I switch for it?

I really like the synergy between Blind Obedience and Royal Assassin . But maybe running 4 of and 3 of is too many?

There are a lot of slower modern decks in my meta (tron, mono-black control, etc.), so I really don't have a problem with the Tithe Drinker and Vampire Nighthawk . I've been meaning to pick up some Spellskite but just keep forgetting or I never have the extra $24ish to pick up a playset.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I'll be working them into the deck soon.

Martyr of Sands for 7 + Vizkopa Guildmage 's second ability = lethal. Use it.

I like the idea behind Blind Obedience and Royal Assassin (I love how oldschool it is, kind of like him with Icy Manipulator ).

BUT Martyr of Sands gets a little weaker for every nonwhite card you put in your deck. You have your lands already. Vampire Nighthawk is also a good card, but the Martyr really shines when she puts you at 35-41 life on turn 2 or 3. Also good with her is Squadron Hawk , considering he puts 3 white cards in your hand.

I'm kinda trying to put together a few Orzhov-colored decks too (I just like the aesthetics of the colors). Trying to make something that's actually decent in Modern or Legacy even. I like Orzhov Charm for being unconditional removal (you can pay the life pretty easily), as well as recurring all of your 1-drops. You can even get a second use out of a Martyr for three mana.

Anyway good luck!

That makes sense. In the current deck state, you have a near-1 in 2 chance of revealing a white card from your hand. If you took out 3 Thrull Parasite and 1 Vampire Nighthawk for Vizkopa Guildmage , then the chance is bigger. Therefore, Martyr of Sands 4 will get you to about 30-35 life on turn 2.

These are all good suggestions. I can't wait till I have more time to work on this deck. Thrull Parasite is definitely out for Vizkopa Guildmage . I also really want to work Ranger of Eos and Orzhov Charm into the deck. Any thoughts on what to swap out?

Do you need both Path to Exile and Royal Assassin ? Also, Felidar Sovereign is a good inclusion.

May 26, 2013 6:26 a.m.

jlgadrow says... #13

I do tend to play against a lot of aggro in my meta, so a lot of removal isn't a bad thing. I don't know about the Felidar Sovereign . Its a solid win con, for sure, but not the way I'm looking for. Also if I was going to run him, I'd have to bring in some protection because of jund.

You know what this deck needs? Sanguine Bond .

May 26, 2013 6:21 p.m.

jlgadrow says... #15

Sanguine Bond is cool, but such a high cmc. I do like that you can pair it with Exquisite Blood for an infinite loop though. I just don't want to rely on it. I've been thinking about Suture Priest though.

HexproofHarry says... #16

I actually made a verson of this deck yesterday that had some Suture Priest s in it. I'll post it sometime soon. You could also use Blood Seeker but he's the dumbed down verson.

May 26, 2013 7:13 p.m.

Matsi883 says... #17

Yeah. Suture Priest is pretty much strictly better than Blood Seeker . I would take out 4 Soul Warden /Soul's Attendant for 4 Suture Priest because you have a lot of lifegain for when creatures enter the battlefield, and this adds lifeloss for your opponent.

Don't underestimate the difference in mana cost. 1 cmc vs. 2 cmc is a pretty important gap for a weenie deck. Also, you want plenty of the soul sister effects, but taking up eight or more slots in your deck is pretty hefty. I think something like six or seven would be plenty, myself. More than 8 or 9 and you might find yourself drawing them when you'd rather draw a Path to Exile or something.

jlgadrow says... #19

All very good points. There will come a time when I'll start really tweaking the creatures in the deck. I don't want to use Blood Seeker just because he doesn't add to the life gain, but may change my mind in time. I'm starting to think a 2 of each of Soul Warden , Soul's Attendant and Suture Priest may be the best bet.

Matsi883 says... #20

I like that. Also, Rest for the Weary is good lifegain. And with so many creatures, Celestial Mantle is amazing lifegain barring removal.

May 27, 2013 6:40 a.m.

jlgadrow says... #21

@ Matsi883, Celestial Mantle would be great if I was doing W/U and could put it on an Invisible Stalker or something, but with the 6 cmc and $5 price tag, I'd only run a 1 or 2 of and it would certainly make whatever creature I put it on a target, so I just don't think it would be worth it for this build.

May 27, 2013 8:11 a.m.

Matsi883 says... #22

Yeah. But Rest for the Weary is still good.

May 27, 2013 8:50 a.m.

jlgadrow says... #23

Yeah, but what would I swap out for it?

But it's designed to be an aggro deck. Taking out that many creatures just seems like a bad idea. Plus, both of those cards have been doing really well in play testing. I would probably be more likely to take out the Royal Assassin for it, just because he gets targeted so quickly and doesn't have lifegain.
