Sideboard

Maybeboard

A deck that I made for an extended tournament and then converted for modern. It is surprisingly consistent and can pull off turn 2, 3 or 4 wins about 50% of the time. Also, the intimidation of the combo often makes an opponent think twice about attacking so they often instead leave blockers. This can buy a bit of time as the deck lacks card advantage.

Out of 50 games against dummy opponent assuming at least 1 blocker and mulliganing when appropriate. The deck won; 6x(12%) turn 2, 13x(26%) turn 3, 13x turn 4, 9x(18%) turn 5, 9x greater than turn 5.

The deck

So the combos are:

Immolating Souleater + Fling/Soul's Fire/ Assault Strobe /Double Cleave

or Kiln Fiend + two instants/sorceries and Soul's Fire/ Assault Strobe /Double Cleave or fling if one of the other spells was a burn.

Apostle's Blessing and burn helps me get through blockers with the former acting as protection.

Simian Spirit Guide adds the capability for a turn 2 win. After quite a bit of playtesting, it seems to actually add more consistency to the combo although it means that I am now relying exclusively on the combo. Hence any ideas on an alternate win condition would be helpful.

I am currently working on the sideboard. Please share some suggestions, I think this has potential to be more awesome and funny. +1 if you like, Thanks.

For extended, take out illegal cards and replace with;4x Traitorous Blood 4x Ruinous Minotaur 2x Prodigal Pyromancer 1x Soul's Firerestx Mountain

Possible cards for a legacy build;4xSandstone NeedleLotus Petal Reckless Charge Wee Dragonauts

Possible New Cards:Nivix Cyclops

So the latest version has proved itself to be competent. I played FNM (modern) at the shop last night and lost 0-2 against b/u mill, won 2-1 to RDW, 2-0 vs B vamps and 2-0 vs B control. It also beat white weenie and infect in friendlies.

A large element of luck was involved in the good result (just like any combo deck), but the deck performed extremely well. The biggest threat the deck faced was spot removal (of which the mill deck had heaps of). The deck also had a surprising amount of midgame wins (turn 6-8ish) in which I was able to either ware down the opponent or get a lucky souleater/fiend through.

Hence I will be looking to at least sideboard some removal (if any exists) and perhaps think about mid/late game staying power.

Comments & suggestions are great thanks!
