My first serious deck. I want to build a competitive deck for standard tournaments, so your feedback is appreciated. I'm also somewhat new to sideboarding, so mine here is sloppy.
To avoid accusations of plagiarism, I'll say right now that this deck is inspired in part by a half-forgotten description of a deck that apparently won in a pro tour. I'm not sure how much of it is the same.
I said earlier that I'm fairly new to sideboarding, so I'll go through my thought process for this one. I have Peak Eruption there as an answer to red burn decks and especially to Chained to the Rocks. Mindsparker, I think, serves as a decent answer to blue and white decks, and Shiv's Embrace gives me more options for blocking flying damage while also giving me a way to pump my creatures. Smelt is just there because it seems like a decent choice. I wouldn't mind replacing that with something that fit better.
Spare the Red v2.0
I have replaced
Chandra's Phoenix
with
Akroan Crusader
and Shock,
Skullcrack
, and Lightning Strike have been cut for
Coordinated Assault
,
Titan's Strength
, and
Thunder Strike
. I also reduced the number of
Hammer of Purphoros
and Purphoros, God of the Forge by one each, which allowed me to add one more mountain and one more instant. The reason I see these changes as beneficial is because with Purphoros out, I can turn one mana into two tokens with
Coordinated Assault
and
Akroan Crusader
, which in turn equates to 4 burn with Purphoros.
Feedback is always appreciated.
