Thanks mtuchler,
The Prodigal Pyromancer is common in "tenth edition" and "planar chaos" and is therefore legal in the pauper format (http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?multiverseid=205231). "all cards used must have been printed at the common rarity in a Magic Online set or product." - from the wizards website. For this reason things like Fireball and even Lotus Petal are pauper legal :-).
I think you may have missed that is it being played in an extended comp so nice things like Manamorphose are too old and Ponder and Preordain are on the banned list. I was toying with the idea of blue (or green for that matter) but the selection of common mana fixes just didnt cut it so I strived for speed and consistency in red.
Im currently toying with the idea of mainboarding some Arc Runner, Prodigal Pyromancer and Flame Slash. My meta has a tonne of white weenie decks so I think the pyromancers might be a good choice... What do you think?
The deck is mainly a bit of fun for the last extended comp at the shop before it changes to standard. I still want to be as competitive as possible though ;-) it has done fairly well in playtesting so far.

Just got home. Came 4th out of 12 I ended one guys 4 month winning streak lol. The deck pretty much won every game that it got the combo off in and I was able to chip away at a few of the other players.
Everyone enjoyed the deck and fun and laughs were had all round.

Not realy, it was kinda a coin flip for the most part. When I got the combo off, I usually won and otherwise I usually lost.
I did have a bit more trouble in one match in particular, the guy was playing white/blue (kind of a toned down caw-blade) running Puresteel Paladin, swords, Squadron Hawks and a few counters. Just lots of card advantage and counters pinned me down a bit.
The shop may be playing a modern comp once every few months, so I might re-visit this with the modern cards...

By the way, what's the thinking behind Thundering Tanadon ? It doesn't seem to add anything in particular to the deck.

A few things, metalcraft for Galvanic Blast, I hoped it would give me a little extra staying power (it didnt realy), and a lack of big or usefull creatures in the 3-4 cmc slot. It will be coming out as it proved a little useless.

I noticed the blast didn'tget metalcraft often. Perhaps swapping it for Burst Lightning would work? Then it just needs to be kicked, if it makes it to late game.

Maybe, I was enjoyed sideboarding in Flame Slash as it was usually directed at potential blockers anyway, it will probably be one of the two... In the modern version I will likely run Flame Jab or Surging Flame depending on how playtesting goes.

...I am also strongly considering Gitaxian Probe mainly so I can see if its safe to combo.

Could do worse, and card draw is never a bad option!

Okay so I have made a few major updates to the deck. The biggest one being the possible addition of Simian Spirit Guide (replacing Keldon Marauders ). This opens up the possibility of a turn 2 win lol. I will be giving this a playtest over the coming days and will try to determine if it is worth the possible drawback to consistency.
It also means that the deck will be relying more heavily on the combo and less heavily on the alternative of a beat-down deck, Im not sure if this is a good thing or not.
Suggestions and thoughts would be awesome. Thanks!

Looks like a fun Pauper deck. Going to get this a try.

Two Things:
1) In the Maybeboard, Prodigal Pyromancer is Uncommon.
2) Blue adds a lot to this kind of deck. You could use Gitaxian Probe, Artful Dodge, cantrips like Ponder, Preordain, Serum Visions, Manamorphose, mana accelerators like Desperate Ritual, Seething Song, and Pyretic Ritual. Finally, Grapeshot for the win. It should function like a Pyromancer's Ascension deck, but without the rare itself. Just win with a massive Kiln Fiend.
